FUCK VH1.

 

They need to realize that balancing themselves (and quite badly I might add) between music for teenagers and music for adults DOESN'T WORK. Add this to their burgeoning tendency to consider themselves an artsy network (see the 100 Best EVERYTHING shows they run every week), and they're fast becoming one of my least favorite networks.

 

Besides, who the hell puts Kylie at #31??????

For those who have VH1 Classics, watch it while it may not be great it blows any music network out of the water(besides maybe Much Music). Even though all they played yesterday was Beach Boys which isn't that bad of a thing just tiresome after a while. Good Good Good Good Vibrations.

Why the hell is "Hands Clean" number 40? The only time I heard was during 2 straight weeks in February and that's all. It should be number 90 or 140 or something.

 

I'm not suprised about "Soak Up The Sun" as everytime I flip VH1 during my usual channel surfing, THAT song is always played. It's annoying but it makes sense.

 

But, I am a little bit, well not little but REALLY irritated with VH1. Their programs are starting to become repetive with their Behind The Music's and those damn 100 Greatest Lists.

 

However, that's not what irks me the most. It's the fact that their bascially playing the same videos that MTV plays. That goes totally against their original target audience (which are the older 20's to 40's crowd) and is as bad as MTV playing more crappy shows than videos.

 

I STILL don't understand VH1's new direction as of late. The original reasoning behind VH1 was to play the softer, gentler, music for the older crowd. They even made a promo 1 YEAR AGO promising that they would not play rap, metal, nor teen pop. Yet, they're playing those genres today! What caused these changes? Does anyone know?

 

I hope VH1 goes back to playing gentler, softer music like they're supposed to do. I do not need a MTV 3.

VH1! is only good for nostaliga flashbacks, it should never become another Ja-Rule shrill channel.

 

If only VH1! would show more Charotte Church, then I would be happy.

Eh, VH1's undergoing the same metamorphosis that MTV experienced - phase out the music, bring in the programs and repeat ad nauseum.

 

The comparison's easy:

 

MTV = Real World, Road Rules

VH1 = Behind the Music, Top ___ List

 

I guess VH1 gets a slight consolation since their programs are still music-related, but it still can't be denied that VH1 is a far cry from what it used to be.

 

And, on a total sidenote, the fact that the Vanessa Carlton song isn't in the top ten is really puzzling, considering that I have yet to go one week this year without hearing it on the radio or seeing the video.

VH1 had The Godfather one which is even more puzziling to me, then when TNN had it. I mean, it's one of the greatest movies of all time, but what in the hell does it have to do with Yuppie Music?

Does VH1 make new Behind the Music episodes. The last one I remember was Aerosmith.

They make new Behind the Music episodes somewhat sporadically; the Matchbox 20 one was made not too long ago. The problem that they've run into is that they've pretty much run out of interesting artists who are willing to give indepth interviews about their trials and tribulations.

 

What caused these changes? Does anyone know?

 

I was under the impression that both stations were owned by the same company and pressure from stockholders was the motivation for making the two stations as alike as possible. Mtv had always outperformed VH1, so the changing of format was an effort to bring better ratings to the network. I wonder if it only alienated the previous audience (yes, yes, what audience?).
