FWA Seasons Beatings 2002

Last night the FWA presented their final show of the year. The main focus of the evening was a round robin tournament to crown a number one contender to the FWA Heavyweight title currently around the waist of the Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels.

The evening would turn out to have surprises, controversy on top of the top class wrestling action.

1. Jane Childs, ring announcer for the evening, introduced the tournament. The winners of the matches would earn 20 points for a pinfall or submission, 15 points for a countout or DQ, and 10 points each if a 20 time limit draw.

2. Doug Williams vs Jonny Storm was up first. The third

time these two have faced each other in a FWA ring. In

previous matches it had been Doug Williams who was victorious

but this time it would be Jonny's night. Jonny Storm 20

points.

3. The Old School were out next complaining about the

stipulation that could lead to Dean Ayass being beaten

for 5 minutes in the ring by Alex Shane if Flash Barker

were to lose tonight to Ulf Herman. Shane was soon out

humiliating the Old Schoolers once more to the utter

delight of the crowd. Ulf Herman soon joined him and

the crowd were soon looking forward to the hardcore

bout they would be seeing later that night.

4. Next up AJ Styles, former TNA X-Division Champion, took

on former FWA Champ Jody Fleisch. A thrilling contest

which saw a distinct attitude change in AJ Styles since

the last time he was in the UK. AJ Styles' edge just

got him the win in this one. AJ Styles 20 points.

5. In a 6 man tag match the Duke of Danger, his butler

Simmons and Old Schooler Mark Sloan took on Hade Vansen,

Chris Justice and Raj Ghosh. The Duke of Danger unveiled

his new maidservant Daisy. A masked man arrived on the

scene towards the end and kidnapped Daisy leading to

Simmons and the Duke to chase after them. Did anyone

notice a pair of familiar goggles around the mask

of this mysterious kidnapper? Then Birchill continued

his interfering ways and destroyed Justice, Ghosh and

Vansen (Sloan conveniently avoiding the big man). After

Birchill disappeared Sloan took the cheeky (monkey) win

for his team.

7. Jonny Storm faced Jody Fleisch in the next tournament

match. This one would end in controversy as a Phoenix

DDT from Fleisch onto Storm on the outside of the ring

lead to an apparent KO and a subsequent countout victory

for Fleisch. Fleisch did not want to win this way but

in the end had to take the 15 points. Jody Fleisch 15

points.

During the interval Storm was taken for a check up at the

local hospital. Fortunately he did not have to stay for

more than 30 minutes there. He suffered what is generally

known in this business as a stinger. He was back on his

feet and back at the venue by the end of the evening in

top form but unfortunately for him would have to stay

out of the remainder of the tournament.

Guest ring announcer Nikita introduced the next match.

8. All-England Champion Zebra Kid took on number one

contender James Tighe. The Zebra Kid retained his title

this time but Tighe is looking for revenge.

9. Doug Williams took on Jody Fleisch next in a rematch

from the King of England tournament final from Revival.

A fantastic contest that would see Williams reverse

the decision from Revival and beat Fleisch this time

round. Doug Williams 20 points.

10. Ulf Herman vs Flash Barker would indeed prove to

be a hardcore heavyweight match. A change of pace to

previous matches in the evening, this one would be

hard and heavy and see Barker losing blood to the

crowd's delight. Sloan took out referee Andy Coyne

with a chair. Referee Steve Lynskey arrived to count

the win for Herman after powerbombing Barker through

a table. Shane came to the ring with a steel chair

to get his 5 minutes with Ayass but seeing the chair in

his hand referee Andy Coyne reversed the decision

and awarded the match by DQ to Flash Barker. Barker

and Sloan will now face Shane and Herman for the

tag titles in February 8th at New Frontiers.

11. In the tournament final Doug Williams was set to

face AJ Styles. Whomever would win this match would

have enough points to win the tournament now that

Jonny Storm was no longer a factor. Jerry Lynn

arrived at ringside to declare that AJ Styles had

over-exaggerated Lynn's injury at his hands to the

FWA official to prevent Lynn getting a spot in the

tournament. Lynn asked FWA officials to give him

Jonny Storm's 20 points and put him into this final.

FWA official Elisar Cabrera agreed and the final

would be a three way dance. An awesome contest as

one would expect from these three men lead to a

controversial win as Jerry Lynn powerbombed Doug

Williams who looked to be hitting the chaos theory

onto AJ Styles at the same time as all three

hit the mat. Referee Steve Lynskey counted the

three count and awarded the match and the number

one contendership to Jerry Lynn who with Jonny

Storm's 20 points now had 40 points.

It should be noted that after the match Doug Williams

complained to FWA officials saying he had pinned AJ

Styles and should also get an additional 20 points.

Usually in these situations the referee's decision is

final but we shall wait to see what, if anything, at all will come of this.

sounds like another great show from the no.1 british fed. if the confusion at the end results in a three way between lynn, daniels & doug williams on the february show, it's all good with me. regaining the fwa title in a stellar match against lynn & daniels would do the world of good for williams' already rapidly escalating reputaion. good stuff.

Yep - I've been to most big events over the past few years here in England.

Uprising (in October) and Seasons Beatings were the best cards for a long time - AJ Styles is out of this world while Jerry Lynn was great as well.

Add to that Jody Fleisch, Doug Williams, and Johnny Storm and everything clicks together.

They let the guys go out there and wrestle, and basically it works very well indeed.

The innovative stuff you see is unbelievable. I mean, at Seasons Beatings one of the moves that stands out was Aj Styles reversing Fleisch's 720 Phoenix DDT into a Northern Lights Suplex w/Bridge. Stunning.

AJ Styles and Lynn have said on more than one occasion that they want FWA Talent in NWA:TNA, most notably Williams who AJ Styles called 'the best mat wrestler in the world' and Meltzer rates as the best wrestler outside of WWE.

Highly Recommended.

Yep, I was at Season's Beatings and it was a great event. A shame they didn't allow James Tighe to get more offence though, as I think he's a great potential talent.

Doug Williams is pure talent.

Cheers,

Andy

I went to the show aswell, and it was very very good indeed. I should have a small review and some photos up by the end of today. Im a huge AJ styles fan, so seeing him go one on one with jody fleisch was amazing.

If anyone wants to check out some FWA stuff, then i believe that SST have just lost their exclusive tape deal with them. So in the future, yuo may be able to get tapes more reliably.

More later,

Rumour has it that they have yes. The guy must be gutted, becuase not only did he make moeny from being the only person able to sell FWA styff, but he must have made a killing on his stalls at the FWA shows.

At the end of the day though, its his own fault for bad service. Loads of people defend him and say hes a good trader, but there is no way you can survive if your taking weeks to deliver your tapes and other traders are taking days.

Ive never bought from him before, which you might tink gives me no right to comment. But im proof, that the rumours and bad press hes has given himslef deters people from buying from him. If he had a better reputatiuon then i would have bought from him on many an occasion.

Im also hoping that the new trader can offer better value for money. Say what you will, but £8 for a video is absurd if you ask me. Fair enough, he had covers, but i rather not have a cover, and only pay £5
