Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2003 Lets go to the stats for some idea on who will want a QB. Starting from the bottom of the total yards in the AFC Houston (has a QB, you do not draft two QBs in the first round in two straight years) Jacksonville (possible late pick) Baltimore (their QB has more recongition than the chewing tobacco, I don't follow them much though) Miami (You never know) San Diego (not a chance) Tennessee (nope) Cleveland (nope) Jets (nope) and that's the bottom half but, at #8 are the go-go Bengals. Who will be tempted to draft Carson Palmer. Carson, don't do it. Remember Ki-Jana. and in the NFC, the bottom teams for passing are Dallas (possibly), Carolina (no idea, they do have 36 year old Rodney Peete and 1-14 Chris Weinke), Arizona (possible), Detroit (probably not, even if Harrington can't return), Chicago (duh; unless Burris is the QB of the future), Atlanta (not a chance) and Washington (Grossman) Some predictions here pick #1: Palmer goes to Cincinnati. Well, like how John Elway went to Baltimore. There have to be better picks here. pick #3: Leftwich goes to the Bears pick #5: Dallas would be here, but I'd expect that they will find a way to trade their pick. Remember, I'm not sure if Arizona gets 5th or 6th, but they beat the Cowboys, so they should get the 6th pick pick #6: The Cards should be getting a QB here. Although after the Fiesta Bowl, it'd be unwise to make Dorsey play in Sun Devil Stadium Honestly, I don't see how Dorsey gets picked before Sunday. He should fare better than Gino Torretta though. I still think it'd be very weird if the Dolphins picked Dorsey at some time. Anyways.. leave thoughts
Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted January 6, 2003 Well, it's being reported that the Packers might draft Grossman, but I don't think he'll fall that far...you know Steve Spurrier would trade anything to get Grossman. Outside of Palmer, Leftwich and Grossman I really don't see any other possible first-rounders. Maybe Kyle Boller, but I think he'll go in the second or third rounds. Chris Simms could go in that area too, he has an NFL-caliber arm. Dorsey's a third, fourth rounder I think. He'll have to take the Tom Brady route (i.e. he'll have to move up the depth chart steadily, won't be thrown in immediately as a starter). I don't know if Seneca Wallace will be playing quarterback or another position in the NFL (watch the Steelers draft him, make him a reciever...you won't know who's throwing or catching the ball). Brad Banks and Jason Gesser might have to get lucky just to get drafted...proven winners but we don't know how they'll do in the NFL. I'm pretty sure Palmer will go to Cincinnati, and Leftwich to Chicago. After that, the quarterback talent kinda fades away.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted January 6, 2003 What about Ken Dorsey?! It's all about Ken Dorsey, damnit! Oh, and KINGSBURY~! (Texas Tech.. whoo)
Guest Angle Armbar Report post Posted January 6, 2003 Dorsey will suck, and suck bad as a pro. He reminds me so much of Rob Johnson. He has the same long throwing motion, didn't get much pressure put on him in college, but when he did, he shit his drawers. Leftwich should be the first QB drafted. Nothing against Palmer, but Leftwich has the chance to be a really special player. Very strong and accurate arm, big enough to take a pounding, decent running ability and has shown the heart and leadership qualities to be a great QB in the NFL. I don't see why Grossman should be a 1st round pick. He's short, he doesn't have a great arm, and he's not mobile. I have to think Ragone should be a 1st round pick, too. Strong arm, big guy, all that good stuff.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2003 Here's the QB situation for all 32 teams, some of this could be wrong, if it is, I apologize in advance. (Note: This post will be a bit long, just a warning in advance) Buffalo - They acquired Drew Bledsoe before this season. I don't see them drafting a QB for a while. Miami - The Dolphins have Fiedler, Lucas and Sage Rosenfels, it's a bit tough to tell what they'll do regarding their QB situation. Fiedler is the starter. New England - They have Tom Brady and Rohan Davey. They're set at QB for now, unless Brady falls off the radar. Now what the hell are they gonna do with Rohan Davey? New York Jets - Chad Pennington took over for Vinny Testaverde earlier this season and has done a good job since then, and it looks like he'll be keeping his starting job for a while. Dallas - The Cowboys acquired Chad Hutchinson as a free agent earlier this year. They also have Quincy Carter. IMO, this situation is a mess. New York Giants - Obviously Kerry Collins is starting. I believe they have Jesse Palmer somewhere on their depth chart (A Florida QB, I think you know how that goes) I'm not too sure what they will be doing about this position. Washington - Like Dallas, the Redskins also have a messy QB situation. When you rotate between guys like Shane Matthews and Danny Wuerrfel, you know there is something wrong. They also have Patrick Ramsey. Philadelphia - This one is easy, McNabb is the starter. Not sure what the future holds for his backups though. Baltimore - I am really unsure of their situation. I know they have Chris Redman and Jeff Blake, and that's about it. Cincinnati - I guess Jon Kitna is the starter, not sure about the other two QBs on their depth chart. Cleveland - Tim Couch is the starter, Holcomb is the backup. Easy as that. Pittsburgh - As we all know now, Tommy Maddox is the starter. Are they keeping Kordell Stewart? Chicago - They have Jim Miller, Chris Chandler, and Henry Burris. Now from what I heard Burris is the QB of the future. What the hell are they gonna do when Miller and Chandler get hurt again? Detroit - The Lions drafted Joey Harrington and also have Mike McMahon. What are they gonna do with both of these guys? Green Bay - Right now Favre is the starter unless he retires. IMO they should get a QB to groom behind Favre to become the QB of the future after Favre goes if he doesn't go within the next few weeks. (I know someone already mentioned it, but I wanted to make mention of it myself) Minnesota - Daunte Culpepper is the starter, unless they decide to bring in someone else to start. Houston - David Carr is their starter, I don't see them drafting another QB for a long time, unless Carr becomes a bust. Indianapolis - Peyton Manning is starting, they don't need a QB. Jacksonville - They drafted David Garrard last year. I assume the Jaguars will be grooming Garrard to become the next starter after Mark Brunell leaves. Tennessee - It's obvious that Steve McNair is the starter. I don't think they should look at drafting a QB. Atlanta - Vick is the starter and will be for a while barring serious injury or serious drop in performance, 'Nuff said. Carolina - The Panthers have a confusing QB situation. They have Rodney Peete, Chris Weinke and Randy Fasani. What the hell are they gonna do with these guys? It's obvious Fasani isn't ready to start and it's obvious Peete isn't the long-term solution to their QB woes and I guess Weinke wasn't good enough. This is confusing IMO. New Orleans - Right now Aaron Brooks is the starter, unless they decide to bring in someone else to start which isn't very likely. Tampa Bay - I guess this situation is set. Brad Johnson, Rob Johnson and Shaun King. Can someone tell me what the point was of the Bucs bringing in Rob Johnson? Denver - Brian Griese is the starter, Steve Beuerlein is the backup and that's all I know about it. Kansas City - Trent Green is the starting QB here. Now what I want to know is, who the hell is his backup? Oakland - Rich Gannon is the starter and it looks like Marques Tuiasosopo is the next in line to start after Gannon leaves. San Diego - Drew Brees is the starter and obviously the QB of the future. Arizona - Looks like Jake Plummer could be on his way out. The Cardinals drafted Josh McCown, if Plummer goes, I assume McCown becomes the starter unless they do something else. St Louis - This situation could get tricky, IMO. The Rams have Kurt Warner, Marc Bulger and Jamie Martin. I see an interesting QB competition in training camp for the starting spot. Seattle - Trent Dilfer is (or was) the starter and then Matt Hasselbeck took over and did a good job. I wonder if Dilfer is gonna keep his starting job when he gets back. San Francisco - The 49ers have Jeff Garcia as their current starter. The Niners also have Tim Rattay, Cade McNown and Brandon Doman as the backups. IMO the whole situation gets tricky from QBs 2 thru 4.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted January 6, 2003 Baltimore - I am really unsure of their situation. I know they have Chris Redman and Jeff Blake, and that's about it. Blake had a one-year deal, and is again a free agent. He showed he wasn't the answer for the Ravens. It's not that he played poorly, but he showed the same maddening inconsistencies he always did. He has a tremendous arm, but no head for the game, and is not a leader on the field. He's mobile enough to avoid getting hit a lot, but when he does get hit, he fumbles. I wouldn't mind seeing him come back as the backup, but he's definitely going to want a raise. Redman is a medical uncertainty at this point. The Ravens are not convinced that his back problems will ever allow him to play a full season without missing time for injuries. He didn't look bad when he played, but I don't see him turning into anything other than an average NFL QB. IMO, the Ravens ought to bring in Jake Plummer. I'm sure several teams will bid for him, but the Ravens will have an awful lot of money to spend. I think they angered the football gods by tossing Trent Dilfer aside after he'd won the Super Bowl, so they'd better hope their period of bad karma is over. As for the draft... if Leftwich isn't the first QB taken, something's wrong.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted January 7, 2003 Grossman will end up a Redskin, even though they have Patrick Ramsey. The good thing about this is that they will be able to dump Wuerffel and/or Shane Matthews. The Ravens should do their best to keep Redman out there and draft a WR, not a QB. Im not for the Ravens getting Plummer either.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted January 7, 2003 I like Plummer because he knows how to win. He's been stuck on some dreadful teams in Arizona, and hasn't really had a lot to work with. He's managed to win a bunch of games in the fourth quarter, though, which means he can put a game away if you give him the chance. He's mobile enough to avoid taking the big hits, protects the ball well, and has a pretty good arm. He's still pretty young, though, and I think he'd make a great fit in Baltimore. Along with teammate David Boston, who's a restricted free agent this offseason.
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted January 7, 2003 I agree with Tom on Plummer. Plummer should be talking with the Niners. Garcia isn't going to be around for long as I see him playing maybe another 2 years tops before he breaks down/retires. With the right coaching, Plummer could be the guy to fill the void Garcia will leave when he is gone. "The Snake" needs to get out of Arizona as it is just a rotten organization and Jake has picked up some bad habits because of his time there. Of course Tampa Bay could also use a good backup QB/future starter since their starting QB will be 35 this year and their two backups are just abysmal. Plummer desperately needs a break. If he takes a starting job on another God awful team with a lousy coaching staff then he will probably end up as a failure.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted January 7, 2003 The Bengals need to work out a deal with Palmer right know. He'll end the Bengals streak of bad draft choices, and might make the WR's like Warrick, and Johnson better.
