Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 7, 2003 My past job, which was only for about four or five months, was the first one I've had that was a true five days a week 8-4 type of thing. I have to say that I got VERY used to it, because now that I sit here at home I don't know what the hell to do, other than post here and whatnot. I feel like I'm going crazy, and need something to do! It's amazing how much I got used to working, when before having nothing to do seemed so, easy. Oh well, I just wanted to share that, thanks. However, there simply aren't any jobs in my area, and I mean that literally. If you look in the papers, etc... there are only maybe 1-6 jobs in there a day, all of which are stuff that I am not qualified for and the such. It's really hard here, REALLY hard. My mom actually works at an employment agency however, so I have all of them looking for me there also... ...but even with that, they have almost no jobs coming in, ugh. It will keep you busy, you can meet new people and when the economy turns around you have something on your resume. You may even move up in that low end job. Seriously Downhome, volunteer work could lead into something even better for you down the line. Most teachers and social workers (the two fields that I'm interested in winding up in) start off as volunteers and wind up getting placed somewhere, or moving up in the same company due to their volunteer status. Guest RenegadeX28 Report post Posted January 8, 2003 I know how you feel dude. The last time I had a job was early September.... I worked all summer. Basically, I didn't enjoy my vacation. From July 1st to August 8th, 2002, I worked at North Bergen Parks Dept. It was brutal. Around here (New Jersey), it was one of the hottest summers in a while. There was that heatwave that happened....at 9am, it peaked 93 degrees, and I was outside cutting grass. We had to go to all the parks in town. It was worth it. I got more than $700 bucks. The week right after I finished there, there was a store called Family Dollar opening like 3 blocks away from me. So I applied to be part of the Grand Opening staff. Another brutal 2 weeks began. The first day..........96....97 degrees....and I was in an 18-wheeler.......unloading all the stuff, to build the store..(shelves......aisle dividers.....etc). It was worth it. It killed alot of time, since I didn't do anything at home. Another 320 bucks to my name. Since that last day at Family Dollar.....(oh yeah, they let all the minors go, since the store has early closing times), I have not had a job. It is VERY HARD to get a job here... The biggest problem with going for low-level jobs is that OFTEN the description does not necessarily have that much to do with what you actually end up doing....Or you are hired with the promise or mind-set that the company is actually looking to temps for eventual hirings, yet within 2 weeks you find it is just bullshit and you are in the nightmare routine just like everyone else.....oh wait, did I just volunteer my private information?? hehehe Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
