Best Music Vid Package?

Recommended Posts

Guest TheZsaszHorsemen
Yuna just gracing us with your presance isn't enough you have to contribute. The video packages usually build up feuds. If you had watched wrestling as long as we have you'd know that. The best vidoe packages get you psyched to see these matches.

Now now. Give her a break. She's gotten enough flak for things as is. I don't think any amount of time watching wrestling can teach you the art of appreciating a video package (and I've only been watching since Jan 99, although I have VCDs of some WCW/NWA PPVs.) I mean, some are snazzier than others. That pretty much describes it, doesn't it?

Truth be told, I liked the Shawn/HHH video package, but it didn't get me psyched to see anything. I was still bracing myself for a terrible match from The Crippled Couple.

To say it failed is kinda harsh, no?

I was referring to how the packages are used, not appreciating them. That comes with experience.

Thanks for sorta defending me, Jobber. (That sounds insulting....)

Another cool vid was the King of the Ring '02 intro. Almost everyone and their dog's fleas knew Brocky was gonna win, BUT, it was still kinda cool.

D'oh, I know most vids build up a feud or add to it. But, for instance, the Desire vid. What feud did that contribue to?

The Kid Rock WWE Desire video was used for the McMahon/Flair feud. It was supposed to show what proud history the WWE had, how much of a poison the nWo was, and how Flair wanted McMahon to think about what he created before he destroyed it

The killer thing about this is the NWO version of the same vid, with Kid Rock singing about "how much I love you" while Nash and Hall squash guys and point at each other and throw toothpicks at the camera and so on. It goes on a bit and then where you get the Collage of Champions you get the top talent of the time, both face and heel, staring slack-jaw beyond the camera while Cole makes noises about the NWO's arrival.

And the last shot? A portrait of Vince McMahon Sr is digitally spraypainted.

Now, if that doesn't get the point across, I don't know what does.

Wel, it sorta doesn't help when a drunk who alledgedly can't drink drinks before the big show and the leader uses the other two as a stepping stone.

I agree. Although, I think if the crowds had booed Hogan at WX8, then he would've remained in the nWo and stayed heel.

At first I thought you meant Paul W(e)ight there.

I still maintain Hall would have lasted longer if he hadn't been repeatedly flattened onto the beer-soaked canvas and bathed in fresh alcoholic product.

Also, Hogan had an interview with WWE.com where he predicted that he would someday turn face and bring back the old gimmick. He imagined that months down the line "Hollywood Hogan will be begging for forgiveness to those he wronged and return in the red and yellow" or something like that.

He then came out dressed like Big Bird a few short weeks later.

Scott Keith used to call WCW's cycle "NWO HyperBooking." Vince was HyperBooking even faster than Hogan's deluded mind could.

That's not the point though. McMahon knew what he was getting into, and Hall said he was taking medicine that made it so that he couldn't drink without getting very sick. Hall was Hall. Some things don't change.

Giving Hall beer-baths did absolutely nothing to help the man. I mean, the guy is a single father with two kids at home. He's a recovering alcoholic, which he admitted, and taking meds. So the WWE's decision to bathe him in beer or put him in a feud with SC at all still baffles me to this day....and probably will continue to confuse me until someone can LOGICALLY explain it.

Sure, he's the one who started it again, but I think if someone (not saying who, but their name may begin with "Steph") had been slightly more considerate and not booked Hall around a guy who's gimmick is drinking beer and spraying it on his opponents, he wouldn't have given in so quickly.

The company knew what they were getting into, sure. Look at all the subtle insider jokes in their stuff the first few nights. However, someone in Creative either wasn't thinking or doesn't know how hard it is to fight addiction, particularly the bottle.

"Maybe get a couple of autographs..heck, we might even get to drink some beer with the boys...." Scott at No Way Out

"Heh, not you!" Lawler

That was kinda funny. Especially when both Hogan and Nash were shaking their heads and Hall is like "just one?" with this playful smile. That was kinda cute.

Why do we agree on so many things, Jobber? Again, I completely agree with you. He could've feuded with someone else....I don't know who, but anyone would've been better than SC and Bradshaw.

Actually, I like the backstage bit better where they give Austin a six pack, and guess who presents it? =b

Austin: You heard I like to drink beer?

Hall: We hear you like to drink A LOT of beer.

The "trapped in the ice chest" promo did it again, too. I think they knew what they were doing, but were being awfully inconsiderate. Fingers can probably be quite clearly pointed at Stephanie. She was booking X8 up herself, judging by who was the focus of the main event.

EDIT: I say "quite clearly" too much. So I deleted one.

To answer the eariler posed question on the first page, the "Control" video was for Survivor Series last year, not Invasion.

I wasn't comparing the two, for the record. I was saying that using that particular aspect of a person is stupid to base an argument on.

You know, if WWE ever released a DVD set with alot of the better music videos/packages, I'd definitely buy it. I know they probably won't, but it'd be nice to have since I like a well done video like that.

Somedbody talked earlier about the Cactus video from No Way Out 2000. I always loved the video that they did on TV before that show showing clips of the other cell matches, then clips of the HHH-Cactus feud. The video is on the Foley DVD when he is talking about that match.

My question is what is the name of the music they used for the first part of that video? I'd love to download it.

Definitely the package at the start of Invasion. The clips of both FDR and Patton were nice touches.

The two packages with at the 99 Rumble, with Austin-McMahon and Rock-Mankind were both done faboulously.

And finally a relatively unknown package that was at the start of the 1998 KOTR. Great use of Freddi Blassie as narrator and the music kicked ass too.

Don't take this the wrong way but it's directed to everyone who asks for what music plays in the background of video packages. Why do you want it? I mean what good is it without the video package itself which is what it is providing emotion for. It's just elevator music, can't be that interesting to listen to....

Aside from the ones mentioned already, I LOVED the one for WMx8 this year, with the guys in the 4 'main events' talking about what Wrestlemania meant to them.

Something that always gets me pumped is right after the video ends, and then you hear "AND NOW...WWE [insert PPV name here, said DRAMATICALLY~!]"

I loved the "Always" package for Survivor Series 2002. That got me pretty hyped, as did the Wrestlemania X7 video.

I also loved the package they did for Bret and Shawn for Survivor Series 97.

Actually this is not elevator type music. It's right in the begining of the package, it lasts for only about 30 seconds or so. I think they've also used it for a few of Undertaker's video packages. Somebody will know what I'm talking about.

Austin and Rock vid. package for Wrestlemania X-7.I was so pissed that I couldn't order it.But my friend bought it on VHS when it came out and what a great match it was.

The one for this year's Survivor Series was pretty good too.The song so made that vid. package.

Thank God there are others out there that see the injustice of the Scott Hall/Steve Austin beer feud.

After Hall was released everyone was like "Hall's a drunk! Hall's a drunk! Austin rules! Austin rules!" But good grief, Hall was made into Austin's bitch, was embarrassed repeatedly with beer baths (which Austin had not used in awhile BTW), and then was jobbed out to Austin after Austin complained that he was "drunk." This is the same guy that beats his wife, yet, he's complaining about a drunk, after he gleefully participated in an angle that had him SOAKING HIM IN BEER!!!!!!

That's like blowing smoke inot someone's mouth who is trying to go cold turkey. But since it was Hall, it was okay, now let it had been Eddie Guerrerro.....

It shouldn't have made a difference. Hall was "on" a medication that should have made him violently ill if he drank alcohol. Apparently he was either lying or coudn't be bothered to use it.

To get back on topic:

My favorite video in 2002 was the history video to "Lonely Road of Faith". Beautifully done and the clips went with the music perfectly.
