Guest creativename Report post Posted January 21, 2003 The whole Austin thing is very anti-climactic...they should have just had him come back at the Rumble; what difference does a month make? It's not like an extra month is going to help his conditioning or something. Why wait? That way, not only do you have more time to build towards Mania, but the amount of interest you spark by his sudden, unexpected return is much higher and better for business in the long run. (Oh, and Angle is God, you should try to crop or obscure that "I am a big testicle" sign in the corner of you sig...really ruins the image. Great image otherwise though )
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted January 21, 2003 I could tell the crowd was annoyed. The booing made me cry. I've never heard such hostility.
Guest TheBostonStrangler Report post Posted January 21, 2003 As nice as it would have been, it makes NO sense to bring him back without notice. The WWE knows they can make money off Austin's return, and bringing him back with weeks of hype is the way to do it. It would be borderline insane not to do that, even if the moment would be better that way.

I'm not going to rehash the arguments here, because they were posted elsewhere, but I am pretty confident in saying that WWE would make more money in the long run with a surprise Austin return than a hyped up one. Guest Mole Report post Posted January 21, 2003 Geez fellas, you really think that Vince would bring SCSA back not announced? Of course they are going to bring him back at a PPV, it builds supense to what brand he is going to join(cause we KNOW that is where this is going to lead). I for one can wait for him to come back, then build something for Mania.
Guest Super Pissed Smark Report post Posted January 21, 2003 Yeah, which brand Austin's going to could turn out to be the most compelling storyline in the history of wrestling. I fucking hate Vince, I just fucking hate him.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted January 21, 2003 I just hope Steph's bombshell ain't Austin. It'd be cooler if she said "You've got Austin! Well I'm bringing The Rock back!!"
Guest Mole Report post Posted January 21, 2003 Yeah, Mighty, I think that is what is going to happen. Then they are going to have a bait and switch, with Rock going to Raw and Austin going to Smackdown.
Guest The Amazing Rando Report post Posted January 21, 2003 Frankly......I still don't care... Sure...even I was feeling it tonight when I watched...even I wanted to hear that glass shatter and see him come out....last night I wanted it too...and I wanted it at RAW X...and I've been waiting for that day since he left... but as of right now...I could care less... Aren't we the ones complaining about not pushing new stars like RVD, Booker, etc? Sure Smackdown is doing great with the Smackdown 6 and Team Angle and such...but RAW has none of that... now they are going to bring in an old main eventer and we will just see the same thing we have been seeing for the past three years...only that Austin may just be a shell of his former self, like HHH turned out to be, and Steiner always was...but we don't know until it actually happens...IF it actually happens... I don't care if he comes back...I would makr out just like almost everyone....but I want to see the Upper Midcard look like more than the HHH Show and more like it should...with the people the fans want to see....not the people the WWE thinks we want to see... Whether he comes back or whether it is Vince burying him...either way it won't change a single thing... something needs to happen in the WWE...and I think that we need a lot more than Austin to fix the gigantiic holes in the sinking ship... Guest Super Pissed Smark Report post Posted January 21, 2003 Yeah, Rando, that about sums it up. Austin's going here, Rock's going there, and who gives a flying fuck? Plus la change, plus la meme chose, or something like that, my Japanese is a little rusty.
Guest Mole Report post Posted January 21, 2003 Well, I want to see Austin back because he is the fuckin man.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted January 21, 2003 Someone else put it perfectly... My dream scenario of Austin's return. - Vince calls Austin out in the No Way Out PPV. - Vince allows crowd to absorb Austin and his poses in the ring. - Vince reminds Austin he walked out on the WWE. - VINCE'S FACE TURNS RED AND SHOUTS " WE DON'T NEED YOU ANYMORE. THIS AIN'T A STORYLINE BALDIE. YOU'RE FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIREDDDD" Bottom Line : They should bring Austin back to fire him publicly.
Guest Super Pissed Smark Report post Posted January 21, 2003 Uh, yeah, fire Austin publicly, great idea. It's not like fans love him a lot more than they do Vince. Or Rock. Or Trips. Or anyone else on the roster. Or anyone else in the history of the roster. They certainly don't chant "We want Austin" or anything like that. There certainly wasn't a palpable anticipation in the arena when it seemed like Bischoff was about to bring him out on RAW. And they were boo-ing, not because he wasn't there, but they were all offended at the idea that an ingrate like Austin would even be invited back. Yeah, that's it. On top of that, the timing would be impeccable, at the pay per view, in Montreal. You know fans love Vince more there than any where else and it's not like he would face the possibility of a riot or anything. No, I'm sure if Vince made it perfectly clear that this wasn't a storyline, and Austin was really fired, they'd cheer him, hell, even hoist him on their shoulders and carry him around the city. They would not dump him in the river. They would understand. I'm sure. Actually, really, publicly firing and humiliating his biggest star ever, and alienating all his fans would fit in very well with Vince's two-year (and counting) orgy of self-destruction. And it would stop people from posting all the "Can Vince possibly do anything stupider" threads, at least for a while. Excellent idea, Triple-H thinks so too, and I hear they're always hiring. Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted January 21, 2003 From now until Austin returns. During every Triple H main event the crowd should chant, "We Want Austin"
Guest EricMM Report post Posted January 21, 2003 Rando the problem is this: No one on RAW HASN'T been buried, all of it's Main Event Superstars have all lost to HHH. It's gotten to the point where the crowd only cares when someone new comes in because then MAYBE he'll have a chance to beat HHH, the perfect example being Steiner. RVD, Jericho, etc. have had months to get a push and become main event superstars. Months and more months. They have not.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted January 21, 2003 From now until Austin returns. During every Triple H main event the crowd should chant, "We Want Austin" They already do that. Except they just ruin promos by going "Whuuuut? Whuuut?" like trained dogs. SPS, I've never liked Austin, and I know (and you secretly know) that he won't do fuck-all to restore ratings. He's worth 3 good buyrates at most. If they want to take advantage of those buyrates, go ahead. But I bet he'll only continue the Parade O' Shit that we've seen lately, and so Vince might as well and go ahead and take advantage of Montreal to do what he ought to have done last year. =b
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted January 21, 2003 And just to emphasize my point, these are the three matches that could pop a good buyrate: * Austin vs Angle * Austin vs Benoit * Austin vs Lesnar The last Austin/Taker sucked unbelievably hard. Slugs like Batista would have to be carried. Austin/Steiner would be like watching the walking wounded on display and would be a disaster. Austin/HHH was done to death over the past few years. Austin/Hogan is pure novelty match. Guys like Matt Hardy will be driven out of the company before Austin would seriously work with them.
Guest TUS_02 Report post Posted January 21, 2003 The thing is this.... you have to remember that Austin is on probation down in Texas... he has to have permission to leave the state, which was probably the reason he didn't show up for RAW X or The Rumble. And saying that he's been "invited" to show up at NWO saves everyones ass in case something gets fucked up probation wise.
Guest TheGame2705 Report post Posted January 21, 2003 Damn if my hometown crowd could have been anymore quiet I'd think it was an empty arena RAW. I mean the matches and segments were boring as fuck but the dead crowd really added to it. I fell asleep during RAW at the beginning and woke up for Jericho "hitting" Stacy with a chair. I knew she hadn't been that close but I was hoping desperately something happened.

Plus la change, plus la meme chose, or something like that, my Japanese is a little rusty. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. And yes, your Japanese is a bit rusty. And just to add to the cliché count, if you keep looking to the past, you'll have nothing to look forward to. I mean, did you hear the pops for Booker T during that useless tag match with Jamal and Rosey (who, according to JR, are now 3 Count)? You've got a solid main eventer RIGHT THERE! Use him, for fuck's sake. My head aches with the stupidity that this company dishes out.

Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted January 21, 2003 Last night, I dreamt that Stephanie's bombshell was the return of Foley to take her job as GM, and that Austin came out with him for some reason. Anyways, I don't care about their ratings improving(no Neilsen box) or their buyrates going up(I've gone to sports bars from Unforgiven onwards). All I care about at this point is being entertained. Austin can entertain me, so I want him back. Not for the political stuff, not for elevation of people, just so I can be entertained.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted January 21, 2003 They'll just do the exact same thing they did at backlash 2000 where he didn't show till the end, killing everyone in the time-honoured fashion. Except with Eric and Steph in loads of parking lot segments waiting for him. Yawn.

It's not like an extra month is going to help his conditioning or something. Why wait? The Royal Rumbel is usually one of the higher rated PPV's buyrate wise, it would have been pointless, business wise, to through Austin on there. No Way Out however, that's a PPV that would work nicely with an Austin redebut. I still wouldn't be suprised if Austin did NOT show up at NWO, giving us some sorry excuse. It would work storyline anyway. Wouldn't this PPV be the last WWE show for Bishoff before his time is up? It would make sense for Austin to not be at the PPV, and instead show up at the RAW the next night, coming out right after Vince gives controll to Shane. To make up for no Austin, The Rock could show up for Steph to make her look that much stronger, but promptly turn heel.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted January 21, 2003 I would laugh my ass off if Austin got fired publically but announcing his return for a ppv is the smartest idea business wise
