Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 I hate Joey Styles. He is quite possibley the only announcer that has made me want to cut off my ears.
Guest Human Fly Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 Lita on Sunday Night Heat is pretty bad, her and the Coach = the worst announcing team going right now. Indy announce teams are better. Stevie Ray might not have been the greatest, but calling everyone a "fruit booty" and all the women "yaks" was classic stuff. Edit: Joey Styles hit his peak around 96 - 97. Before he was too bland, and afterwards it was like he was trying to parody himself.
Guest Joejigatame Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 Joey Styles does indeed suck. Without post-production, he's terrible. I have no idea why people rave about him. Most WWE announcers are really poor, and Jim Ross should be embarrassed on how much he's degraded since JCP.
Guest imajackoff? Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 David Crockett and Shane McMahon. Nepotism is a bad thing.
Guest Zero_Cool Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 I can't stand Madden, especially for the fact that he made Kevin Smith movies stupid and annoying, as he kept raddling off the same catchphrases from the movie over and over again. *everytime Hugh Morrus/Bill DeMott would go for the moonsault* Madden: Fly fatass, FLY! *something cool happens, which did happen with the cruisers lurking* Madden: SNOOCHIE BOOCHIES! Also, please do not forget his creepy admiration of one Scott Steiner, as he almost ruined a pair of pants every week when Steiner came out.
Guest PhillyDogg Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 Remember when an ECW pay per view would come up Joey Styles would say "This is the greatest pay per view in hisssstory".
Guest PhillyDogg Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 I'm surprised nobody really bashed Pettengill. He didn't know his ass from his elbow when it came to wrestling. Why did Vince hire this dork? One of the many reasons why I question Vince's "genius".
Guest bob_barron Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 I always found Madden to be pretty funny. Him and Disco have really good chemistry- they made Harrises v. Mamalukes watchable
Guest Slapnuts00 Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 I'm surprised nobody really bashed Pettengill. He didn't know his ass from his elbow when it came to wrestling. Why did Vince hire this dork? One of the many reasons why I question Vince's "genius". Pentingail never did play by play so he was ok as a hype/shill guy. I just don't agree with the Joey Styles sentiment, I like a guy who can keep up with all the moves, pays attention to the match and knows something about the background of wrestlers, plus he had a knack for throwing in some funny comment at the right time.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 Well I hate shills. And Styles was the worst of them all. He'd always be like "This is ECW! Better than what WWF is throwing at you!" I hated his constant shilling of ECW as the greatest promotion ever and that is one of the reasons I dislike ECW so much.
Guest ReyReyRox00 Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 The worst announcer is Jerry the King no doubt. I mean that guy sucks ass
Guest Slapnuts00 Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 Well I hate shills. And Styles was the worst of them all. He'd always be like "This is ECW! What's he supposed to say, the WWF better and ECW is second rate? All announcers do the same thing, WCW and WWF too...
Guest AndrewTS Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 If Madden could have shut the hell up and just did PBP he wouldn't have been so bad. Although, once Russo took over I couldn't help but notice the increased use of backstage interviewers. They're all over Raw, and basically amount to being a human mic stand, asking dopey questions, and sometimes being humiliated by the Rock. I can't help but be reminded of Pamela Paulshock. That girl obviously had no clue about wrestling whatsover. Pretty to look at, but she just looked clueless and did her job. Of course, it's pretty hard to screw up being a backstage interviewer, at least they never stuck her in the booth like WWE did Cole and Coach.
Guest teke184 Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 Announcers in general suck today because they're too busy getting their catchphrases over. I'm sorry, but the ANNOUNCERS do NOT need catchphrases Styles was good whenever I didn't hear "OH MY GAAAAAWD" or "Kataha Jame" instead of Tazmission. The King started to suck around late 97, not coincidentally as the Attitude era kicked in and "puppies" was coined. JR has dropped off since late 1998. I'd say that his bouts of Bells Palsy, combined with the backstage wars with Russo in 98-99 and the stresses of being the head of talent relations, has wrecked him as an announcer. His old OCCASIONAL use of catchphrases has degenerated into matches that go "Stone Cold Stone Cold Stone Cold! He's a hoss! It looks like a payday in Muskogee down there with Big Evil, Booger Red, the Undertaker stomping a mudhole in The Game." Tenay is very good and is low key. After most of the announcers we've seen over the past 5 years since everyone got attitude~!, low key is a VERY nice trait to have. The Cat knows a little about what's going on, but only people who've seen him in WCW give a shit about "Somebody call my momma!" Cole was horrid up until the middle of this year when the split went into effect. Heyman's done wonders with turning him and Tazz into an announce team, but he's got a long way to go. Heyman was good whenever he could keep his ECW pimping under control. Telling people that Rhyno was the last TV and World champion of ECW was acceptable because he was a new guy. Hearing about the 50 titles the Dudleyz have had in ECW got old, though. The best announcers of all time would probably be Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan, and Jesse Ventura. All of them were capable of calling a match, getting an angle over, AND showing some personality without relying on inane catchphrases.
Guest AndrewTS Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 King and JR's degradation is sad. JR was a good straight man while King longed to be Heenan. Now JR's a fat Okie, catchphrase-spouting, hoss-loving yes-man while King is an idiotic perv. Not the worst, but shitty as compared to before.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 Remember when an ECW pay per view would come up Joey Styles would say "This is the greatest pay per view in hisssstory". Yeah, I remember that...just like Tony S and good ol JR would. That' nothing new. I could never stand Lance Russle...he bugs me
ChrisMWaters Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 Just trying to remember, who were the announcers used for WOW?
Guest BorneAgain Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 Oh God I just remembered two of the worst. Mongo and Bischoff circa 95-96. Between McMicheal spouting off his Bobby the Stain insults and Eric ranting about "flying leg kicks", I don't know how poor Heenan survived.
Guest PhillyDogg Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 David McLane And Lee Marshall where the WOW announcers. It' funny that I was more sad to see WOW go then WCW. Watching WOW was a breath of fresh air meaning I enjoyed the gimmick oriented wrestling rather then the crap the WWE has. Before you bash me because I liked WOW, you have to admit that it was more enoyable the XFL. Good old HeHateMe.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 Wait a minute... Stevie Ray called a small package as a brainbuster? Seriously? That's insane... Worst annoucer ever, I pick Shane McMahon. Best, probably Heenan.
Guest TheGame2705 Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Worst Ever......Tie- Tazz, Cat, and Stevie Ray; shitty wrestlers do NOT make even decent commentators JR has too many idiotic phrases and Lawler's an unfunny perv. Styles is a very annoying fuck. "HOORENCANRANA!" "TOMMY *constipated voice* DRRRRRREEEEEEAMER* I like Tenay the most as he knows the names of almost all the moves (some slipups here and there but who can keep up with all the stuff some of these guys do). Heenan was good but I never laughed at him too much and to him, Bubba Rogers would always be the Bossman.
Yuna_Firerose Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 JR....I think it's kinda funny. The guy just says the same stuff over and over.....and it becomes catchphrases. Although, I'm STILL waiting for the definition of a "hoss". King....gawd, is he awful! I hated that he got in a match with my hotty Stevie Richards, since Stevie is SOOOO above that, but still...King was NOT announcing the main-event, and that just freakin' ruled, in my opinion. Plus King REALLY annoyed me when he talked during Fozzy's performance. Personally, I love Fozzy. Yet, you didn't see King chatting during Union Underground's performance. Soooo, Y2J's band gets buried along with his wrestling career?
ChrisMWaters Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Here's someone that nobody mentioned that I heard wasn't that great an announcer: Bruno Sammartino
