OK. So the Golden Globe nominations are out...

Recommended Posts

Ladies and Gentlemen...EMINEM has a shot at a Golden Globe with "Lose Yourself." Although it's a great song...how did a lot of other songs get passed up for THIS song? Or were there not enough good songs out there? Granted, Eminem did about everything in that movie, but is there a song up there from a movie you saw that should have been nominated?

No, in fact not only should "Lose Yourself" win the Globe, it should take the Oscar as well. I remmember reading a review of the song that I agree with, for the first time Eminem doesn't sound cocky arrogant or like a wise-ass, he sounds hungry almost desperate. If 8 Mile was a rap version of Rocky, then Lose Yourself is Gonna Fly Now. I'm no big fan of Eminem, but I absolutely love this song. And just remmember, it could be worse...."Hero" could've been nominated

Eminem absoluty should take the Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe for Lose Yourself which has become the Song of the year on not just Rap, but even Rock radio. It has transcended to all realms of music.

They'll give it to some artsy song, probably U2

Eminem is on rock radio? where is this at?

Well if that's the case then I'm glad that I rarely listen to the radio.

And actually, "Rabbit Run" is the best song on the soundtrack in my eyes, by far...pure stream-of-consciousness intensity...but yeah. "Lose Yourself" is the best single he's cut since "The Way I Am," and it should definitely win, though I doubt it will.

U2's a fair choice, but unfortunately "The Hands That Built America" is one of their lamest efforts, and that's coming from a huge U2 fan.

Hands that Built... is completely lost on the new U2 CD. They put it in the middle around all these techno like songs and it comes off as pretty boring

Well if that's the case then I'm glad that I rarely listen to the radio.

I heard him on the light rock mix station here in Houston. Although I think that was only once, he's not on the regular playlist.

I don't think he's transcended anything. He's getting forced on the public, just like most of the popular acts. Lose Yourself is a catchy song, I know that because at it's peak, the local radio station that plays MTV's playlist was playing it 11 times a day. You couldn't not listen to that song if you wanted to.

If he hadn't of toned down the fag comments on his last album, he wouldn't have gotten all of the positive press he got going into the movie (and I know he dosen't hate gay people, he just said those things to appeal to teenagers).

Eminem needs to be careful about becoming accepted too much by the mainstrean. When he was on the cover of Entertainment Weekly promoting the movie, there were quotes from people like Stephen King talking about how they were fans of his. He'll lose his credibility with his audience if mainstream america isn't afraid of him anymore.

Eminem is the mainstream now. Yet he is still miserable, pissed off, takes too many happy pills and constantly look to take it out on somebody or on himself just because.

In other words, still an artist.

Eminem will be forgotten within a year. He has toned his act down and he's now misunderstood instead of angry to match his movie. He will start releasing more pop fluff and fans will stop caring.

Eminem is as fake as Christina Aguilereleriala.

I live in Houston I know what you mean.  Yeah 94.5 The Buzz plays "Lose Yourself" sometimes, but not as much as 104 KRBE.

I hate 104.

I remember reading an article that said that whatever the most played song on 104 is at a given time is getting played 13 times a day. That's more than once every two hours.

BTW, for everyone in Houston. The lite rock station I was talking about was Mix 96.5, it was on their battle of the bands segmant a 9'o'clock. That must be where they try out different music to see if the audience will accept it because they just played The Donnas during that segment. I wish I had a dollar for every time I turned on Mix 96 and they were playing Creed or Matchbox 20.

Radio in Houston really sucks. I've been to Denver and Boston. Both cities had at least 4 or 5 stations I could listen to for 20 min. without wanting to turn the station. Here, I can't listen to any station for more than one or two songs before they play someone I don't like and have to turn it.

Agreed MDH. I'm in a truck for my job so I'm stuck with the radio to keep me awake (REAL boring job). I usually just stick it on 610 AM. I'd rather listen to Rome, Dan Patrick and the local guys than 94.5, 96.5, or 104. Mainstream radio in Houston sucks.

Mainstream stations here suck as well (Seattle) except for 99.9.

I heard a rock remix of "Cleanin' Out My Closet" on Boston rock station WBCN 104.1...actually DAMN GOOD too, as it pretty much made the song into a complete hardcore song...

**downloads the remix**

Anyways, um, yeah...

Why all the "Hero" bashing? I liked it for what it was, a stupid song by members of 2 stupid flavor-of-the-month bands for a cheesy movie (Spider-Man is great, but still wicked cheesy, mind you). Could've been about 3 minutes longer, SHOULD HAVE BEEN 3 MINUTES LONGER, but it's decent for its length.

"Lose Yourself" is a great song, and Eminem WILL NOT be forgotten by next year, Satanico. Or are you forgetting that people said Marilyn Manson would be forgotten after Antichrist Superstar?

Manson is pretty much forgotten about other than from his actual fans. He may still be on the radar of the mainstream, but he's on the edge. Besides Manson while always trying new things hasn't ever really changed himself to chase off his fans.

Eminem has turned into "I'm not really angry, I'm just misunderstood" guy. He didn't get popular for that and it'll chase away "fans".

"Hero" may be the worst song I've heard all year. It epitomizes absolutely everything I hate in music.

That said, radio is also supalame.

I hate when people say that..........hello...Drama Queen!

Oh please......it's not even an offensive or annoying song. Don't give me that "epitomy of all things wrong" crap. There's much worse things out there......Like Avril Latrine.

sorry, but what was 'Hero'?

The song from Spider-Man.

Jerry Lynn and some other guy sung it.

EDIT: Avril Lavigne isn't the worst shit on the radio either.

Of course it is. It's generic, generic, generic rock, with absolutely nothing that distinguishes itself in any way. Of course it's the epitome of what's wrong with a lot of modern music: reliance on the same old/same old formula that doesn't innovate or interest in any way. It just sounds tired.

I honestly don't put it very far from Avril Lavigne on the blah spectrum.

But Flyboy's right. Jerry Lynn and the guy who looks like one of the Critters from the movie Critters deserve our respect for all their hard work throughout time.

I know what you mean Edwin.

As I listen to it... it sounds as if he doesn't even take a breath.

That's good shit.
