Guest ManKinnd Report post Posted January 4, 2003 Now that the year is totally over, I was wondering what matches you guys would put in the top ten category. My ratings and reasons: 1. Eddy vs. Rey - SD - ****1/2. I liked this better than everyone and even more than their Haloween Havoc classic, which I found overrated. Just an awesome mix of high flying and hard hitting. A masterpiece on free tv. I got used to it this year. 2. Benoit vs. Angle - Unforgiven - ****1/2. This was just a perfect example of mat wrestling and good power moves (mostly suplexes) for the climax. I liked it a little less than their WMX7 match, but this was still their best this year, and that's saying something. 3. Eddy vs. RVD - Ladder - ****1/2. This was the first of the awesome tv matches this year, with tons of holy shit spots and some really nice storytelling. Eddy was God this year. 4. Eddy/Chavo vs. Rey/Edge vs. Angle/Benoit - Survivor Series - ****1/2. This was my co-favorite version of this tag team war, with great matwork from Angle/Benoit, psychology from Eddy/Chavo, and highspots from Edge/Rey. Yea, this had it all. 5. Angle/Benoit vs. Rey/Edge - 2/3 falls - ****1/2. This SD match seemed like an afterthought to the whole feud, but it still rocked. It was better than the No Mercy finals for some reason, seemed like better build. 6. Edge vs. Angle - Judgment Day - ****1/4. I still reside as the only one here to like this better than Backlash, but I don't have a solid reason why. I gave them the same rating, but if I had to choose one to go above the other, this is it. It seemed like more of a solid wrestling match than somewhat of a spotfest. 7. Edge vs. Angle - Backlash - ****1/4. The match that made us think Edge might be a star. Nearfalls galore and tons of mixed in highspots. 8. Edge vs. Eddy - No DQ - ****1/4. This match helped too. At first I thought people were overreacting, but rewatching it with a friend helped me see that this really was a solid outing with some great ladder spots to boot. 9. Triple H vs. Jericho - HIAC - ****1/4. These two went out and had a great HIAC without a huge bump. They covered most of it with weapons and highspots, but in the end it was just a really fun match with enough bumps to keep the HIAC name alive. 10. Triple H vs. HBK - Summerslam - ****. This has to go on here because of the shitfest everyone expected. HBK was awesome here, selling and working the crowd all the way. HHH used his offense very smartly and I was just a simple mark by the end.
Guest Mole Report post Posted January 4, 2003 Eeeer, I agree with all of those except for the Jericho vs Triple-Juice HIAC. That match was NOT ****1/4, IMHO. More like ***, if that. You forgot the classic Rock/Hogan match...ha.

EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2003 1) No Mercy Tag Title Finals-Rey/Edge vs/ Angle/Benoit-Probably the only other WWF tag match EVER that rivals this is Michaels/Hart vs. Owen/Bulldog from April 1997. Awesome heat, GREAT spots (619 in THE CROSSFACE, the Assisted Asai Moonsault, the Psicosis Rope Guillotine), and my oh my can Rey be Ricardo Mortono muy bien. ***** 2) Rey/Edge vs. Angle/Benoit-2/3 falls-The rematch, which is almost just as good, except for the fact that there's the Dusty Finish and such. Once again, great heat segments, great spots, and most of all, it kept me entertained. ****3/4 3) Benoit/Angle vs. Los Guerreros-SD!-When you think about great tag wrestling this year, these two teams come to the forefront. I picked B and C as tag team of the year because they had such a long run with the titles, but these two teams, when they met in the tourney, were going to put on a clinic. Los Guerreros were rudos supreme. Benoit played Ricky Morton to perfection, and Angle was hot as hell when he tagged in. I'm loving this match to death. I need to watch this 10 more times to see the look on Chavo's face when he gets nailed with the chair. I fucking love this match. ****1/2 4) Eddie/Edge-No DQ-Who wants to see Eddie die for your pleasure? A Slingshot Senton on the sandwiched Edge. The MDK Powerbomb off the ladder. The BACKDROP ONTO THE LADDER WHEN HE LANDS ON HIS NECK. And he takes the Edgecution off the ladder and ropes like a MAN. This match fucking rocked my world. ****1/2 5) Rey/Eddie-SD!-11/21-Mmmm...rematch. Though it wasn't as great as the Halloween Havoc Classic (where's my Moonsault Springboard DDT?), these guys brought the hurt like it was a lucha match or something. EDDIE WITH A PESCADO? Love it. Rey with the SUPER CALO SLINGSHOT SENTON ON A VERTICAL EDDIE? ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. Eddie grabbing the ropes on the Lasso? RUDO GREATNESS SO HE CAN CHEAT TO WIN~! I'm not really feeling much of the psychology in the match, but who cares. This is a LUCHA match. There can be just a LITTLE psychology and I'll be happy with it. I'm gonna track down HH 97 just for that match again. Excuse me...****1/4 6) Eddie/RVD-Ladder Match on RAW-SICK SPOTFEST. The fan run-in and the switched ending doesn't really turn me off aside from the fact that the ladder sucked from the beginning, and that they did all those spots on a BUSTED LADDER, pretty much. This showed that Eddie could work any style he wanted to. ****1/4 7) Angle/Benoit-Unforgiven-MOTY if they didn't decide to team up and put on three more of em...Benoit cheating to win just made me realize that he CAN do whatever the fuck he wants and still win. Crowd didn't feel it. Fuck them. ****1/4 8) Rey/Edge vs. Los Guerreros-SD!-I am loving this match simply because Los Guerreros are the best heel team to come along in AGE for the WWF. They will cheat like mofos and make you HATE THEM EVEN MORE. The ending with Eddie turning his back is GENIUS. ****1/4 9) HHH/Shawn-SummerSlam-Yes, this was an egofuck. Yes, almost all the offense came from HHH, but dammit, that is how the match was supposed to go. Shawn could still put on a show. It's just a shame that after this match, they couldn't improve on it. Shawn IS crazy for those two big bumps. **** 10) Benoit/RVD-SummerSlam-If you look, Rob DID sell the shoulder. I don't get the beef with people saying that he didn't sell. His offense is a WHOLE BUNCH OF KICKS and he stiffs the fuck out of Benoit like a MAN. Benoit TAKES them like a MAN. Loving the finish. ****
Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted January 5, 2003 I haven't watched a PPV since RR and I don't remember Rock/Jericho very well so I can only safely say that I have seen one particularly spectacular match this year, which is Eddie v. Egde No DQ Sept 26 SD. I think I would go either ***3/4 or **** for that one, but I only saw it the one time so I'm not positive. Seemed like a good match with a couple good spots for the end. The SD tag matches were pretty good, but I can't remember one specifically that stood out, though they were probably close to the No DQ match in comparison.
