Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted December 19, 2002 This goes to the people who, like me and probably everyone else, listen to music on their computers as they spend way too much time on them, or have their portable CD players on, or are just sitting at home taking in perhaps their favorite album... and sing along, of course. We all sing along to songs we like, and it's no use denying it. Anyways... What are some songs that, during the course of your singing along, you literally lose yourself and allow it to swallow you whole in the process? Not like you're performing it, like you ARE what the singer is trying to put forth with his voice. For me, it's the entire OK Computer album for a detached and pained feeling, and a lot of Korn songs for a really paranoid mindset. If I want to feel loving and become totally exuberant, it's you-know-who or some Abba. If I want to just fly around a little, it's later Beatles work, specifically "Free as a Bird." For blinding rage, it's "Natural Born Killers." Then again, this could all just be me, as I REALLY get into my stuff when I'm listening to it, doing so much as the Thom Yorke seizure-dancing at times. Guest caboose Report post Posted December 19, 2002 Good Topic. I lose myself in Radiohead's 'Paranoid Android' it practically describes the way I feel a lot of the time. 'Be Quiet & Drive' by The Deftones, because the lyrics I relate to completely. Muse's 'Showbiz' because I have often ended up following other people instead of being myself. (I recommend everyone to download this track. I don't know how big Muse are in America.)
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted December 19, 2002 I'm an absolutely wretched singer, but I've got a decent growl. The only non-death vocals I can do worth a damn is a somewhat decent impersonation of the guy from Clutch. I always end up getting sucked into one of three bands: Floyd/Sabbath for listening, and Nasum if I feel like testin' out the ol' pipes. I never attempt to sing along with Floyd or anything melodic though, it'd just ruin it.

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted December 19, 2002 Gimme old-school Metallica or some Shadows Fall, and I'm on another plane of existence.
Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted December 19, 2002 Rabbit Run, The Way I Am, NBK as stated before, Bother, other shit. I usually just sing or scream or growl along with whatever while I'm driving.
Guest EricMM Report post Posted December 19, 2002 I concur. Only I replace Lateralus with Undertow. I'd have to say it's easiest to lose myself in the Epics. Pushit, Disposition/Reflection/Triad, Flood... In fact, whenever I listen to Ticks and Leeches at night, I often drop off during the lull point. (about 3:30-5:50) and then at six minutes I wake up again

Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted December 20, 2002 Acoustic music really gets me, as does like country rock stuff. I just get all delerious listening to it.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted December 20, 2002 I can get lost in almost any treble charger song, even the ones that aren't 'deep'. If I'm listening to them on my discman in a public place, I have to catch myself before I start singing out loud and embarrassing myself.
Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted December 20, 2002 i only listen to music that draws me into it. Anything that doesnt draw you in, sucks, period.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted December 20, 2002 I've got to second (or third) the mentions of Lateralus. Just a beautifully put together cd. I can't just listen to one track off of it. Whenever I put it in, I'm listening to the whole thing.

Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted December 21, 2002 Last night I learned the true meaning of Trance. I don't think I've ever felt so free and, well, high. Absolutely incredible. Who needs drugs? I was tripping naturally. At the peak of "Exhale" by System F, I was in a frenzy, in my own little world. My legs stopped hurting from all of the dancing, my arms got renewed and enhanced strength after all the glowsticking, it was just absolutely mind-blowing. And by the way, ACOSTA = GOD. Guest Respect The 'Taker Report post Posted December 22, 2002 Guns N' Roses completely transport me into a different dimension, mentally. Nothing can possibly compare to the rush GNR can give me, or the emotions the music can deliver. Nothing, to me, even comes close. Illusion - Guns N' Fuckin' Roses! Guest spiny norman Report post Posted December 22, 2002 John Lennon really gets to me. If I'm in a conversation, and Jealous Guy comes on, I will stop paying attention and sometimes tell the person I'm speaking with to be quiet. Same goes for Across The Universe. Imagine. Woman. Watching The Wheels. etc etc. Bowie's Space Oddity, and Life On Mars really hook me in too, both making me verge on tears. And Madonna. It's like Kotzenjunge said for ABBA and Kylie, it just makes me kind of upbeat.

Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted December 22, 2002 Worry not, CP. I'm paying for my supposed sins of raving, as I can hardly move right now I'm so sore. Seriously, just walking is a labor. Raising my arms above a certain level sends lightning bolts through my entire body. But boy, was it worth it.

Violator is probably the single best album in my collection for sinking into...though "Cop Killer" would come pretty close.

Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted December 23, 2002 Actually, I couldn't hear anything very well for a couple of hours afterward. Only bruises I had were where I held the glowsticks in my fingers. Swelled too.
