Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 17, 2003 I'm begining to think that WWE enjoyes making me feel like a moron for even watching their product at times. Actually, I sometimes feel they are TRYING to get all of the die hard fans to leave them for good, in order for their fan base to ONLY be that of casual fans and the such. I feel like they are trying to replace me, you, and all of us, and they should NOT make a one of us feel that way. Do you think there is even a CHANCE of them WANTING to have the fans of old, us die hard fans, to leave the sport, in order to have a fan base of only casual fans, those who watch this like nothing more like just another sitcom or soap? Sincerely, ...Downhome...
Guest Choken One Report post Posted January 17, 2003 Well, That makes no sense, so that must be what WWE is doing.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted January 17, 2003 No, no chance at all. They know casual fans' interest wavers, and they don't return once they've left. Just because the product sucks doesn't mean WWE is trying to shoot themselves in the head.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted January 17, 2003 No. If they're trying to drive diehard fans away why are they having great matches every week on SD!?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted January 17, 2003 Wasn't it said that they are trying to kill only Raw so they can get a bigger deal on UPN with Smackdown? Maybe they are making it suck just so Shane can be heareled a Hero and Savior for revitalizing the product?
Guest creativename Report post Posted January 17, 2003 I sometimes feel they are TRYING to get all of the die hard fans to leave them for good, in order for their fan base to ONLY be that of casual fans and the such. What in the world makes you think that if the diehard fan doesn't want to watch this crap, that a casual fan actually would? It'd be the other way 'round, if anything...but, in all likelihood, diehard and casual fans probably come and go in an almost perfectly correlated fashion. At first glance you might think that diehards will stay longer than casuals, but certainly in the dark ages of the mid-90's, both casual fans and diehards stopped watching in droves. I do agree though that it seems as if the WWE constantly does actions which only make sense when viewed under the context that they are intentionally trying to piss off their fanbase. WWE logic, I guess...
LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2003 Uuuum.......that would make no sense because the die hard fans are the ones that stick with them through the good AND bad. Casual fans will leave after a couple weeks or months of bad programming.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 17, 2003 I know this makes no sense, that's my f'n point, it's something that it seems like they'd do. God knows SOMETHING must be going the hell on, because I just can't believe that the McMahons are sitting there thinking what they are doing will work, it hasn't for about two years now! They seem to be wanting to put more and more shit like we'd see on some sort of soap, but a second rate version of that crap. Sometimes I honestly feel that they wish to start catering to the casul fans, in hopes that there is more people out there that would want to watch THAT type of product, than there are true fans of Pro. Wrestling wishing to see a wrestling show.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted January 17, 2003 than there are true fans of Pro. Wrestling wishing to see a wrestling show. Explain Smackdown then. Aside from Torrie-Dawn-Al there are great matches seemingly every week

Aside from Torrie-Dawn-Al there are great matches seemingly every week You know, some of you guys take everything way to seriously. I don't TRULY think he's trying to do this, it just FEELS that way sometimes. You must admit that at least. Smackdown has indeed been having great matches, but if you haven't been able to tell, more and more week after week, it's begining to have more and more of a feel of a RAW episode, especially tonight. Besides from the main event on that show or very upper card and the cruisers, the rest is very poor right now. It takes more than a main event to make a show. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted January 17, 2003 I'm watching the replay right now and I've enjoyed the show. There were some good matches, some funny rapping and so far the main event is kicking ass. I have only felt that way once and that was when BookDust jobbed to 3MW. Other then that I don't think they're trying at all. How am I taking what you said seriously? You started a called 'Is WWE trying to replace us' and I am saying no. Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted January 17, 2003 On a good-to-bad ratio, it seems SD gets more and more shitty every week. However, that has nothing to do with trying to "replace" us. It's just general incompetence by those in charge.

I was just being half way sarcastic, as it's what it FEELS like to me. Something about SD really felt like RAW to me, even though it still had a couple of pretty good matches on it. I enjoyed seeing Rikishi loose by the way, bwahahahaha.
Guest HHHater Report post Posted January 17, 2003 I remember when the WWF was actually a wrestling company. Sure, Vince was more of a merchandiser than a wrestling promoter, but the focus was on wrestling. Now we have to put up with this soap opera garbage. Do I have a problem with "sports entertainment"? Hell no. When it's done right - i.e. the Austin and Pillman gun angle - it can be highly, highly entertaining and add interest to the matches. But this Dawn-Al-Torrie bullshit has NO redeeming value and no payoff. Are Dawn and Torrie going to have an Iron Man match at WrestleMania? Are the WRESTLING fans going to get ANYTHING from this mess? No. So why the fuck are they polluting my TV screen with this shit? I've wanted to smack Vince around ever since the first time that I watched Beyond The Mat, and he sits behind his desk with that smug look on his face and says, "We make movies." NO, you don't fucking make movies, you are a WRESTLING company. At least you are supposed to be. Someday, Vince is going to realize that the ONE thing that he's good at is promoting wrestling, that his side projects like WBF, XFL, WWE Films, etc. all blow, and he's going to quit turning away viewers with these soap/shock TV segments that add nothing to the product. Well, I should say I *hope* he realizes that.
LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2003 The problem is the jack ass named Vince thinks everything he thinks of will be gold......but, he seems to forget WBF, XFL, and even Smackdown records which is losing all their artists......genius my ass! Just step aside Vince and give control to someone who is in touch with the fanbase and will focus on wrestling like Paul Heyman, or even Jim Cornette. Step aside, man....before your company goes to the shitter
Guest HHHater Report post Posted January 17, 2003 The only McMahon that I have any faith in from a creative standpoint is Shane. Steph doesn't know shit, Linda is a cyborg, and Vince is senile.
Guest GameCop Report post Posted January 17, 2003 You Know, Downhome may be right. Remember the match of the decade nominees on RAW X? J. Hardy vs. Undertaker, TLC VEGAS, Austin vs. Kane -- these are matches that casual fans would enjoy, as opposed to hardcore fans.
Guest creativename Report post Posted January 17, 2003 The only McMahon that I have any faith in from a creative standpoint is Shane. Steph doesn't know shit, Linda is a cyborg, and Vince is senile. I doubt Shane is really all that great either, however I do have more faith in him than the rest of his family. If for no other reason than unlike the others, he hasn't been proven a complete failure yet. J. Hardy vs. Undertaker, TLC VEGAS, Austin vs. Kane -- these are matches that casual fans would enjoy, as opposed to hardcore fans. I doubt that. I think most people did enjoy the Raw TLC match, as a TV match (marks and smarks alike)...of course, I seriously doubt any marks or smarks would be content with that as the choice for Raw match of the decade. And the fans in attendance were let down by the anti-climactic Kane going over finish as well (they were rooting their hearts out for RVD). And the Taker-Hardy match being nominated was just an abomination. The crowd wasn't even all that hot for that match either...they got somewhat excited at some spots, but not too much. It was mostly a boring match, and the WWE's fascination with it seems incomprehensible. I don't think this has anything to do with smarks and marks.
