I've heard that the new Degrassi is pretty popular with people here, espeically the Canadian folks. I'm assuming you're all into it because of the first Degrassi Junior High from days gone by. How do you feel it stacks up against the original series from the 80s?

Personally, I have to say that I like the old series much more than the new one. It's just too awkward to see them dealing with problems involving the Internet and stuff. Sequels are seldom better, and this holds true in the case of Degrassi. Besides, all the problems, and more, were all handled in the first five years, and it feels like certain roles are being re-filled the second time around. And the show being filmed gave it a cool documentary that sets up a stark contrast against Saved By The Bell and its videotape.

So in conclusion, the old Degrassi was much better than the new one. And the theme song was miles ahead of the new one.

The old Degrassi Junior High/Degrassi High is classic stuff. It was a show that actually dealt with issues affecting teens in a realistic matter (AIDS, teen pregnancy, suicide, drugs, etc). And on top of all this, entertaining storylines.

Was I the only person who thought Stephanie Kaye was more attractive in her normal clothes than her slut clothes?

Degrassi Junior High/Degrassi High, by a longshot. Degrassi: TNG is probably around the level of Kids of Degrassi Street, although my memories of that show are very fuzzy at best.

In defence of Degrassi: TNG, even if it does rehash several of the episodes from Junior High/High, it's a better show for it.

was this a Canadian only show?

Degrassi: The Next Generation is, but Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High were shown on PBS back in the day.

oh that explains alot as I never paid much attention to the channel + the fact I was military brat living outside the USA most of my life so I never seen this program. I did see an advertisment for the show on Nick but never now what time slot it is on.

It's on Noggin, a digital cable channel that Nick is part owner of.

Has anyone ever seen this other version of Degrassi where the cast members go out to the streets and talk to teens about sexual issues like AIDs and stuff. We had to go through those things in Sex Ed, they were so crappy and boring.

Degrassi Junior High was actually shown here in Britain. It was ok, but seeing as I never saw TNG, I'll have to vote c).

Those are known as the Degrassi Talks series, I think we've the entire set at my school library.

Oh, and I haven't been keeping track of Degrassi: TNG, but I just saw a promo for this week's show and apparently Spike and Snake are engaged? What the fuck?

Well, during the TNG telemovie they seemed to retcon in some previous romantic tension between Snake and Spike - which must've happened offscreen or something.

Anyways, I heard that Joey Jeremiah (minus mullet and fedora) is back on the show, so I'd expect some sort of love triangle and seeing the (non-jailbird) Zit Remedy EXPLODE!! That or Snake's brother turns out to be straight and it was all just a phase. [/sarcasm]

I had that video shown in Career and Personal Planning a year ago. They talk about moodswings and talking to the opposite sex and stuff right?

I hear there is a Degrassi telefilm coming out sometime soon featuring the wedding of Snake and Spike. Whoo!

I hope they manage to work Shane in there somehow... maybe he runs in and chairs Snake or something...

Do they show any of the other Degrassi series on American digital cable? I've seen the new one on Noggin, and its awful and ohsogay. I want to see more of this and laugh, at least if its anything like The New Generation (what an awful title, by the way). That kid who plays Spinner is history's worst actor and that one Spanish or black kid is so ugly (I'm superficial). And that dorko with the glasses needs a sock in the mush!
