EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2003 Dynamite b Funaki by pin fall. -You read that correctly. Funaki jobbed to an indy guy tonight. How dare they treat Smackdown's #1 Announcer this way! At least it was a good match. Dynamite finished Funaki off with a move similar to the Acid Drop, but instead of spinning around into the bulldog, he flipped backwards into a reverse DDT. It looked great. Dynamite offered his hand to Funaki after the match. Funaki hesitated at first, but then shook it. The only person in the US who does that move IS Spanky, and this might be an indication that Spanky's name is being changed to Dynamite. I think it doesn't really matter, but oh well... EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2003 thank god you didn't say "Spanker" as opposed to "Spanky"
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted January 9, 2003 Besides Dynamite Kid the name "Dynamite' sound smore indy then if they used his real name. They just should've stuck with Spanky.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 9, 2003 How correct can Downhome be? Very correct. I'm just really glad he wasn't called DK II or something If they called him DK II, it would have been blaspheme and I would never accept him being called that damnit! I will admit that "Spanky" is not really a great main stream name for a wrestler.
Guest Banky Report post Posted January 9, 2003 Spanky would never work as a name. Dynamite, the evil masked wrestler, would be a good foil for Rey Mysterio. I like it, I like it a lot.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted January 9, 2003 Spanky is a horrid name that sounds totally bush league. Dynamite, while being cliched, at least has some punch behind it.

Guest razazteca Report post Posted January 9, 2003 Spanky would better off as Midnight Rocker Jr or something like that relating to his teacher or trainers. there are some names that should only be past on to family members or close friends, one of which is Dynamite. I don't think using the name "Dynamite" is a shitting on him. If he uses this, I don't think it will have anything to do with Dynamite Kid. And even if it does, I think it's kind of honoring him, since in that case they'd probably put it across as like the Ultimo Dragon/Little Dragon. Without mentioning them, of course. "Dynamite" is a pretty generic name for a wrestler, anyway. It sounds outdated and is a more indy-ish name than most indy names. It screams, "This guy is gonig nowhere." "Spanky" sucks, too, but at least it has more of a uniqueness.

Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted January 9, 2003 Maybe when Austin is back they can have a masked wrestler named "What."
Guest evilhomer Report post Posted January 9, 2003 Then they can bring back the masked Jim Neidhart and let the hilarity ensue. What the fuck is wrong with the creative staff at the WWE anyway? It's bad enough that they can't come up with any original storylines, but they can't even come up with a name for the talent, not even a cool sounding "real" name. Guest The Amazing Rando Report post Posted January 9, 2003 Can he be named a DATE? different dates for awesome matches... it'd be like Al Snow being from different countries...
Guest DragonflyKid Report post Posted January 9, 2003 I wouldn't think the name Dynamite would have been disrespectful towards Billington if Spanky or anyone would have used it from the start of his/her career as an homage to DK. Since it was probably the WWE's idea for marketing reasons I do feel it's disrespectful instead of a potential show of respect. In her prime Dynamite Kansai was great, I don't know if DK was the reason behind her changing her name but she did well with it.

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted January 10, 2003 From all I've read on the guy's gimmick, Spanky's name fits the gimmick too well: a weird guy. I still want a wrestler to be michievious and call himself "Puck"...of course, that would fly over the heads of all too many fans... Oh, and Spanky isn't the only person to use the Acid Drop-Inverted DDT move. XPW's Kid Kaos used it in 2000.

Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Report post Posted January 10, 2003 This should clear some stuff up - from wrestlingobserver.com: "--The character that Spanky played at Tuesday's taping in Tucson for Velocity on Saturday night was a masked man called The Diamond Back, not Dynamite. The name was used because of the Arizona Diamondbacks. I don't know exactly his gimmick but he won't be using that name in other cities, but maybe using the same costume and call himself after the local sports franchises (maybe he can be Andre the Giant in NY and SF). Again, I don't have full details on the gimmick other than that." Somehow, Dynamite doesn't seem so bad now....
