Well, it's official. After much speculation, Firefly has been cancelled.

Tim had the following to say, "We did get word tonight, Fox won't be ordering any new eps. That translates to 'cancelled.' We will finish shooting the ep now in production (I'm directing, in fact Joss came down to the set to break the bad news to cast and crew -- we wrapped early, but are back at it in the am), we'll finish post on all eps, and Fox says they're going to somehow air all eps."

Not suprised...Friday night tv is a wasteland anyway.

Firefly is cancelled?

Good.

That show did not deserve a life when Farscape had been cancelled.

As big of a Joss fan as I am, I'm not really upset over this. I watched the first episode and it wasn't my cup of tea, so I never bothered with catching any others.

Fuck! Am I the only one on the board who liked this show?

No, I enjoyed the show, but I also felt that one of the major problems of the show was the western motif. The western apects of the show were so intrusive that I was often left wondering why they were included.

I'm sad that the show has been cancelled so soon (Joss usually doesn't hit his stride for a show until the second season), but I must admit that I'm far from surprised. The only reason I'd given the show as much a chance as I had was because I'd enjoyed his shows in the past. Were I a t.v. viewer who wasn't a fan of Buffy, I wouldn't have watched more than one episode.

Now if they cancel John Doe, I'm gonna be pissed.

Had Firefly started on a smaller network where they could have gave some slack on the ratings, who knows.

John Doe...I was geeked for the show...till I heard about the Friday timeslot...never seen an episode

I have to say that I HATE Firefly, and am happy it's been cancelled, because again, I reiterate - an inferior show such as that does not deserve to be on the air when the beatiful gem that is Farscape has been cancelled by the Sci-Fi channel.

BTW, as an aside, I hear that Sci-Fi is going to air a Tremors tv show.

Tremors.

I don't care if you liked the movie - think about that.

Tremors the fucking series.

They cancel Farscape, and feed us some bullshit line about how it "wasn't experiencing enough audience growth", and they expect people to flock in droves to TREMORS THE FUCKING SERIES?!??!?!

Sci-Fi must be secretly run by Vince McMahon.

Anyway, about John Doe - it's a pretty good show, that could be a GREAT show, if they focused more on the meta-plot. They've got a nice little X-Files-esque mythology all ready and waiting for them, but instead they're having John fighting serial killers and solving mysteries every week. That's not bad, but that'll get old REAL quick.

But if they focused entirely on the larger plot one of the major selling points of the show would be lost: the mystery. Once he discovers who he is and what exactly it is that's happened to him, there's not much left to the show. They wouldn't even be able to call him John Doe anymore; recall that episode where they were trying to fool him into thinking he was Thomas and how annoying that got.

This I don't understand. What is this, the Gore Vidal philosophy, "It's not enough that I succeed, others must fail"? Yes, Farscape was an awesome show, and it really, really sucks that it got cancelled, but that has nothing to do with other skiffy shows that are on t.v. I'll never understand why people are happy when something others enjoy is ended.

True, there is something seriously wrong with that network.

Thats too bad, I throughly enjoyed the show when I had the chance to catch it. They should have moved it to Tuesdays. Primetime TV is shitty that day...

I actually liked the show too, but i knew it was going to be cancelled during it's first year as soon as the first show didn't get great ratings.

With the cost involved it would've had to get good ratings from the very start to last.

Ever since cancelling Sliders, Fox seems unwilling to give Sci Fi shows much of a shot if it doesn't take off first season.

Might not have been a bad idea for Tuesday...9 pm...maybe the Buffy crowd would have tuned in.

Um, what? *looks at the 2 longest threads on the front page of this folder*

Tuesday is the best night of prime-time TV.

8:00-9:00:

Fox: That 70s Show/Andy Richter

UPN: Buffy

9:00-10:00

Fox: 24

Well, OK, American Idol will be moving into the Fox 8pm slot, but still, 24 alone is enough to make Tuesday a must-stay-home night of the week. Plus, it's usually king of the 18-49 demo in that timeslot, so why would anyone want to move it in favor of Firefly?

Maybe they should have moved Firefly to Mondays in the old girls club slot or moved it to Wednesdays once BoP started its meltdown (I would've watched it). It couldn't have done worse than girls club (plus, it probably had broader appeal), and Fastlane isn't doing much better in the ratings.

Well Tuesday is a boring tv day to me.

Never liked "That 70s show" and "Buffy". And I never got into "24". Andy Richter is cool though...didn't even knew that came on tuesdays also.

I missed the first couple of eps of Andy this season, so I'm kinda pissed.

You should buy/rent the 24 season 1 DVD box set because it simply owns.

Firefly probably would've gotten worse ratings had it been on WB - probably Birds of Prey ratings, which still would have killed it off.

Seeing as the all-new, all-different Twilight Zone regularly does under 2, I could see Firefly possibly surviving there.

All the same, Fox should have realized that a "space western" just wouldn't fly. I'm not sad to see it go. Mind you, since I was a fan of Dark Angel, I may be a bit biased in that regard...

Firefly never intrested me... So I don't miss it

But I swear if they cancel fastlane, I'll be pissed...

I think I'll Kazaa a couple of episodes and see if I wish to finish after that.

Here's a little Firefly-related spoiler for that OTHER Joss show that begins with a "B", ends with a "Y", and has an "uff" in the middle.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

The guy that played the lead role in Firefly will end up on Buffy to finish out the series as a priest (I believe) that sympathizes with the First.

Pfft. I already have the whole Firefly series on my comp, and soon on CD.

Jewel = only reason to watch that show.

The hot blonde snaggletooth from Alaska?

No, the brunette from Are You Afraid of the Dark, Flash Foward, and Space Cases.
