Guest areacode212 Report post Posted January 8, 2003 OK, I'm pretty sure there are other people here like me (I think EQ is one of them), who are watching the show on R1 DVD, but avoiding the other thread so they won't read spoilers. So if you want to just discuss the first three years of this show, do it here (please avoid spoilers for Seasons 4-7...even though I think I know most of the "big" ones, I'd rather not find out for sure). Hopefully I won't be talking to myself in here. So...I'm pretty happy with my S3 DVD. Unfortunately, the "Previously's" were cut out again, and some of you may have noticed/heard that the first two episodes use the Season 2 theme music over the opening credits (so the cuts don't match the music). But I'm glad that it uses a much shorter menu animation compared to the tedious one from the S2 sets. I'm halfway through "Anne", and I was kind of surprised to see that girl from "Lie To Me" return. Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted January 8, 2003 Season 3 is probably pound-for-pound the best season in terms of overall stories and great episodes. You're in for a treat.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted January 8, 2003 Gotta love season 3, it say The Mayor. "Whoa whoa! Feet off the desk." I just poped in my season 2 dvd out of boredom and watched What's My Line Part 1 with commentary, it was Marti and not Joss...nothing special.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted January 8, 2003 Yeah, I listened to all of those commentaries out of boredom too (during the 3 weeks between episodes of 24). I couldn't believe David Greenwalt threatened to bring back Reptile Boy. Argh, does anyone really want to see that thing come back?
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2003 I'd have to say that Season 2 was my personal fave. You start out with the slow building and somewhat uneasy but eventually all good Buffy / Angel love affair, then the fantastic 'Innocense' / 'Surprise' heel turn, and then it's just slowly downhill for Buffy as she loses her pseudo-friend (Jenny Calender), her friend (Kendra), her mom, her home, her school and eventually her love as she's forced to kill Angel even after he's reverted back. Now that's good TV. Season 3 was strong but I don't know if the show can top 2 from an emotional standpoint. The episodes involving the alternate reality were amazing, 'Enemies' had a great swerve, 'Amends' was very touching and like 'Earshot' actually had a deeper meaning behind it, I enjoyed the introduction of Faith and Anya and the Mayor was a great villian. The Dames 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2003 I have yet to listen to the commentaries on Buffy, are they worth listening to? What I'm honestly surprised about is in the first few episodes of Season 3, there's no real mourning over Kendra. Cordelia just casually mentions that she's dead and they gloss over the fact that the charges have been dropped, but there's no real mourning moment. Dames It's a bit odd, but there's also been an entire summer between season two and three. A bit of time to mourn, I guess. This also holds up in later seasons, but I won't discuss them further since Areacode wants this thread to be spoiler-free. Though it would make sense for a little more between the actual gang, since Buffy doesn't get back till "Anne."
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2003 Arrgh I went to Wal Mart to buy Season 3 today, but they said they have not got it in yet. Plus I heard someone say they bought it cheap at a Wal Mart. I did see The Shield Season 1 though, but I didn't have enough money for it. I had $45 and it was like $48. Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted January 9, 2003 I saw Homecoming for the first time tonight, and that has become one of my favorite episodes ever, if only for the awesome ending. And that one vamp, Trick (I think), is very cool. This season seems great so far.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2003 'The Prom' is pretty good too as it involves Andrew's brother. Gotta love the end scene with the Sundays' cover of the Stones' "Wild Horses". I like to play that scene out in my head with me as Angel and Alyson Hannigan as Buffy.

Cordelia just casually mentions that she's dead and they gloss over the fact that the charges have been dropped, but there's no real mourning moment. Dames I wasn't all that surprised by this since a) Kendra really only hung out with the gang for like 2 episodes. They never got very attached to her the way they got attached to, say, Jenny Calendar. It sounds pretty cold, but considering that so many of their classmates have been slaughtered over the years without much more of a reaction than "damn, I've known her since kindergarten", it didn't surprise me that they didn't linger on Kendra. b) as Edwin said, a lot of time has passed between seasons, so we can assume that the gang had their bit of mourning off-screen, after the finale, and Buffy undoubtedly moped about it a lot when she was off "finding herself". She probably felt incredibly guilty about Kendra's death since she died protecting Buffy's friends and also because Buffy was (kind of) responsible for Kendra becoming a Slayer in the first place. I liked Kendra and would have liked to have seen more of her and some more Buffy/Kendra interaction during season 2. I think Marti Noxon says the same thing in the "What's My Line" commentaries. They were always somewhat awkward with each other, and it would have been nice to see more of a bond develop between the two. Also, the commentaries are worth listening to on a slow day or whatever. There are some mildly interesting anecdotes (Marti talking about how the extras tend to overact, how the graveyard is really their parking lot, etc...). You won't hear any amazing new revelations, but at worst, you get to watch a Buffy episode you probably haven't seen in a while, with some behind-the-scenes info. Arrgh I went to Wal Mart to buy Season 3 today, but they said they have not got it in yet. Plus I heard someone say they bought it cheap at a Wal Mart. That sucks. Best Buy has it for $39.99, and if you have a Circuit City near you, they'll match a competitor's advertised price. If you have a Wal-Mart ad flyer with the Buffy sale price listed, just bring it to CC and they'll match it, plus give you 10% of the difference (which usually ends up being like 60 cents or something). Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted January 9, 2003 The problem with price match: Best Buy often advertises stuff as "Low price!" Nowhere in this week's ad does it say that Season 3 is $39.99, so I doubt many stores will uphold it. My biggest problem with season 3? Not enough Spike. Though all the other new characters just about make up for him anyway.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted January 9, 2003 Maybe it depends what area of the country you're in because our local BB ad does advertise Buffy for $39.99. Hmm. If you don't have a local ad, and you have a store that price matches, maybe you can print out our BB ad and bring that in. They might fall for it. Go to bestbuy.com, click on Browse Weekly Ad, and type in 10025 as the zip code. I think Buffy is on page 5.
Guest EQ Report post Posted January 9, 2003 Best Buy has it for 40?! Damn... I have the money for it, but I know I shouldn't spend it cause I don't have much money. Dammit Dammit Dammit
Guest Mole Report post Posted January 9, 2003 I finished watching season 3 last night. Out of all the seasons I have seen all together, I like 3 the best. I thought it would be really hard to top season 2 because it was so good. But after watching 3, I changed my mind for one main reason. In 2, there seemed to be a lot more 'lame duck' episodes. In which there was just a monster, and Buffy went out to save it. In 3, there weren't as many 'lame duck' episodes. It seemed that almost every episode moved the plot along. And the few that didn't, were excellent episodes. "The Wish" was the best episode of Buffy I have ever seen. "The Zeppo" was another great lame duck episode, showing that Xander could handle anything his own situation. He thought it was such a big deal, but the others were fighting off another threat to man kind. I don't know what the word for it is, but it was just a good episode all around. In both seasons, they had great bad guys to contend with Buffy. When Angel was good, he was the nicest guy ever. But when he lost his soul, he was soooo fuckin bad, I loved it. The mayor was a badass too, but you couldn't seem to hate him. He was just too cool, kind of like Bill the Butcher from Gangs of New York. Also, Faith was just a badass also, but she was so hot, I couldn't hate her. Bascially, season 2 had better bad guys, and a better ending. But, 3 had such a good plot throughout the whole season, I have to go with 3. So far, from what I have seen from Buffy, it goes Season 3, 2,1,6. If 7 keeps up with what is going on, it might top 3, but that is still hard. What did you fellas think? Mole
Guest Cavi Report post Posted January 10, 2003 I am a huge mark for Mayor Wilkins. His whole attitude was just great. I especially love some of his lines in "Graduation Day Part I & II". Trick is also damn cool. It's hard for me to choose one season as my all time favorite. Season Three may be the best in terms of looking at all the episodes, overall, but the Angel arc in Two is just incredible. Four and Five probably have my favorite stand out eps. Season One was some good stuff. It's always fun to watch old school Buffy. I still mark out for the scene in "Prophecy Girl" when Buff flips out. Six was a change of pace, though unlike a fair amount of people, I enjoyed it. The current season has been great thus far.
Guest Mole Report post Posted January 10, 2003 Yes, that Angel arc made for some great episodes. The whole thing with him and Buffy was just, crazy.
Guest PORNFAQ Report post Posted January 10, 2003 I slept on Season Two when it was originally released and it was just too damned expensive to pop for after that initial "first week" sale price. Luckily for me, Best Buy had Season Two marked down to 39.99 as well as Season Three so I just picked them both up today for like 83 bucks and some change. I've got a lot of catching up to do. Can't wait to see Faith again, though. I was overseas when she was introduced and I only got to see ONE episode featuring her before I had to move again. This is gonna be 2 Sweet. cawthon777 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2003 Just a note on Best Buy in northern Virginia - a friend of mine held off on picking Season 3 up until today since apparently they were running a sale. Well, by the time he showed up they had sold out of every copy. Not only that, but surrounding Best Buys were the same way. No word was given when they would get more in but it didn't sound promising.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2003 I couldn't believe David Greenwalt threatened to bring back Reptile Boy. Argh, does anyone really want to see that thing come back? That was my least favorite episode of Buffy EVER (considering I missed the Double Meat Place episode that everyone claims is the worst). That villian, Mathilda, or whatever the hell it was called....just...that was just trash. Dames

Guest raptor Report post Posted January 11, 2003 I maintain that Faith is the best television character ever created. Perhaps I'm just fascinated by the toll heroism has on people, and what would happen if someone kicked destiny in the balls and went bad. Eliza Dushku's performance is so layered and complicated that you can't help but feel for Faith, even though at points, she's one of the most evil characters Buffy ever fought. Guest PORNFAQ Report post Posted January 11, 2003 I had the same problem with Season Three being sold out at one of my Best Buys. But there's one that's even closer to my home (albeit smaller) that people rarely visit (because it's smaller than the BIG Best Buy) and luckily they still had 3 copies left. The Big Best Buy was sold out of Buffy Season Three and OZ Season Two.

Guest Cavi Report post Posted January 11, 2003 Ah, "Doublemeat Palace". How I remember the amount of heat it managed to garner. Some people really got all up in arms over that episode, even going as far as saying that Jane Espenson should have been fired for writting it. My main beef with it (gawd that was horrible pun, though not as bad as say "One bite stand" from earlier this season) was that lame old granny baddie. Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted January 11, 2003 Aparently no one wanted to take me up on my offer to get Season 3 for $35.99 from Amazon..with free shipping..which is probably the cheapest you'll find it..
Guest TUS_02 Report post Posted January 11, 2003 I don't think I can add anything that hasn't been said before. I love this fucking show to death. I also had no fricken clue how devoted people are to this show. I was watching Conan O'Brien interview Alyson Hannigan yesterday and she was saying that people have the Buffy logo tatooed on them as well as the characters faces tatooed on them as well. Freakin incredible. Going on a small tangent, my favorite storyline from seasons 1-3 is the Willow/Xander relationship. I nearly broke down when Willow found out Xander and Cordillia were fooling around and she BLEW UP at Xander. Anyway, if this is, in fact, the last season of Buffy, I REALLLLLY hope Xander and Willow get together.
