Final Fantasy X-2

*bear in mind I am about 39 hours through FFX, haven't beaten it, plz no spoilage*

But has anyone read about this? I decided to do a little research. As far as I can tell the game focuses on Yuna this time, who goes back to her roots, and takes Rikku with her. Since the Al Bhed were all about the tight leathery stuff in FFX the new look makes sense, but it's also definitely fan service. I don't personally care, since I don't think it hurts the game at all.

The graphics look similar, hopefully they will be less jerky and have more detailed fingers and such. But really, FFX is one of the best looking games I've seen.

From what I've read of the story it seems to work with the plot, so no problems there.

Are there any thoughts? All the screenshots I've seen contain Yuna, Rikku, and Lulu in a party. I dunno if this is going to be the first Final Fantasy with a prodominately female cast (why not...) but it could just be design.

I'm looking forward to it :)

Yeah i agree about Yuna's new look not hurting the game one bit. Also I've seen a few offical artist conceptions around and it seems that it will be a mainly felmale cast, it looks like the sword weilder will be female as well.

Apparenly there will be an X-3 game as well, this time mainly featuring Rikku.

Has anyone got any more information about this game?

A more iffy element could be the supposed "platform elements." In other square games, (Xenogears, Vagrant Story) the platform elements were NOT something I looked forward to. However, I can't exactly tell what part of the game they're supposed to be in. If they're in the battle, and you don't actually have to jump on them, merely selecting them, then it can be ok. The battle is supposed to be more active than it was for FFX, whether that means ATB is back or not I'm not sure. But we will have to see right?

Supposedly the Overdrive, Over-Kill, and Sphere Grids (and probably spheres in general) will go away. I'm sure they'll find some other sort of Limit Break, even if it's just Final Fantasy 6's. I'm glad I don't have to kill every enemy correctly to level better. I didn't like the sphere system because it was so undefined. In other final fantasys I could tell when someone needed more or less leveling, because they had a little numher next to their name. In FFX I just had to try to keep everyone in every battle (which was tedious in and of itself).

FFX-2 also seems to be far more teched out with Yuna packing double heat. This can only improve the game, since I don't think anyone likes dinky staffs :)

As Final Fantasy Guru of the Smarks (I and my brother have beaten every FF except IX, which I am in the process of), I will say that this time around, Yuna is done with the summoning and such. This time, with machina obviously unforbidden again, she uses them to go off on her own little quest. Right now, the details are sketchy. More will be released as time progresses...

Well with..oops better put in

SPOILERS

Anyway, with the Al Behd apparently becoming part of society again following the defeat of Sin, it's ok to use machina again. Plus, with the aeons being freed at the end of FFX, I don't see how you could "summon" anything.

SPOILERS END

Anyway, yeah with Yuna in her new Al Behd threads it looks pretty sweet. Hopefully they use a better voice sample whenever she says "Yes". It always sounded like a 45 being played at 72. Anyway, it apparently follows Yuna on a quest (I'm assuming to find someone they lost at the end of FFX). However, since society has splintered off into several factions who want more or less Al Behd influence on society, she is being searched for by the other factions.

Plus, it's not Lulu. Lulu at the end of FFX International (or whatever that Japan only version was called) show that Lulu is pregnant. It's someone else who has yet to be named.

Anyway, all this is just a synopsis of everything I've been able to glean off several different websites, so this is all pretty much conjecture at this point. I was able to see a trailer Square put up at a Japanese game con., but since it was all in Japanese all I could do was sit and watch it and go "Ooohh, pretty pictures!"

BTW IGN has posted an article on the first hands on demo of FF X-2 here . Sounds pretty good with people able to change jobs DURING a battle, complete with different animations. Also, the new female character is named Paine. The article also includes some movies, but with my dial up I'm not going to check them out right now. Anyone who does let me know how they look and I'll take a peek at any real good ones.

For anyone who is interested here are some quaility screen shots right here at gamespot.

I have found more information about the game that may be welcome news to some.

Many enhancements are being made to the game, which sources at Square are quick to point out is a new adventure, not merely a rehash of Final Fantasy X. Gameplay will be changed by a number of new options: first and foremost is the addition of jumping and climbing in the game environments. While FFX-2 is not suddenly metamorphosing into an action game, enhanced interaction with the levels will allow for more emphasis on the game's locales and secret areas. It's a welcome change. Moreover, the game has an "Active Mode" in the battles, although it's still unclear what that means -- whether it's a return to the ATB system used from Final Fantasy IV-IX or something altogether new is unknown.

Given the quality of the title it descends from, and the rich world of Spira poised on a new beginning after the defeat of Sin, there is little doubt that Final Fantasy X-2 will join its predecessor as one of the top PS2 titles. For now, gaze at the screens that Square's released while we wait patiently for March, when the game debuts in Japan

Hopefully they won't change the good old formula too much, but Sqaure have always been known to make great innovations in FF's past. But the idea of jumping and climbing does intrige me.

Yeah but I hope they just didn't throw those elements in just for the sake of change. I've read somewhere (maybe GameInformer) that the jumping has no penalty for falls (ie no jumping over bottomless pits or anything like that). I suppose that means they can come up with some impressive backgrounds and battle scenarios (I'd like a battle on a cloud covered mountaintop or some lava pit battle maybe?).
