Guest TheBostonStrangler Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I was just wondering if people saved all the stuff that they wrote. I know some people are always upset that they can't find some of their older matches, and I was just a little surprised to find out that people didn't keep all their old stuff. I have every match and promo I've ever written saved on my hard drive, even from back in the old JL days. It's fun to read through the older stuff and see how far I've come since then. So what do you people do? Keep them? Just let 'em go?
Guest midnight_burn Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I still have everything i've written saved, so i can go back and read stuff i did back when i didn't totally suck.
Guest Powerplay Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I do. Everything I've done is saved, though I nearly lost it after a freak problem with Novell would let me access my old windows account. And I don't really know why you wouldn't have it saved away somewhere.
Guest Kibagami Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 A lot of my matches got lost due to a damaged disk, but yeah, I save everything for reference purposes. K.
Guest Tod deKindes Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I save my stuff too. Hell, I even have my match against Matthew Kivell.
Guest KingOfOldSchool Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I've saved as many of my promos and matches as I could (well, the ones I've actually finished). But a lot of it is unlabeled and disorganized.
Guest chirs3 Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I usually save things that other people write, rarely anything of my own...
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I have everything I've ever done for the SWF and the ML, excepting a few tiny vignette-style promos on shows, little "so and so talk backstage" things. My first match against the long-gone Tsunami was only 3100 words. Zounds. I even have my 2500 word tryout match, wherein Edwin debilitates and humiliates...Chris Benoit. This was way back, before we were all using Kivell.
Guest 5_moves_of_doom Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I have all of my PM'd matches still intact... and... uh... about 20-25 matches saved to my comp. NOT by me.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 Don't you guys write in Microsoft word or notepad or something? Y'all be freaky freaks.
Guest 5_moves_of_doom Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 Don't you guys write in Microsoft word or notepad or something? Y'all be freaky freaks. No, I write all of my matches in the actual PM box when I send it... doesn't everyone else? Ok, so I use Word. Fuck you.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I did have all my stuff saved, but then my computer went south a few months ago and I lost everything from my JL and early WF days. I've been meaning to copy some stuff off the boards to have, but haven't done it yet. I hardly ever lose, so most of my matches are on the boards. I rule, you suck, deal with it.
Guest chirs3 Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 Don't you guys write in Microsoft word or notepad or something? Y'all be freaky freaks. When I was active, I had an SWF Folder with the follwing files: MATCH PROMO STATS OPPONENT And I just overwrote them as necessary. No new file for each match, I just deleted the last one and started over. In retrospect, that was impossibly stupid, but... oh well...

Pfft, I do that too, so don't feel bad... luckily the site keeps PM records... so every match I've written is still in my outbox. (Y)!
Guest Lightning Flik Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I did have all my stuff saved, but then my computer went south a few months ago and I lost everything from my JL and early WF days. I've been meaning to copy some stuff off the boards to have, but haven't done it yet. I hardly ever lose, so most of my matches are on the boards. I rule, you suck, deal with it. Lost everything I ever had just like you. Except mine was via a nasty little virus I got.
Guest TheAntipop Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 Yeah, Kazaa porn'll do that to you, homesqueeze.
Guest Lightning Flik Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 *scratches head* Actually, I ain't sure where I picked it up, since I don't use Kazaa.
Guest Muzz Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I wrote my first ever match in a PM, but I won, so it must be good luck.
Guest HVilleThugg Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I save all my stuff as well, however, I've been through 4 different computers since joining the fed way back when we were IGNWF. Most of the computers I used went the way of the trash heap, and I lost a bunch of stuff. I lost ALL my JL stuff, and most of my material from my first title run and my ICTV title run. I was able to recover my favorite matches thanks to people like Crusen and Ash who are IGN Insiders... Da "got bless them" H
Guest El Luchadore Magnifico Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 Yup, every last bit. I think the only thing I'm actually missing is my tryout match, which I wrote in IGN's PM box.
Guest Dace59 Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I save my stuff. Not that it really has any value yet.
Guest Longdogger_Pete Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I save all my matches and promos, as well as some of my losing matches. I probably shouldn't save it all. I'm not sure why I do -- I never look at it again, and it takes up too much space.
Guest AnnieEclectic Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 Anyone who's been in chat with me at any good point in time knows that my hard drive fiascos have been legendary. However, when I first switched to Linux after I won the JL World belt I backed up a lot to bring over, I did have my first ten matches and my original IGNWF script. I still have them on disk so at least the time when I was a JL Goddess was saved. I can't really think of any other matches of late that I'd -want- to save except two I'll have to go get. One was the match where I beat Sacred that I'm still shocked I did. Secondly was my fifth win over Ash/Craven which to date is my best match I think. -Annie EDIT: And I don't know how Flik became an Eclectic mark but I thank you all the same :-D
Guest Lightning Flik Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 EDIT: And I don't know how Flik became an Eclectic mark but I thank you all the same :-D Easy. I've always enjoyed your matches since you joined and have always hoped you'd win. Thus, does that not make me a mark?
Guest Ash Ketchum Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 I pretty much have everything I've done since Day 1, which is March 1st, 2001, on file at IGN or here in my PMs, or on my computer.
janusd Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 I have three notepad files. One's for matches, one's for promos, and one's for the stats of myself and opposition for easy reference. I think I cleared out my outbox once too.....so all those matches... ;-; I think I kept my first singles loss to C-4, though.
Guest Tyler McClelland Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 I save everything for reference. I save RPs numerically and matches via name and date... yes, I'm a geek.
Guest Angel_Grace_Blue Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Not until recently, via having people track it down for me. Before, I figured, "Heck, there's no way that ZeroSleep (Board Admin or whatever @ IGN) would delete all of that old and cool stuff. No way at all." But, of course, like nearly everything else I predict, I was horribly wrong. So, many of the promo-things and matches that I wrote, or helped write, are all gone, and I don't have anything. Cry...
Guest Ace309 Posted January 11, 2003 Report Posted January 11, 2003 I write in Notepad and save everythingh along the following format: <Fed Name/'Promo'><Date on MMDDYY format of show or posting> So my match for Monday would theoretically be SWF011303.txt, and if I wanted to promo tomorrow it'd be PROMO011203.txt. I know, I'm a dork.
