The whole white=good bad=black probably goes back to the dawn of mankind when we saw th sun, which is white when you stare directly at it, things were good. When it got dark, ie black, bad things would happen, like predators animals being out. It was the fear of not being able to see whats out there. Black became a representation of not knowing, and what we dont know or understand, we tend to fear.
