I don't think anyone would get on Rob's case if he used SOME sort of compromise. I mean, I believe in god, I believe that he created the universe. I believe in an Afterlife I am not Atheist.

But Rob can't get his thick skull around the fact that Mankind descended from Apes. He says it's MY religion, that I have been brainwashed by creationists. That there is no truth to the dinosaurs, to the scientific theory of how old the earth is, to ANY of it. He insists that the Noah flood actually covered the entire earth instead of it being "merely" a legend designed to teach a religious lesson THUS put into religious scripture. I mean there was a massive flood back in the day, I recall it had something to do with the medeterannian sea (although it might have been another one) but it certainly didn't cover the entire earth. It's all fine and good and helpful to have faith. But Rob won't accept faith, he needs Blind Faith. And that is just so willfully ignorant, it just rubs me the COMPLETELY wrong way.

I'm sorry if my posts ruined your enjoyment of threads SpiderPoet, because I realize that I've been one of the main dickheads fucking with RJS about this. But come on Rob! I'm a Christian just like you, but even I can see that the earth is more than 6000 years old? How do you account for the cavemen, or the times when there were no cavemen, or the fossils? Faith and Fact DON'T have to be contradictory.

You say that you are a christian, but do you have blind faith? That is, you know, what you need to be a christian. I haven't seen Jesus, but I believe and know in my heart that he exisit. This is something that I learned being an early christian. "Why did this happen?", or "When was this earth created?" Leave those petty questions up for God, to argue with a fellow christian about something soooo crazy is wrong. God doesn't want his children fighting, as you wouldn't want yours. come on, can we settle this over a pint?

You know, I like you tons better when you talk to me in a civil manor. Anyhow about comprimise. I won't comprimise my beliefs. I have questioned my beliefs and continue to when I see something that seems to be off, like a scientist would. I have come to the conclusion that what I believe and what I post here is true. I believe the flood did happen, I believe the Grand Canyon is proof of it, because of the way it eroded, and the direction the erosion took place. Let me find the info on that and I will post it later. Also I think our perception on cavemen is incorrect. I also believe that the method we use to date fossils (Carbon Dating) is false as well. Infact I believe that the way fossils are judged on the geoligical column and they use the geoligical column to in turn date the fossils is circular reasoning. And finally evolution is a theory almost 150 years old. No theory that speaks of ages like billions and billions of years can be proven in 150. It may be correct, and I never said things don't evolve but speaking from a "how life started" standpoint, I find it hard to believe that we originated from dirt. Anyhow like i've always said, until they prove evolution to be true, which they can't, then I will continue to believe what I believe. Thanks again ericMM for being civil.

Theory is a guess that you hope might be true.

WRONG. That is not how "theory" is defined in science. You make even the dictionary definition sound akin to playing darts in the dark, which isn't the case, either. There is a large difference between Noah Webster's definition of "theory" and how science defines a "theory." I suggest you stop misrepresenting the former and bone up on the latter. As it is now, you're arguing from ignorance, which is probably why so many people get irritated with you so easily.

Rob, it is possible to present good options for whatever it is you are arguing if you go looking for it. While I'm by no means inviting a reuturn of the discussion, I went looking for evidence of the flood and presented some things that were at least fairly interesting in the thread it happened in.

Unfortunately, there seems to be an either/or mentality on both sides, and it just isn't that simple. If all elements of evolution were hard fact, it wouldn't be argued as much it is. Most Christians are perfectly rational people in the end, save for the few oddballs that tend to be the most vocal.

There are misunderstood or unknown elements to both sides of this argument. For the man from ape theory there's the missing, undiscovered link. That prevents it from being hard fact. For the flood argument, there's the unexplained nature of a global catastrophe. Wow. There are gaps that need to be filled in, in so many things.

Rob, as I've said before: We are ambassadors for our King. If we must speak, there are better things than this simple debate. There's a universe of things to talk about that bring more glory to God than bringing up flaws in everyone's line of thinking. Flaws generated ultimately by what we don't know, and what none of us are likely to ever uncover.

At the end of the day, I take much more pleasure in telling people that the God of the Universe calls me friend. Apes and floods and everything else be damned, My father, My Savior, my Hope and Counsel, my King, calls me "Friend." Calls me "Brother." Calls me, "Son." That is vastly more important than silly arguments elsewhere. This Earth isn't important enough to be THAT concerned with. Telling it's inhabitants about our Father's courts is.

There. I've said my peace. I'm done with it now.

Well, lest I be beaten by cupid's schlong, here's a reply.

First of all Rob, you're willfully ignorant and you make me sick.

Second of all, I'm not going to constantly have this discussion where you sit there like a lump expecting me to go gather facts that are readily available to anyone. If you're interested, even if marginally, put down the Christian Science Monitor and do some fuckin' research.

Also, just because it's bugs the shit out of me, here's an article regarding C-14 dating. It's simple math and chemistry Rob, put into retard form so that it's easier to absorb.

Carbon 14

That's the simplest rundown of the subject I've ever seen. And before you bring up the goddamn seal, that's an instance when something is innacurate. That can happen, that's why people actually repeat experiments.

"Among other factors to consider is that all the ancient astronomers from 2000 years ago recorded that Sirius was a red star—today it is a white dwarf star. Since today’s textbooks in astronomy state that one hundred thousand years are required for a star to "evolve" from a red giant to a white dwarf"

From this I think that certain scientific beliefs are wrong. It has been recorded that these people saw a red giant, now it is a white dwarf. Obviously since we cannot quite figure out how to judge the age of stars or how they change then one would also consider that we cannot judge "time" either.

Maybe human perception of what red is changed over the years. It had to adapt for today.

You forget one thing. Jesus has a cool straggly beard. Much like Lenin's goatee, Jesus' hippy goatee redeems him of much wrong-doing.

Beards = redemption.

Rat's Milk, more like, the cross, His blood, His finished work on the cross= redemption.

He said hoes and money ALSO equal redemption. Never said those were the only things.

Although even if they were, I'd still be screwed.
