WWE wants Goldberg to keep Rock Happy

Recommended Posts

Guest FeArHaVoC

As reported earlier today, talks between Goldberg & WWE continue, but now have even more importance. It is expected that if Goldberg does reach a deal with WWE, he would face the Rock at WrestleMania, and then the two would have a rematch the next month at Backlash. The Rock is said to be very excited about possibly working with Goldberg, but not as excited as working with other talent. This has given WWE more incentive to go out and land Goldberg.

The idea is that if WWE signs Goldberg and has him work with the Rock, they will be able to talk the Rock into also working WWE programs over the summer. If the Rock is forced to face someone he has already worked with, he will likely work WrestleMania & Backlash and then leave.

Didn't it say that The Rock is more excited about working with other talent though?

Keep in mind the source.

Knowing The Rock I'm sure this story is probably BS but if it is then I will admit Rocky is starting to get a bit of a big head

Its been reported elsewhere (in the Entertainment world) that the Rock is becoming hard to work with.

Move over HHH. The 'net is about to turn on the Rock.

Isn't it a beautiful thing?

I'm mainly bitter not AT the Rock, just how the WWE treats him as their biggest star. For the past few years they have openly chosen to treat him as a bigger star than Steve Austin. The legends match should have been Austin vs. Hogan - not Rock vs. Hogan. It should be Goldberg vs. Austin this Wrestlemania. Hogan made wrestling in the 80's, but Austin made it in the 90's. He has made Vince more money, and single handidly gave him the chance to monopolize North America.

Do every single one of your posts have to be something against the internet, smarks or something like that in general.

You're always like: This is not true. Oh let's blame HHH again.

It's kinda getting a little old.

Banky-

I didn't know that. About Austin v. Hogan- I think Austin turned down the match but I agree that it should be Austin v. Goldberg not Rock v. Goldberg

Austin didn't want to work with Hogan becuase he knew the match would be shitty.

Yes, though--Rock gets treatment more suited to Austin, but out of all of the things wrong with WWE, that's the furthest thing from my mind to complain about.

So, lemme get this straight, ONE person on the entire roster is likely eager to see him in WWE in any capacity, so Vince will pay the big fat costs he wants?

Fuck that.

Well, I am sure Helldorado will tank anyways...So that shall curb his ego.

I am starting to feel the murmurs of a Rocky Backlash here...

You mean Summerslam didn't do that for you already?

I never knew they offered the Hogan match to Austin. Why did he think him against Hall would be any better?

All I am saying is that Rocky is good, but Austin deserves better than him. He is the greatest WWE superstar ever, and I'd say he is the best North American wrestling star ever - by means of working, interviews, drawing, and merchandizing. This guy was unreal.

Austin turned down the match with Hogan because he KNEW the crowd would be pro Hogan.

And to stop this before it starts... because I know someone always brings it up, Austin does NOT HATE HOGAN. I've seen this discussed everywhere whenever Hogan and Austin's name is mentioned in the same sentence in relation to a match. For proof, check out the PWTorch Torchtalk interview with Austin right after he was fired from WCW and went to ECW. He says that he doesn't have a beef with Hogan, he just was very skeptical on if he could still draw. He also said that Hogan tried hard to fit in with the boys

How much is WWE paying Rock now?

I say if he refuses to work, fire his ass.

That can't happen... when Rock is under contract with WWE, Vince gets a percentage of every movie he makes. Plus, when used properly, he's the company's last cashcow (until Austin arrives that is.)

I think he meant among smarks. There's always been undertones of a backlash among marks (hell, I don't think it's ever really gone away 100% since the Rocky Maivia days), but smarks have generally respected Rock, even if they weren't exactly fans of his.

Of course, this is just more evidence that the Rock heel turn will do quite well when it happens--he'll be a legit heel to everybody.

EternallyLazy:

I don't think so; I'm willing to bet that the crowd would have been at least 60/40 in favor of Austin, rather than 90/10 Hogan like it was in the Rock match. Rock is like Hogan--fans turn on him easily; against faces, tweeners, heels, it doesn't matter. Fans have never displayed any inkling of turning on Austin, though.

Ah but this was a different situation. First off, Canada is Hogan country and always has been. Second, Hogan was making his first WrestleMania appearance in almost a decade and the fans knew it... that and his "legend" aura is why they continued to cheer him even after he was introduced into the WWF as a heel. Also, watch WM again and watch the crowd when Austin comes out for his match with Hall... and then watch the crowd when Hogan comes out for his match with Rock. Big difference. The Skydome's roof nearly blew off with Hogan.

To be fair Austin's pop was ruined after the heel turn. He just never quite recovered it all.

Yeah, that Rock, what a prick.

Let's see....what to do.

Spend most of my days making films in Hollywood, for millions of dollars, OR....

....come back to the WWE, which is one huge clusterfuck of a mess, and wrestle against the same guy who I've already fought about a million times before because the WWE is unable or unwilling to push more than, say, one new star per year (and most times, that star is shuffled back down into the midcard *coughJerichocough*).

What to do....

Yeah, that Rock, what a bastard for not wanting to give up his blossoming film career to fight Undertaker for the nth time.

Sorry, I just don't understand the backlash.

If Rock is going to be a fuck about wrestling, have him come back and job clean to a bunch of guys. Fuck him for becoming a big head.

Eh? When Rocky was becoming a main eventer smarks were pissed since he went to a 5-move move set and was doing his crappy spit-punches. Since he's gotten so big he doesn't have to stick to WWE-style so much, but it's still a far cry from the days when his ring work sucked, but he'd try different things all the time.

Whatever happened to his Hurracanrana? The Cross Body? Even the Layin' the Smack Down DDT? He hasn't done them in years still, but he used to make a special effort to pull out innovative moves. Then he only tried to come up with new catchphrases. He doesn't do either now.
