Guest Ace309 Report post Posted December 27, 2002 I used to work at the Rite Aid down the block. I worked there for like... a year and a half, and ended up leaving on bad terms because the manager was firing people, not replacing them on the schedule, and accusing me of skimming off the top of the safe whenever a few bucks were missing when I came in in the morning (Gee, could that be the fault of THE GUY WHO WORKED THE NIGHT BEFORE?! HMM?!). Anyways, I was walking over to Rite Aid to get shaving cream and batteries (MP3 player for Christmas! w00t!) and as I was about to enter the store, I see the manager and her assistant manager walking and waddling, respectively, out of the store. The enormous assistant manager, whose ass is too fat for her to sit in most normal chairs, shouts, "MA'AM, DO YOU WANT TO PAY FOR THOSE TEST STRIPS YOU TOOK?!" For those who don't know, diabetic test strips are ridiculously expensive and are therefore often shoplifted, both by people who need them and can't afford them and by people who plan to resell them. Since this woman promptly sprinted over to a Land Rover, I assume it was the latter. As she was making her way over to her SUV, I debated sprinting after her and tackling her, but decided against it since I'm big enough to kill her and would probably injure her somehow, leading to lots of unwanted shit for me. Unfortunately, the way she was parked made it impossible for me to get a license number, so I was absolutely no help. So how about you folks? Tackle the woman, or go buy your batteries uninhibited? Guest Incandenza Report post Posted December 27, 2002 Leave them be. Unless I can physically assault the person without fear of litigation, I want no part of it.
Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted December 27, 2002 Depends where they're stealing from. Sears, by all means. Anywhere else, and I now have the legal right to attempt to kill someone in the name of citizen's arrest. Well, I probably don't, but that's not gonna stop me from beating the shit out of someone. I miss violence...
Guest Choken One Report post Posted December 27, 2002 It's Fucking Diabetic Strips! Have some Heart. I steal Hearing Aid Batteries all the time.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted December 27, 2002 You do know the story of Spider-Man, DON'T YOU?! With that said... leave it alone. My uncle steals all the time. Hell, that's how I have most of my PC games. And DVDs. And school supplies. And clothes.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2002 I'd let it go, if only because I'm lazy. Even if my dad had some office job relating to the place, like he does with Sears, I'd let it go anyway, because I'm totally indifferent.

Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted December 27, 2002 Due to your circumstances Ace, letting the woman leave was the right thing to do. If I see someone stealing something I won't say anything. I use to be guilty of stealing expensive appliances and what not when I was growing up because I felt that I was getting ripped off with the insane amount of money being asked for. But I stopped that once I got out of high school and now I just sit back and watch. My question is this: What if you see someone steal another person's wallet and the victim is unaware of it? Do you blow the whistle and say something?
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted December 27, 2002 What if you see someone steal another person's wallet and the victim is unaware of it? Do you blow the whistle and say something? Tell the person. That's a different situation. But, I wouldn't fuck with someone who was SIX FUCKING TEN, so you don't have to worry about that Sass.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted December 27, 2002 Yeah, it's all about circmanstances. I'd Notify the man whom was stoled from about it so he can Cancel his cards before the thief uses them but i won't put myself out for Legal bullshit.
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted December 27, 2002 Tell the person. That's a different situation. But, I wouldn't fuck with someone who was SIX FUCKING TEN, so you don't have to worry about that Sass. When I did use to shoplift/steal/"borrow" things from and I did actually see someone notice me commiting the act, I would shoot them a dirty look and then quietly walk away. It was a method that helped save my ass many times since I was quite auspicious by my appearance. One time, a shopper did in fact blow the whistle on me but by the time anything could be done about it, I was out the door and driving away. Of course I never did go back there which is something that the smart thieves like myself do when we've been spotted. If I did someone steal another person's wallet I would blow let the man/woman know immediately what happened and if necessary, help them retrieve their wallet back. Just being a good samaritan. Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted December 27, 2002 I think I would..uh..steal some stuff and run out the door yelling "Wait for me mom!" ... On second thought I'd run after the car and try to get the plate number... ... On third thought I'd probably just say "oh look, that woman just stole something, someone should do something.." Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted December 28, 2002 They're diabetic strips. Since my cousin's father (only related through marriage) is a diabetic, and one of my favorite teachers of all-time is a diabetic, I'd let it go.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted December 28, 2002 tackle her. just for fun and take the strips and sell them yourself.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted December 28, 2002 With a mother who is diabetic, I'd let it go if it was an older person who likely just needed the things. As for the wallet, I'd let the person know and do something with buggies to block the door to buy some time if the victim went to retrieve a manager or a guard. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 28, 2002 I'd let it go and never give it a second thought. It's not like stopping them is worth it. Some stores tell their security guards to not worry about a shoplifter if the merchandise is worth less than $500. I suppose the potential lawsuits just aren't worth going after small time shoplifters. So if the stores don't care then why should i put myself in harms way.
