Guest Flyboy Report post Posted December 14, 2002 Never great buddies as teammates, New Orleans running back Deuce McAllister and Miami counterpart Ricky Williams had no problems with each other – until this week. "Ricky's a good back," McAllister said of the Patrick Henry High alum. "I thank Ricky because he got us another first-round pick. But I was a little disappointed in one of his comments." Williams positioned for record-book run McAllister said he was upset over remarks made by Williams to ABC-TV during Monday night's game between the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears. Melissa Stark reported that Williams said he didn't care how many yards rushing he gets this season as long as it was more than McAllister gets. "He said that as long as his numbers are better than mine, then I guess everything is fine with him, regardless of how his team is doing," McAllister said. Williams leads the NFL with 1,500 yards and three games remaining, but when asked Wednesday if 2,000 was a magical milestone, he replied, "It doesn't mean anything. Magical right now is getting in the playoffs." The Saints traded Williams to Miami this spring and gave McAllister, their top pick in the 2001 draft, the starting job. "If Ricky had run that way while he was here, I think he'd still be here," McAllister said. "I'm just doing my job. I don't know why he'd have anything to say about it." I had to post this... for discussion purposes.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted December 14, 2002 New Orleans 9-4 Miami 8-5 Shut up Ricky what was Miami's record last year? What was the Saints? Hmm...one seems to be more valuable to their team than the other.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted December 14, 2002 Thank you, pinjockey! That's exactly what I bring up when people say Williams is better than McAllister. (IMHO, DEUCE~! > Ricky) Fuck you, Ricky... pompous ass.

Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted December 14, 2002 New Orleans 9-4 Miami 8-5 Shut up Ricky what was Miami's record last year? What was the Saints? Hmm...one seems to be more valuable to their team than the other. Both players are valuable for their respected teams. It was a good trade for both teams. Williams fits the Dolphins offense, and McCallister is better suited for the Saints passing offense.
Guest Rabbi_wilson13 Report post Posted December 14, 2002 Oh please, it's a one game difference. And maybe if we got the free free meal tickets of the AFC and NFC Norths to pump up the record some we'd be 9-4, too. Both backs are very good and very important to both their teams, with Ricky being more important to the Dolphins simply because they don't have the offensive weapons the Saints have and they're known for wearing down towards the end of the season. If I was starting a team I'd take either of them, because pictures of Ricky running through defenders and the snow in Buffalo or Deuce trampling over Kennedy in the Dirty game show that these guys are both players. Guest imajackoff? Report post Posted December 14, 2002 I think Ricky Williams is the superior back. All the crap he's gotten since being in the league, and this will be his 3rd 1000 yd. season. McAllister is not a scrub by any means, but if I had to pick one, Id pick Ricky.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2002 I have a certain theory, and that theory is this: It's all about the Ricky Williams.

Guest Flyboy Report post Posted December 14, 2002 i fucking hate ricky wiliams,he is so overrated. As do I, Y2BigJ... as do I. I'd rather take a back that is healthy then an injury prone one. Williams never wanted to be a NO in the first place. I say good riddance... a trade was made and it helped out both teams. I look at it like this: If you back can get 99 yds. against the #1 defense in the league (Tampa Bay) WHILE HE'S INJURED, then that in itself is a superior back than Williams. Knowing Ricky he wouldn't have played the game with a sprained ankle.

Guest DrTom Report post Posted December 14, 2002 I look at it like this: If you back can get 99 yds. against the #1 defense in the league (Tampa Bay)... Just so you know, Denver has the top-rated run defense in the NFL, giving up about twelve yeards fewer on the ground per week than Tampa. Tampa Bay is #1 overall because their passing defense is so crazy good, but Denver is the best against the run. Against Denver, Williams gained only 49 yards on 20 carries, but did score twice and help his team win an excellent game. McAllister hasn't played against Denver this year, so no direct comparison can be made. At this point in their careers, I think Williams is the better back. He seems in better shape this year, and looks to be hitting the hole quicker than before. He's also broken some long runs this year, which he was never known for in the past. If I were starting a team, I'd take Deuce because he's younger and has the potential to be better than Williams.

Had Fiedler stayed healthy, the Dolphins would likely have 1-2 more wins than they currently have, especially since it took Ray Lucas 3 weeks before he got into the groove. Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted December 14, 2002 My point, though, was this time last year the Saints were awful and had quit as a team the Dolphins went 11-5. So if the Dolphins win out they are the same as last year. Granted they are set up better for a playoff run this year, but until they win in Dec. I am not going to assume they will. The Saints on the other hand have gone from joke to contender by eliminating the headcase and giving Deuce the ball as the only major change. While Ricky may be more talented than Deuce the Saints are certainly better while one can only speculate whether the Dolphins are that improved or not because they always win in the first three months of the season. Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted December 15, 2002 The Dolphins won last week, which by my reckoning, is December And it wasn't Ricky's fault they lost to the Bills in Buffalo. But yeah, I get the point. The Dolphins *are* improved, and *are* set up better offensively for the playoffs than last year because of Ricky. Ricky is by far the best RB they've had since Csonka/Kiick in the 70's. If the Dolphins do worse than last year, barring a Ricky flame-out, it won't be Ricky's fault. Guest Rabbi_wilson13 Report post Posted December 15, 2002 Ricky ten times better as a back in Miami than he was in NO, anyway. He lost weight, he's hella-quicker and he's using Norv's counter as bread and butter now. And Ray Lucas lost us anywhere from two to three games on his own. If they had Jay and their wide-outs all year, they're in cruise control for the number one seed. Now, they're in a dog fight, which makes the league so much more interesting. And I apologize about the NFC North comment, because that was the Dolphin's NFC division as well. And not to knock the NFC Dirty South by any means, the AFC East is one of the toughest divisions in football top to bottom, and our AFC division was the West, another mega-tough division. Though the Dirty South rocks all. How cool is it that the Dirty swept the Saints, the Saints swept the Bucs and the Bucs swept the Dirty? That totally screws over people who like to say, "Well we beat Team A, and Team A beat you, so we must be able to beat you."
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 15, 2002 Problem with all this records debate. The Saints were just as good last year as they are this year. The Saints didn't lose last year because they weren't a good team, they just imploded and didn't care over the last four or five games. It's not as if the Saints suddenly became good this year. Ricky and Deuce are equally good and both are important to their team.
