The Owen Hart Tribute Tonight

Recommended Posts

Guest Lord of The Curry

I saw this one coming a mile away, as it was the one big Raw moment they hadn't shown yet, so I was kinda prepared to see it coming. The end result was something I really didn't anticipate.

I started getting misty, but that usually happens when I think about Owen, read books about him etc...

Then the mistiness continued until it was a full-blown cry. I sat there, watching the TV bawling my ass off, especially to the comments made by Jeff Jarrett and Foley.

After I was finished I started to wonder if I'm a bad person or a hypocrite. I have 100% hated anything and everything that the WWE did in the wake of the Owen incident, including the Raw itself. But then, here I am 3 years later, bawling like a baby. I'd like to think that I'm human and that the situation just affected me.

Anybody else cry? Sniffle? Get angry?

I held my own, but when they were showing the 10 bell and you got a shot of Mark Henry crying, it almost got me there.

but I have the show on tape, and any time I pop that in I always tear up

I read the Broken Harts book written by Martha Hart and I must say, I gained some things after reading it

1) More hatred of Vince Macmahon

2) More respect for Chris Jericho. The guy didn't know Owen that well but a few days after the funeral sent Martha a cheque for $3000, saying he wanted the kids to have it.

3) More respect for The Rock. According to backstage reports that Martha states in the book The Rock tried to rush the ring to help Owen but was held back in fear that the fans might riot or some shit.

I don't see why everyone gets all up in arms over the tribute show. I don't think it was done as a publicity stunt or anything. I think that it was genuine. Of course knowing what kind of person Vince is I could be wrong.

I'll be willing to give Vince the benefit of the doubt over Owen Hart and that it was a genuine attempt on his part to give Owen the best tribute he could.

If Vince had made people go out there so he could get their reactions on camera I would be pissed about it and think it was a stunt. But the fact they didn't have to do anything if they didn't want to makes me think of it as a good tribute.

i never saw the original tribute show. but the highlights i saw were very tastefully done, & very emotional. had i not been in a room full of people, i instantly would've teared up. as soon as i saw jarrett being interviewed i thought "oh fuck, i'm gonna be crying in front of all my friends."

owen's death gets to me in a way that no other famous person's death ever got to me. when i hear people talk about other dead celebrities it seems like glossing over, like lip service. but the tributes i've heard about owen all seem to paint a genuine picture of who he really was. he truly seemed like the nicest guy in the world. i'm not the biggest fan of his work (he was a great wrestler but i still prefer guys like bret, benoit, flair, etc), but if i could meet any wrestler, dead or alive, it would be him. and it makes me so sad that such a warm, fun, loving person could die so young like that.

There probably isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of Owen and what wrestling would be like if he was around today. I tend to think of that about other wreslters but Owen is always the guy that stands out in my mind. I wish I had taken the oppurtunity to watch more of his matches when I was younger.

I, being the girl I am, cried like a little baby. I'm just glad there wasn't anyone else in the room. It still gets to me whenever I read, or watch Owen Hart. And I thought the tribute show was classy.

I've never noticed it before, but I think of Owen Hart and his career and what it would be like if he was still around quite frequently also, wow.

The Owen Raw was classy.

But continuing the PPV was not.

I'm sure that if Steph died the PPV would have ended. I don't think that they should have had matches on the raw after either, maybe one or two "tribute matches" like the one WCW had. It's great that they did some type of tribute, but I always get mad when I see Austin toasting a beer to the picture of Owen, I don't think Owen would have liked that.

Over The Edge was my first WWF PPV ever. I almost never bought another PPV again. Owen's death was a complete and utter shock to me (as I am sure it was to all of you). The Owen Tribute RAW had me sobing like a little girl with a skinned knee.

Just, you seem to REALLY like Pro. Wrestling, that's all. I'd give anything to find a gal who could actually sit down and watch it with me...

...and ENJOY it herself, that would simply be awesome.

I want to say that no matter WHAT Vince did, there would be people who wouldn't have been happy. Had he NOT done a tribute show, people would be pissed that he didn't do one, and even though he DID, some didn't like it or think it was truly out of respect, and that pisses me off.

I'm sure Owen would have loved it. Pro. Wrestling was what his life always revolved around, and it was his second love after his family. I'm sure Owen would sit back and smile that big goofy smile we all loved so much at Austin, I'm sure he had a big laugh at it.

I bawled like a baby during the original aired. I teared up tonight, but only because they didn't show more.

I'd hoped they would show some of Owen's funnier moments both times in a little tribute package, since the way they emphasized his sense of humor I thought that would be a great way to honor him.

Even if it includes him saying how "kicked the leg out of his...leg..."

I can not stress enough how much that is my favorite promo in the history of WWF. That shouldn't be on a "funny" package, it should be on a "one of the greatest moments EVER" package.

Hehehe...well, I didn't mean the whole promo, just that part. The promo itself was pretty good, but that was really funny.

It's really too bad they couldn't show more Owen HArt clips during the Tribute show. I kknow it was because it would seem inappropriate because it would be mostly heel antics, but still...

I don't think it was funny, not at all (I'm not on your case, I'm just saying, lol). To me, that promo was one of the most emotional promo's ever. It was the crucial moment where brother turned against brother, and the true kick off to one of the greatest feuds ever. To me the promo felt like reality, like he MEANT what he was saying, he did a damn fine job. In reality, when someone is pissed like that, usually you GET tongue tied, and say something stupid that you don't mean to. To me his saying that made it feel more like real life, like he was REALLY caught up in the emotion of hating his brother so much, that he was loosing all of his controll.

Damn, that was a great moment.

I honestly forgot how awesome that tribute show was. I can remember watching it ( I never taped it DOH!) It just makes me want to watch the entire show one more time to see everyone else's reactions and the Jeff Jarrett Sharpshooter. I'm so proud that that was voted the best RAW moment, and I am very glad to have been able to see it (even if it was only part) one more time.

The thing that bugs me most about the Owen show is that Bret came off really offended by it...and he has more room to judge something like that then we do...I liked the show though.

I loved how Owen got his 2nd Slammy award. He was presenting the award for "Best Bow Tie"...he kinda just declared himself the winner and took the trophy.

"You may have two belts, Bulldog. But you don't have two Slammys"

Oh my God, I forgot his saying that. He was so awesome on the mic, he had such an intense goofy voice, he was simply classic.

Weird question of the moment: Has anybody ever thought of getting a tatoo or doing something in Owens memory outside of wrestling? The tatoo thought has crossed my mind before. I mean, people get tatoos of so much stupid shit that a tatoo remembering a great wrestler wouldn't be bad at all.

I sobbed like baby. I never saw the entire tribute show before. I was about 11 when Owen died...and he was one of my favorite wrestlers, and the only person that had died that i had known (and grown up watching). It really hit me hard. Owen Hart is now my hero, and I'm proud to say that. I hope I can one day be even half as cherished as Owen. And yeah, I probably will get a tatoo of his name one day, and name a son after him. I think about him everyday.

God bless Owen Hart.
