XPW Talent Raids and Christian York

Recommended Posts

Guest subliminal_animal

Okay, first ... what happened to Christian York? Seems to have dropped off the face of the planet to let Joey Matthews go solo.

And now to main thing. So far, who has XPW signed away from CZW, ROH and 3PW? I know Prohibition, M-Dogg (don't they have new individual names now?), Joey Matthews and Justice Pain. Have there been any more? And do the deals these guys get make them exclusive to XPW, at least in the Philly area, or do their old promotions just sever off ties with them by themselves?

I don't think Matthews is exclusive to XPW by any means. Youthanazia (Matt and Josh, the former M-Dogg and Prohibition) and Justice Pain are surely XPW exclusive now, due to the backlash they're jumps recieved. Boogalou I think was stolen from ROH as well, but has he even done anything in XPW yet?

I'm sure they can all work elsewhere, but I doubt they can work in any other of the three Philly promotions. In ROH, Matthews was the clear leader of Special K one week, and then he's suddenly dropped with no mention in favor of Dixie.

I think ROH made an announcement after XPW was making plans to raid that anyone who no-shows the next show is gone or something, as XPW was running opposite them, I believe. Boogalou no-showed and was fired, and I think most people assumed it was because he jumped to XPW. But I'm pretty sure he hasn't ever appeared with them, which must mean something else was up.

I wish someone knew what happened. Oh, and then told me what happened.

I had heard (I believe from RF's own website) that XPW was interested in Homicide and Boogalou, and RF got wind of it, and said that if they decided to take the offer they would bear no grudges. Homicide and Boogalou both stated they were ROH tried and true, and wouldn't jump, but when showtime came around, Boogalou was nowhere to be found, and it was found out that he went to XPW behind ROH's back. They pretty much wrote it off on RF's site by saying Homicide is more marketable as a solo anyways, and this allows them to utilize him more (which could be why he's been getting a good push in ROH lately).

Matthews I was unaware of his situation. My guess is that working for XPW resulted in bitterness that led him to not be booked with ROH?

There's a "jump" coming up (the guy's only worked for CZW twice) soon to XPW, though I'm not supposed to say the guy's name specifically.

Nope. We can do the whole "20 ?'s" deal, but I'm still not giving out who it is, no offense to you guys.

I don't expect you to breach the trust of the person. I was just under the assumption that since you have an in with Wildside, it may be one of the people that have done appearances for CZW.

Sorry if you took it the wrong way.

No, it's cool.

In fact, here's a couple of more clues. But, if you have an inkling who it is, please don't post his name here.

His last match in CZW was a tag against the H8 Club, and he was in the TPI this year.

(EDIT: He may not debut until next month.)

Straying from the "identity" topic:

In all honesty, I don't mind XPW WRESTLING. As far as Rob Black as a human being goes, I wish as much harm on the man as he has wanted/has caused to others (the dog incident and the rumors of Messiah attack involvment stand out in my mind). For entertainment purposes, especially being a Shane Douglas fan, I do watch XPW videos. I can understand the craving to expand, and the "indy wars" are starting to remind me of the old days, when Vince went out buying people up. One thing that XPW NEEDS to watch out for (in additon to the feet they are stepping on when stealing guys) is that they don't spend their money foolishly. Sure, stealing Youthanazia and giving them the tag straps right away shows they want to push them. Stealing Justice Pain from CZW was a coup, because Pain was a notable entity there. But stealing BOOGALOU from ROH, just to say "Fuck you ROH!" strikes me as pointless. A growing indy fed cannot afford to foolishly spend money just to rub it in the face of a competitor. This is where XPW could go wrong, and then you'll have some actual talent (Dinero and Kaos are the first two who come to mind) that will have a tough time getting a job due to their XPW past.

I definately agree with them just wasting money. I mean, the money they're giving Justice Pain is outrageous. One Wildside guy who I IM'ed about it the other night totally freaked out when he heard about it.

And it is action like overpaying that will cause the company to implode. Judging even purely from response to XPW on this board, not every wrestling fan is as open-minded as me. I try to look past the people behind the scenes, because if I think about how much I hate Rob Black and what he has done, I may miss something great. Morality aside, there is some very good talent in XPW, as well as people I have been a fan of (Douglas). But the fact that they feel "any publicity is good publicity" and the fact that they are so free-spending worries me. Guys like Douglas, Funk, Candido, etc. come with a higher price tag than Justice Pain I'm sure, so if HE'S getting more than a fair share of the profits, imagine what they are getting.

Part of the growth of a company is maintaining a level budget. XPW needs to realize that. They might want to be the next Vince, but they need to MAKE more money before spending more money. A cult audience and home videos will not make you a billionaire overnight.

FUCK! I got it narrowed down to 2 people (they both popped into my head at the same time) and SC, I really wish you were kidding me because both of these wrestlers are very good wrestlers and if it is this "certain" wrestler, I hope the other two don't decide to wrestle with XPW too.

btw, Boogalou DID work for XPW, a few months ago: he was one half of the "Dead Prez" tag team who took on Mexico's Most Wanted. it was him and another guy i never heard of, called "Low Rida". they weren't given individual names, and they wore facepaint like the characters in the movie "Dead Presidents". just thought i'd let y'all know.

If it is who I think it is, can you really blame him?? Gage and Hatred were abnormally stiff with him. CZW is my favorite indy fed, but they know dick about how to treat outside talent.

All the talent raidings and the whole "Philly Wars" are rediculous. Now I understand Rob Black is complete scum, but what promoter isn't. These groups need to reach an agreement before shit gets REALLY bad. I see this stuff leading to real violence.

If you go over to CZWfans.com, you'll notice a lot of people that are sick of this shit too. Hell, some of them even like XPW. Me, I personally don't mind XPW, but I don't think I would buy any of their videos. I actually feel bad for the XPW talent because there are some talented people there, but whoever is in charge keeps doing fucked up shit.

Douglas (if he is really in charge of XPW), Zandig, Meanie and Feinstein need to sit down and work this shit out.

I dont understand it. ROH and CZW can work together to benefit the fans. So why is Rob Black so intent on harming every other promotion and saying screw you to the fans unless they are fans of XPW.

I think it comes down to the fact that he isnt a fan of wrestling, or of the wrestling industry, he is a fan of money.

i think the chances of rob black and zandig sitting down at a table to work out their differences are somewhat less than slim. as for the identity of the latest person to jump, i don't even know what tpi is, but glancing back over the past results i think i can guess who it will be. i briefly shit myself when i saw who h8 club fought at havoc in hellaware, but thankfully that particular team have had doubles matches since then. major panic over.

True, but would the still feel like tha if they knew it were for the good of them both. I think ROb Black believes he can make more money by doing things they way he is now, and so we will never see any sort of co-operation.

BTW, im having some sort of mental block over this mystery identity lol :D

Supposedly $5000 and $600 per show. Read as much truth into that as you will. I dont think anyone knows for sure.

Bob Magee, who reported the money figures, contacted Kevin Kleinrock, who said that though they were a little high, they were about right.

It seems like a lot. But then again, you couldnt exactly live confortably on that amount of money. And by going to XPW your reducing the amount of income you can get.

Yeah Chris Hero in XPW, that would be a bad decision for him.

I'll believe it when I see it!
