So I'm watching the July 8, 2002 Raw...

...and I'm watching the nWo interview in the ring at this time. Let me take it from Keith's rant (in case you forgot which one I'm talking about) so I don't have to explain what I'm watching:

The nWo come out to liven things up by TALKING. Shawn bores the shit out of everyone by recounting the detailed history of the Clique as though anyone actually gives a shit anymore about stuff that happened backstage 6 years ago, and in fact some astute fan in the front row screams “GET TO THE POINT!” 5 minutes into the interview. Obviously he knows how I feel watching these shows sometimes. It’s like, okay Shawn, you and the other guys are friends, wink wink nudge nudge. Wrestling is fake, I understand that, GET TO THE POINT. Good call, anonymous fan, you have potential. At any rate, Shawn thinks HHH has become a pussy (“You come out and arch your back…” Ooooh, such biting social commentary, he should write for the New Yorker) and gives HHH an ultimatum – join at the PPV or be raped by Bradshaw in the locker room. Okay, I made up that second choice, but it would be a lot more interesting than what we’ve been hearing so far. Nash offers doom and gloom for Booker later tonight, promising to use him as a stepping stone to send a signal to HHH. Man, isn’t it great to have these nWo guys around, making everyone look so good and being totally selfless? X-Pac and Big Show stand around in the background looking stupid. X-Pac is such a fucking idiot if he doesn’t realize that Nash & Michaels are completely playing him for a fool by having him do all the work while they come out looking like superstars while doing nothing. I mean, I’m no fan of the guy, but he’s the one carrying the whole group while these two preening morons hog all the spotlight for themselves and their “insider” comments. Anyway, the actual POINT of this incredibly boring interview is that tonight will feature a 10-man tag, with Kevin Nash coming out of injury-induced retirement to team with the Vanilla Midgets and face The Dudleyz, Booker T, Goldust and a partner of their choosing. Okay, first of all, wasn’t the point of the split so that we didn’t have to see guys working twice in the same show? I mean, it’s supposed to be opening up all these slots for the new talent, not necessitating building entire shows around the same 5 guys. Second, they made a pretty major point of Bubba & Spike refusing to be bullied into teaming with Booker & Goldust against the nWo, and Nash basically just comes out and says “You guys are teaming up because I say so.”, and that’s that. The message here? “All these guys are midcarders, and Shawn and I are the REAL stars.” Do you believe in karma, Kev? Because I do. Ask Shawn about it.

Lovely, eh? Anyways, let me quote Kevin Nash's last words before that match.

AND I QUOTE.

"...Hunter, what I do to Booker tonight...I'm gunna do to you."

Rumors of Nash vs. HHH @ Wrestlemania this year, right?

Nash has already laid out the pyschology for their match. The winner of the match, will obviously trip over the other guy and tear their quad. It's all a work and this is simply the greatest showcase of buildup/pyschology/foreshadowing ever!

.....

.....

.....

I'm kidding.

Yeah..I know.

The point I'm making is how ironic it is that Nash didn't powerbomb the shit out of Booker (which was suppose to happen), but he weakly tripped over him and tore his quad.

Yay!! Someone else noticed the slashyness of the Kliq!!!

Hmmmmmmm.....I must disagree here. WWE, in a sign of genius, played HBK as the mouthpiece, because he "couldn't wrestle". That's what made his Summerslam match so EMOTIONAL~!. (WWE....did that? Nah, couldn't be....)

A lot of peeps mentioned that X-Pac doesn't have strong mic skills, although he is hella-hot. Okay, I added that one, but still....you get the idea. And we all know how terrible Big Show is on the mic (makes ya wish you were deaf). That's why Nash and HBK come off as the "stars"....they're the spokespeople.

A thought oddly just came to me: Why didn't they have Billy Kidman join nWo? They hardly let Big Show talk, so Kidman would've been safe in that rergard...just let his skills do the talkin'. In any event (JRism~!), Kidman/X-Pac would have made a better pairing than the team of Big Show and X-Pac. (Inside joke in there....)

laughs hysterically at thought of Triple H and Kevin Nash rolling around on the ring clutching at their quads while Earl Hebner looks on rolling his eyes and Jim Ross screams at ringside "BY GOD WHAT PHYSICAL INTENSITY!"

I still can't believe Nash tore his quad for being in the ring for less than 5 seconds.

I was gone all summer working at a camp, so I had my pops record wrestling for me. I watched Raw the following Saturday, and saw Nash fall like that. I thought it was just an injury angle. Then I went online and saw that he really did injure it, and I thought it was the funniest thing in the world. Even though injuries aren't funny, this one is just classic.

Since I was gone all summer, I didn't have much access to the internet. What was the whole plan with Nash/HHH? And what was the plan for him during that match? And what was the internets reaction to this whole thing?

Thanks

If the plan was Nash vs HHH, then I'm really glad it didn't happen. Because there's really more history between HBK and HHH, and that made for a more emotional match. Anytime something even touched his back, HBK sold like he was dying, and the crowd were marking for the simplest of moves....that match was incredible. Rock vs Hogan...... HHH vs HBK.....if nothing else, those two matches show that WWE hasn't gone COMPLETELY insane....

Not to mention the fact that HHH/Nash might have been the worst WWE match of the year.

And then he kipped up. Thus, no-selling the entire match.

Yeah, it was great to see Hogan and HHH putting over those young up-and-comers.

Very much agreed, my friend.

I know its cruel to LAUGH at people in pain, but FUCKING HELL - Nash spends all this time off preparing for his triumpant return to the squared circle and BOOM, 5 seconds in we have a quad tear.

Oh god, this one will stay with Smarks for eternity, i swear by it.

...on another note, what Nash SHOULD of said was 'What happend to you Hunter, IS GONNA HAPPEN TO ME! WOHOO! HELLO FREE PAYCHECKS FOR THE NEXT 12 MONTHS!"

Way to go Kev, love your style.

So....what? The crowd was 100% behind HBK....either that, or I'm delusional.

Who cares about putting young guys over? Okay, I do, but....these matches had nothing to do with putting a guy over or whatever. Rock/Hogan was about legends....Hogan a legend from his day, and Rock a legend now. We all can argue the legend status, but that's not the point.

HBK/HHH was about history as well. The history between these two friends..... if you want to argue the greatness of the match, then just compare it to what Nash vs HHH MIGHT'VE been.

1. You were talking about how well HBK was selling. He no-sold the entire match. You don't understand the connection between those comments? Are you handicapped in some way that I'm not aware of?

2. Think about how great it could have been if Hogan could have passed the torch to someone like Lesnar, or RVD. That would have been a smart business move in the long-term. They used Rock/Hogan to sell tickets, nothing more.

3. I'm not arguing the merits of the match, that's an individual opinion. But again, HHH refuses to job to ANYONE but his cripple buddy. And I'm supposed to be glad because he was going to job to a less talented cripple?

I understand the connections. But in a lot of matches, the face in peril makes some sort of comeback. Get their asses kicked for most of the match, then when the crowd gets behind them, they make a comeback.....usually.

On a side note, what is with HHH's obsession with no-selling HBK's superkick? I've noticed this....anytime HBK "revs up the band" in the corner, and the crowd gets behind the kick....HHH almost always grabs the leg and stops the move. That's about the only awkward moment I can think of during their match at Summerslam. Although, perhaps the move is best used for a surprise move.... *shrug*

The Rock/Hogan matchup was inevitable since Hogan made the comeback with the nWo. It was supposed to be Hogan playing the heel and Rock being the big face....but crowd just REFUSED to boo Hogan, which was kinda funny.

I doubt Hogan could handle a match with RVD...it'd be like Hogan vs any of the cruiserweights. It'd be really horrible to watch, but that's just my opinion.

Just what is the 'torch' anyway? Is it the passing of "time" from an old legend to the next? IF that's the case, then I think both Hogan and HBK are passing of bits and pieces of their torch. Hogan partially passed the torch to Rock....the crowd was behind him, but he still did the job to Rock. And I also think Hogan partially passed the torch to Brocky. As for HBK? Hmmmm....I think he's partially passing his torch off to guys like RVD, Jericho, and PERHAPS Jeff.

I don't know about HHH's refusal to job, and thus, I can't really comment. All I know is what I see on TV. There's no proven facts that HHH refuses to job to anyone.....it's all just 'net rumors.

If I may veer off-topic here.......perhaps WWE and HHH caters to the net? All the rumors about him refusing to do jobs cause us to hate him....thus....heel heat! So much that we wish him off our TV, injured, dead, whatever. I'd compare it to the heels of "back then".

Oh they make comebacks. But they don't do it in ways that totally disrupt the psychology of the match. That made all the work HHH had put into destroying HBK's back look worthless. HBK used to be a lot better than that shit.

I know what it was supposed to be. I ordered the PPV. Let's get something straight. YOU don't lecture ME here, I've forgotten more about this then you (apparantly) know.

I was using RVD as an example of a top-face who could use the rub that a clean win over Hogan could bring. Who know RVD was so over that he might have gotten a 50-50 with Hogan. he outpopped Rock and Austin.

If you don't know what I mean when I say "passing the torch" then go to www.DDTWrestling.com and post there. This board is way over your head. Hogan passing the torch to Rock meant nothing since Rock was already the ace of the WWE. A win over Hogan helps no one but Ticket sales for one PPV. HBK has passed the torch to NO ONE. He lost to RVD by DQ. Who does that help?

Did I miss something? Absolutely NONE of my posts have been lectures. As for my question of passing the torch....I was just ASKING. I hear everyone talk about it all the time, although I doubt they know what it means. But I think I summed it up nicely....the passing of "time" from one legend to the next.

It's not from one legend to the next. It's from a star in one generation to a star of comparable role in the next generation. If HBK was "passing the torch" to RVD, he would have jobbed to him. But he wasn't, he was holding on to the Clique family title.

Oh and we do know HHH is a backstage politician. He's admitted that he gets to be in production meetings and the like. We also have heard an almost infinite number of stories about HHH's wheelings and dealings. There's only so many times you can write it off as fiction. Plus, he's over-the-hill, he can't cut a promo, he sucks in the ring, why else would he be getting such a push byut for screw Daddy's Little Girl. (Which she admitted.)

Sooooo, if all of us at the boards wrote Edge and Christian slash, does that make them gay? Nope....besides that, Edge is married and I believe Christian is dating.

I barely watch his matches, so I'd agree with you on that point. As for cutting a promo? Hmmmm....he's okay in that regard.

Perhaps. The difference being that this stuff is written by reliable sources, not 16 year old female perverts.

We're not ALL 16 yr olds, ya know. That's just me. My friend is 13, who writes slash and makes damn good banners, by the way. She's made almost all the banners I've had in my sig, including the one I have now. There's adults writing slash..which is obvious in some of the stories.
