The Nathan Jones push

Recommended Posts

Guest Just call me Dan

It's pretty obvious Nathan Jones, crappy wrestler or not, is going to be heavily built up very, very soon. He'll be pushed hard, it seems, like Lesnar and now, Batista.

If you ask me, Lesnar was a success. I enjoy him now, and I like his PPV matches that aren't squashes. I realize I won't see Brock in a 30 minute match with anyone on Smackdown, so I don't get pissed when he squashes people. I already knew it was coming.

Batista, he just sucks, if you ask me. Great look, but his offense is horrible right down to the punches, save a nice stiff clothesline every once in a while.

Thing is, they kind of went through the same thing. I call it "going through the motions". Watch Bill DeMott's current agenda. Now you remember. Just squashing guys left and right for about 2 or 3 months. We all know what's going to happen (probably not with DeMott). Those guys will eventually win something big and move on to bigger feuds where they will stay.

Well, I am about sick of watching hosses "go through the motions". I say if Jones is going to be top tier soon, give him a big grand feud to start off with. If he's going to be crammed down our throats, he should just get to the point and start big. I don't want to see him run over Tajiri, Spike, The Hardyz, or D'Lo. If he's going there, put him there.

How do you think his entrance into the federation will be handled? Are we doomed to see another 10 minutes of each show given to someone "going through the motions" and being groomed for the big time? Or does Jones come in and go after the big game just in time for Wrestlemaina?

What's your call?

No stupid cruiser squashes. He needs to come in and go right for the Undertaker, preferably getting a win at WM.

If nothing else, he sounds like he has mic skill, so this Mankind meets Jake Roberts character should be entertaining.

I absolutely agree, if the charatcer is done right, he should be entertaining, as his viginettes are. So you think he wants a piece of the Undertaker? Could be. I actually can't even begin to think who he's going to be put up against quite yet. His character isn't really a foil to anyone in the WWE as of now because everyone plays their "just being myself" characters now. We'll see what happens from here.

Personally, I don't give a damn how good his workrate is. The gimmick looks entertaining. WWE has enough workers, they need some interesting characters. Of course, the workrate freaks are gonna bitch, but screw them. Not everything can be about workrate. These are the same no-fun people who are like, "Who cares if The Undertaker comes back as the Dead Man? He'll still be sluggish! Wah, wah, wah!" Like anybody is saying that Mark Calloway will morph into a luchadore if he reverts to his Dead Man gimmick. No, we just thought it would be COOL from an entertainment standpoint.

I support Jones already.

This gimmick they have given him has definately caught my attention . The promo they aired on Smackdown last night was kinda funny because at first they just showed the rat and my old man was like "woah is this guy a rat ? " Yes I agree that if they want to bring him in and have him be the force that they are pushing him to be that a fued and a win over an established upper level star would be the way to go . An Undertaker V. Jones fued could actually be entertaining .

I have No problem with this Gimmick yet. I just don't see Jones, or O'Haire for that matter, being great promo guys and being able to pull off thier Gimmicks at first. It's gonna be up to WWE Writers and Production team to carry the ball with these guys until they get into a grove with the Characters.

I never thought of Jones/Taker Feud. That could be good I guess. Both need to come to Raw though.

You guys nailed it on the head when you said he needs to be brought in and immediately go after one of the big boys. I think that's what made ManKind so successfull. When he first entered he had 2 or 3 sqaushes against jobbers , but then went right after the Taker. With several wins over the Taker he looked legit cause he was the first guy ever to get the better of Taker fo so long. Nathan Jones needs to come in and go right after Taker, and Taker better dam well put him over preferrebly at WMIX if they want this guy to be a major player in the future.

If I recall right, Jones is a really good promo guy.

If he can incorporate some really badass moves that nobody else does, then I think he could become a top player eventually. If not, he'll be stuck doing nothing for 3 years until they give him the Big Show Miracle Push™.

Being a good worker really won't seem to fit his gimmick, either. He's a brawler, like all big guys, which fits his persona. So not only is the character interesting, it covers up a weakness somewhat.

Anyway, this guy fucking rules. I hope he still has the nasty teeth, too.

Actually, the UT/Mankind feud was much closer than we look back at it being. If i remeber correctly, every time they met after Buried Alive.

The seocond thing is, have him start a huge feud with Dead man Taker. This is perfect, the characters completely completment each other.

I already love his gimmick, and if they pull it off the right way, it could become one of my top favorite gimmicks of all time.

I've seen him wrestle in a short match, WWE dark match (I have it on my computer, I'll send it to anyone who wants it, it's a short download) and I see quite a few things in him in ring wise, which shows potentional...

1) He's got a great look, very intimidating looking.

2) He is very quick in the ring, he is no slouch at all.

3) He is not afraid to "bump". He looks to me like someone who would be wlling to be a company guy, and really take part in some crazy matches.

4) Every move he does, is simply insense. Even in the dark match, he got no reaction at the begining because the fans didn't know who he was, but by the end, they are popping for his every move.

5) He has offense unlike most fans have ever seen before. Again, the crowd will eat this up like crazy.

6) He looks to be in fantastic shape, and would be able to "go the distance" in a longer than usual match.

...not to mention that I totally LOVE his speaking from what I've heard so far. It's different, something most of us are not really used to in Pro. Wrestling, and could go along with his insane gimmick, perfectly.

I'm excited for his debut, I really am. Many just call him "another big guy", but people, this is Pro.Wrestling. There always has, and always will be a place in this sport for some of them. He has a lot of potential, and I see him changing a lot of minds quicly.

Even Percy Pringle likes this guy, his "scouting report" said most of what I've listed above, but he also said that he was very green in the WWA (or whereever it was, I forget). In those matches, he seriously was just getting started in the business, he had yet to get experiance under his belt. It'll take time for him to have that seasoned feel to him, but it'll happen in no time.

Don't judge him, untill you've seen him again, as if the only things you've seen of him so far is that other fed, then it's just not fair, he was green, hadn't been doing it all that long enough to learn everything that he will ultimately. I've never seen a debut match which had the performer being at their peak, not even Kurt Angle was at his peak in his debut match. Just give it time, I think he at least deserves that from all of us fans.

In time mate.......In time

I know it isn't much, but I FUCKING LOVE THAT!

I'm really pumped up for him. He looks like he will be the type of guy to produce that type of "big man" offense and matches, that will get over with just about everyone.

He's damn scary looking when you see him next to another person...he's bigger than he looks in those promos. As far as look goes, he's there.

Downhome, me too....when i hear the "In time mate" there's just something about the way he says it that's very eerie. I'm pumped to see this guy too and they've done a fabulous job with his vignettes. His voice is very unique and he's got that evil austrailian accent going.....i'm so pumped for this guy to show up and tear some people apart.

If you ask me, he looks a lot like Brock Lesnar in the ring. Brock will bump his ass off, and is very quick in the ring. We won't see Jones busting out any amateur stuff, but he moves a lot like Lesnar. Take that how you will, but I like Lesnar.

If WWE allows him to use his good mobility and gives him an unique move set he'll probably do well.

If WWE makes him wrestle like a typical hoss then i don't have much hope for him.

Batista is your typical hoss.

Brock is not.

Nathan seems to be leaning more towards Brock, and I surely hope so.

Well, there's one reason to wish Jones and Taker would move to Raw. They need to save Lesnar/Jones as long as they can. Assuming nobody gets injured, someone doesn't permanently retire to Hollywood, or a certain roid freak doesn't inHHHerit the company, that kind of match could be their meal ticket in 2004 or even 2005.

Yeah, it's Hoss vs Hoss, but big deal. Hogan/Andre had nothing in workrate or psychology and it drew like hell.

Sadly though, I don't think Jones would be allowed to look like a strong heel on the same show as Hunter, unless he was going to be set up to be Taker Food, and that's so damn ass-backwards that I don't think even this company would be stupid enough to do that.

I don't think there will be a whole lot of Taker or Hunter food being served up if Austin and Rock return for a while and Angle and Brock holding strong as two of the bigger names in the company right now. Hunter and Taker don't have anyone else left to beat.
