Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 7, 2003 I've always liked Type O quite a bit. Love the vocals, and the blatant usage of Beatles and Sabbath as influence. At points it gets really obvious, but then again they're doing Sabbath and Beatles covers anyway so it's not like they're trying to hide anything or give anyone the wrong idea. Anyway, I'm stuck on picking a favorite album between October Rust and World Coming Down. They both have awesome songs and top-notch recording and studio work. Origin of the Feces is really interesting as well. Their cover of Paranoid on that album's not very good, in my opinion, but everything else is good shit. Are you Afraid? really stands out to me on that album. Bloody Kisses (Death in the Family) is another one of their tracks I'm really into. Slow and heavy, with some really depressing lyrics. Too many throw away tracks on there, but it still lacks that charm that Origin of The Feces has. Not to mention the production isn't too hot by Type O standards. Guest converge241 Report post Posted January 8, 2003 yeah that will probably always be my favorite just takes me back to that time period and all and seeing Black no 1 on Headbanger's Ball and all Origin is a hell of a romp. Hey Peter is insane live, as well as Pain. those are always highlights when they perform. Best show was probably when they had Life Of Agony opening up during the Bloody Kisses tour (which had Fear Factory on some shows too) they are not as good when they are opening for bigger bands in the big setting though (opning for Danzig, Queensryce, Motley Crue, Nine Inch Nails). It has to be them, in a club headlining so they can play the 2 hour set with all the covers and proper lighting Ive seen them in the daytime outside twice..thats just wrong.. It dont work. Same applies for all death metal oops ..i take that back about best show..best was on Bloody Kisses tour with DI opening up ..longest theyve ever played (that ive seen them) plus got to meet them all afterwards.. Peter is the process of the overdubs needed to flesh out this beast — including a boat scene. Guest red_file Report post Posted January 10, 2003 The thing I've always loved about TON is the wit; I mean, their greatest hits was The Least Worst of Type O Negative. And the vocals are pretty sweet. And I always liked the fact that the songs on their early albums were arranged in movements. My only complaints about the group are the relatively uninteresting drums and the tendency to needlessly stretch songs. There was no reason for "World Coming Down" to be a ten minute song. Their best album has to be October Rust. One throwaway song; probably their best work in "Wolf Moon," "Love You to Death," "Cinnamon Girl," and "Be My Druidess;" the Black Sabbath influence is kept to a minimum while the Doors influence is center stage; the production is incredibly lush; and I just identify more with the sexualized lyrics than the pessimism of some of the other albums. While I like some of the songs on World Coming Down ("Everything Dies," "Who Will Save the Sane," and "Pyretta Blaze" being very good cuts), but I don't really like the soundscapes, Johnny probably shouldn't pursue a singing carreer, and it seems as though some of the songs were stretched for no good reason. And, like I said, the concept of the album didn't really connect with me. Their debut is, imo, their weakest album. "Unsuccessfully..." is a great song, and "Prelude to Agony" is really funny, but the rest of the album seems to come off more as a demo than an actual album. "Misinterpretation of Silence..." and "The Glass Walls of Limbo" are complete throwaways; "Der Untermensch" seems really out of place against the other songs and doesn't really sound like them; "Xero Tolerance" seems to have Peter channeling James Hetfield in the first movement, which seems to linger just a tad longer than is necessary; and "Gravitational Constant" no longer works for me. I don't recall the last time I put the album on. I live near Philly so I was able to catch them twice on Halloween, so that was pretty cool. Their sound is kinda muddled live, which I suppose can't be helped, but it was a little disappointing. Anyone fans of Carnivore, Pete's previous band? Just a really, really funny set of albums.
