XPW AFTERMATH REVIEW

Recommended Posts

Guest EMAXSAUN

HEY, well I went to Viking Hall and took the NYC bus trip to the XPW show. The show was great.

I got on the bus and when we arrived in Philly Lucy and Grimes met us on the bus and I got some autographs and took some pics. Ill post them later.

We went inside for the Q & A and it was a great time. All the wrestlers were cool and told us a lot of neat stuff about the business. During the breaks I talked to Kevin Klienrock, Patrick Hernandez, and Rob Black.

I bought some merch.

Two bands played, the 1st one was good but I don't remember their name, and the 2nd one, Anthrophobia, sucked.

Right before the show started the announced said that The Original Shiek (sabus uncle), just passed away, and did a 10 bell salute.

I talked to some people who were there yesterday and they said that the attendance was at NYR was 300 pushing it, and to my surprise, tonight the arena had more people in it, I counted about 450 and the people who were at the last show said 500. So its like 450-500.

On and XPW has a deal with FYE now for selling all of their tapes at the store or something.

Onto the show:

The order that I have is right, the one that was posted online is not

1: Danny Doring vs. Sonny Siaki

I guess an alright match to open the show up. It had its moments, and the rest was, well, there. Okay match.

2: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match

Very good match. Some sick and innovative moves by YNA and MMW.

3: Chris Candido vs Julio Dinero

Actually pretty good IMO. Candido did a rana and one point which suprised me.

4: Pain vs Supreme

A little dissapointing because this simply was not a deathmatch, and I was hoping for one. It was good though because it featured some good wrestling on both men's parts', and Supreme actually held his own in there.

After the intermission Pogo beat up about 6 people from the XPW ring crew. Didn't care.

5: Angel vs Chris Hamrick

Good match, Hamrick always busts his ass. After the match hamrick and smothers tried to cut Angel's Penis with a pear of gardening shears, but shark boy interrupted and thus the next match stated.

6: Shark Boy vs Tracy Smothers

Decent affair here. Smothers is a great heel and works the crowd well, and Shark Boy was impressive.

7: Malice vs Devon Storm

Shitty ass match here. Malice was just terrible and Devon tried but it still sucked.

8: Jerry Lynn vs The Juice vs Psicosis.

Amazing match that went on for about 30+ minutes. Some innovative double team moves and great action overall.

9: Kaos vs Jonny Storm

Very good match, Storm was incredible.

10: Shane Douglas vs Grimes

Just a brawl, but a fun one. I was literally chasing them around the arena following it. Something cool is that one of the bands earlier in the night broke one of their drumsticks and I picked it up and gave it to douglas and he used it as a weapon on grimes. During the match Douglas stapled a dollar bill to Grimes' lip. It was very bloody. The ending came when Douglas hit a pittsburg plunge off the top rope through 2 tables on the outside.

Overall a good show IMO and I can't really judge it against NYR, cause i wasnt there, but it was better than merry fn x mas i think.

I took some pics and they will be on xpwtv.com tomorrow

I'll just leave u with a pic of me a lizzy: (u wish u were me here :D )

In that pic, I don't think Lizzy knows where the hell she is. Of course, from what she took the night before, it wouldn't surprise me.

Why the hell does CZW and XPW put TLC matches second on their card? Gimmick matches like that are designed to go later in the event. You don't want to overshadow everything else the workers are going to do.

I said in the CZW Live Again thread that I guesstimated that both feds would draw between 400-500. Wondering what emax's thoughts are on that stat.

Cool, I knew Jerry Lynn-Psicosis-Juventud Guerrera would be something special. Do you know when FYE is supposed to start carrying XPW shows? What show would you say has been there best this year? Good review, can't wait to see all of the pictures.

Is XPW starting to become a good fed? Because I know EMAX is an XPW mark and defender, but even he calls XPW on its awful moments...

Uh oh...looks like Angel slept with Lizzy. Black goes after the penis when that happens. Did he leave the show with both thumbs?

I knew Smothers and Hammrick were behind the Messiah attack

I don't know whether your being sarcastic or not :)

I still think it's a horrible idea to make an angle out of that

This may be a really stupid question, but what exactly is the history with Messiah's thumb?

I don't know about you guys, but I'd REALLY like EMAX to elaborate on this.

Messiah...XPW worker.

Till he had sex with Lizzy (the bosses wife)...then he was fired.

He went to CZW and Epic and cut a bunch of anti XPW promos...little while later while he was in his home in California two thugs broke into his house and cut off his thumb...BUT THEY TRIED TO GET HIS PENIS! They didn't thankfully...but they chopped off about 2/3 of his right thumb.

Now they didn't steal anything...they just broke into his house to take his penis and thumb. Who would have it out for the guy enough to try and get his penis?

And Rob Black is a well known piece of shit anyway...I think he did it...so does most of the wrestling world

lol YNA you're humor always amuses me.

i would say 450-500 people there.

my pics will be on xpwtv soon but ill put some at the end of the post as well.

also, the Q + A was a really good idea on XPWs part. there were about 125 fans there but I still enjoyed it because I talked to the XPW workers in between each intermission. There was a table in the ring with some workers and they did 3 of them, and each went an hour, and after fans signed autographs. Also at the Q+A Fonzie and Smothers really went in detail about the business and were really awesome.

About me talking to XPW workers, before the show they were all hanging out so I talked to them about how glad I was that XPW went to the east coast, and then talked about some old school xpw stuff with them. I talked to kevin and rob about possibly helping them out with artwork and stuff cause i go 3d modelling and animation, and am good with Photoshop and PSP.

I tried to post pics here but it said i posted to many so just check out the entire folder of pics!

but i still post of me and rob black (who cut his hair):

oh yeah and i think its a bad idea for xpw to run friday night shows. a lot of people just cant make it on friday night. after hearing that XPW's friday night show was 250 when they were not running against CZW made me nervous because i didnt want the show i was going to have less than 250, but to my surprise, xpw actually drew more, a lot more, about 500. which is crazy cause they ran while czw ran 10 mins away. but at least xpws attendance on the saturday show was just like the month before.

Which means that XPW's either getting better, or people really are dumb to go to the shows...

Even though I am most definitely NOT an XPW fan, I read the reports and do admit their shows have been markedly better since going to Philly.

Part of it is also because XPW signed/already had a lot of guys who are draws in the Philly area- Sandman, Alphonso, Chetti, Jerry Lynn and other ECW alums. The picked up good indy talent in Shark Boy and Jonny Storm, and stole the cornerstones of CZW's midcard (J Pro and M-Dogg) and main event (Justice Pain). So while you definitely can't agree with their business practices, they do have a very sharp eye for talent.

Reports verified by the State Athletic Commision are apparently that XPW reported about 140 paid for friday and 120 paid for sataday. Might be rumours but they seem to be valid despite the fact there were about 450 people there on the Sat (CZW and XPW neck and neck it seems, hopefully CZW will actually promote the next show earlier given they're bringing guys in)

Also they tried to cut the Messiah's dick off with gardening shears which is part of the horrible similarities between XPW's little angle with Hammrick and co

I don't know if having a sharp eye for talent has anything to do with getting the CZW guys.

Pain...Zandig jush pushed his ass to the moon, puts him over everyone for a year and luckly gets the title off him before he splits. I think it was just to hurt CZW more then help XPW.

And the cockmonkey spotmonkey tag team who STOLE MY NAME! I won't miss them.

M Dogg...he's just good for spots, he can't work to save his life. Jo Pro...he could almost be good, but he just comes off funny weighing nothing and trying to be a hardass.

Youth, I'm always amused by your derision of 'spot monkeys' when the guy in your sig is responsible for 5 of the worst offenders of the style.

Yeah, durring training I'm sure Mikey shouted out "Now drop Red on his head 11 times so he can kick out! Thus taking any heat away from any other matches later on in the card."

I mark for Mikey, not the little shits he trained

I dunno, a complete lack of fundamentals would seem to indicate poor training to me. And it's not like Mikey was ever Lou Thesz in the ring.

Teacher cannot be blamed for the way their students go about things all the time...you think Killer told HHH "... and then you gotta make the move on the bosses daughter to secure the top spot in the company."

Mikey's matches were all about spotfests, and I enjoyed them...All the SAT do are spots, and they're ugly matches to watch

Mikey used his spots at times when they were needed, and SOLD HIS ASS OFF. He did more bumping than he did flipping around and doing head-scissors, and he had enough sense of psychology to know how to get fans into a match. Aside from The Amazing Red, none of his trainees are coming close to the level of Mikey.

And I'm a fan of Josh Pro just based on the BYW tapes. Definitely has a lot of potential if he eases back on the hardcore and goes more towards pure wrestling.

Oh come on, that's a little bit harsh.

Sure, Divine Storm suck royally, and the SAT have been more miss than hit the last few months or so, but Red is making steady improvement, and can make a case for being the best junior heavyweight in the US not named AJ Styles. (I consider Lynn more of a heavyweight, for some reason.)

Watch Red/Hidaka from Glory By Honor, and any of the Red/Low Ki matches, or all of his TNA matches except the Kid Kash one, and you'll see.

lol I know it for a fact because some jerk on the czwfans board posted it and when we asked him for proof he never responded. Also, I know someone who works with XPW and have talked with him and he saw the # of comp tickets that they had, and it was only like 25 people who were family friends of xpw or friends of the bands that played that night. So, booooyah! ^_^

Jay, why do you think of Lynn as a heavyweight when Styles (I think) weighs more?

Can't stand Red.

If you watch any typical match with Red and anyone else, he'll get dropped on his head a dozen times and get nailed by moves that should pin heavyweights, and he kicks out every time.

I wouldn't mind just "Red the spotmonkey." But he has to do this babyface kickout shit that guys his size should just not do.

That just takes any believablitiy out of the match and makes the rest of the guys on the card look weak when they lose to a brainbuster or something. He's his worst about this when he's in a match with an SATer or Brian XL, or the ungodly overrated Divine Storm.
