Some interesting choices here. I was floored by his pick for #1.

10. The Quiet American

9. All or Nothing

8. Spirited Away

7. Invincible

6. Y Tu Mama Tambien

5. 13 Conversations About One Thing

4. Far From Heaven

3. Adaptation

2. City Of God

And now, for Ebert's pick as the best movie of 2002:

1. Minority Report

Here is a link to the list on his site.

Didn't Ebert give The Ring shitty reviews? Interesting how it stayed in theaters for about 2 months while most other movies this year lasted a month, eh?

I haven't watched any of those movies...how about everyone else?

Neither have I. I've never really been a movie buff.

So what. Ebert's list has nothing to do with how a movie did at the box office.

I just find it funny that Ebert seems to really hate a few really good movies that do good box office numbers.

And I'll never like Ebert because he dissed TMNT once.

all I've seen this year is Powerpuff Girls, MIIB, and The Ring, and The Ring is probably on my top 20 ever.

Didn't see a one.

Well, I've seen one movie on that list, and there's no way in hell I'd put it on a top ten of 2002... Minority Report...

I haven't seen any of them either, but I do plan on seeing Minority Report.

Roger Ebert is an old woman...I stopped paying attention to his opinions long ago

Minority Report best movie of the year?  Someone's smokin' something.  The last 20 minutes of that movie copped out what could have been an AWESOME ending.

Dames

The preceding 100 minutes weren't so hot either, but yea, the extra 20 minute ending was what really killed it for me.

I just saw Minority Report on DVD, I really liked it a lot of swerves. If you guys don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it, at least PM me, cuz I'm curious at what specifically you didn't like about it. I was totally in to it.

I was shocked too, I am secure currently that Minority Report might be the best Sci-Fi movie of season but it's not best movie of 2002.

Hey, he's just one guy, with his own opinions. This list is just the ten movies he liked most this year. It's not like some Grand Official Movie Fact List or something. Calm down.

I still maintain that Siskel was the inferior critic. At least Ebert has some semblance of taste.

I'm surprised that Adaptation wasn't number one.

I haven't seen any of those movies, but I heard most of them were good.

I am basically forced to read him. He does the reviews for my paper, and I am just interested to see someone's opinion a movie. Besides, I usually agree with him, so, whatever.

i've only seen 2 of them. 'minority report' was decent, but way overrated; 'catch me if you can' was a thousand times better. 'y tu mama tambien' was, for my money, the best movie i saw this year outside 'gangs of new york'.

i'd like to see '13 conversations', 'spirited away' and 'far from heaven', & i really really want to see 'adaptation'.

Of all the movies on his list, the ones I have seen are Adaption, Minority Report, 13 Conversations About One Thing and Y Tu Mama Tambien.

I liked all 4, but only Adaptation made it on my top 10.

From that list I've only seen Y Tu Mama Tambien and Minority Report. Y Tu Mama deserves to be on everybody's Top 10 list.

Of those ten I've seen Minority Report, Far From Heaven, Y Tu Mama Tambien, 13 Conversations, and Spirited Away. The others either haven't opened here yet. Except Invincible and All or Nothing which may have been here for a week and I didn't notice.

Minority Reort being named best movie isn't a suprise because I saw Ebert and Roeper review it on their tv show this summer. The acted like it was the greatest thing they had ever seen. One of them actually said "It justifies your existence as a critic to know they still make movies this good."

Yeah the ending would have been a lot better if Max Von Sydow had made the other choice.

Ebert is the only critic I listen to at all. I think he's usually right on. I haven't seen anything on this list yet but I'm more likely to now.

whoo!

ebert's definitely one of the better critics out there, i think. i don't always agree with his taste ('waking life', 'mulholland drive' & 'ghost world' all made his top 10 for 2001, but 'monster's ball' was number 1), but his reviews are pretty damn vivid & entertaining. he's got a good writing style.

His review of Star Trek: Nemesis was hilarious. I enjoyed the film, but I still agreed with a lot of what he said about it. Classic stuff.

Good to see Frailty getting some respect from Ebert.

What did he say about Nemesis CHUD? I remember reading about it and thinking he was a complete dumbass that doesn't know as much as he thinks he does about the Trek franchise but I can't remember exactly what he said.
