There isn't much info out right now, I figured I'd let you guys know.

I don't even know what to say. I love the Clash, but I obviously didn't know him personally nor had I read into his life much. Still, this is a major blow and marks the death of an integral part of one of the greatest bands ever formed. Rest in peace.

R.I.P Joe Strummer, I'll always have my Clash to listen to remind me of how great you were.

The Clash brought punk into the mainstream while incorporating insightful lyrics looking to make a change in society. I never got into them that much because of my age, but from what I've heard and the bands they influenced greatly - they were one of the best.

RIP

The Clash were the best band of the 80s and one of my favorites of all time. RIP Joe Strummer.

Like that article said, they're set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year. I guess no brief reunion on two or three songs, a la Talking Heads. Gah...this fucking sucks.

You probably should. Definitely one of the top five albums ever released, in my humble opinion.

Didn't Joey Ramone die just before the Hall of Fame thing too? I was already prepared to pay crazy amounts of money to see The Clash live one last time.

I'm just shocked. I just found out and my jaw dropped.

I guess there goes the reunion at the Rock Hall induction.

RIP Joe.

Wow.

I just heard about this and I am shocked to say the least.

So now Run DMC and the Clash have met a loss...

RIP Joey Strummer.

Man, that's sad. I was listening to "Lost In The Supermarket" when I stumbled onto this thread, oddly enough.

What a blow. RIP, Joe Strummer.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a HUGE fan of The Clash. From the first time I heard "London Calling", I was hooked. The Clash, moreso Joe Strummer, have had a huge impact on my life musically. They are true legends in the music industry, and the greatest Punk band of all-time, and Strummer was a major part of their successes.

Within the last year, I got into Strummer's solo stuff with the Mescalaros, and it blew me away. I think it's better than anything The Clash ever did, with the exception of London Calling.

Rest in peace Joe, you are truly missed. You impacted millions of people across the globe during your time. You Clash rocked our city, and you truly made the globe your go-go. Thank you Joe Strummer, thank you.

The Clash Best Band Ever, or at least my favourite band ever.

RIP Joe Strummer.

It has been announced that he died of a "massive heart attack".

Earlier in the week when I found this out it was such a shock to me that I couldn't even really comment on it until now. I mean he was only 50, that's younger than my dad. Not to mention I always knew The Clash as (and now that I've listened to their self-titled album and London Calling can affirm as) unquestionably the most talented and "greatest" punk band. Then add in his newer material with the Mescalaros (which I haven't even heard), including that they were recording (or planning at least, can't remember for sure) a new album... this is a huge loss. Rest in peace Joe.
