Guest tank_abbott Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 I read a SK rant where he said this was the only legit arm wrestling tourney in Pro Wrasslin History... What were the brackets , and who won it?
Guest Youth N Asia Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 I'll be damned if I can remember the brackets...I remember Heavy Metal Van Hammer winning one though
Guest IPCRivalSchools Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 The 1993 version was won by Van Hammer - the brackets can be found at prowrestlinghistory.com. All I can remember from my world-wide viewage is that they used the Van Hammer/Vinnie Vegas match to set up their TV Title Tournament QF the following week. And I remember another one posiibly from early '94 when Vader beat Ice Train in the final. Ian
Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 I never saw the first annual tounament, but I saw much of the 2nd annual one, and it went something like this: First Round: Ice Train def. Steve Austin (Yeah, that's fair) ?Equalizer? def. ??? Vader def. ??? Bulldog def. ??? Semifinals: Vader def. Bulldog after Rude attacked Bulldog before the match Ice Train def. Equalizer Finals: Vader def. Ice Train (I think Vader won, never saw it but I assumed that's what happened)
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 I remember hearing on WCW Nitro about how Scott Norton was a legit Arm Wrestling champion, like world class or something. Of course, TONY SCHIAVONE was the one who mentioned it, so take that with just a wee bit of salt...
cawthon777 Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 I saw a good bit of the 92 tourney. I remember Van Hammer beat then-world champion Ron Simmons in the semis after Ron beat Steve Austin. I think Tony Atlas was supposed to be a big favorite in there too. From 93, I remember the Bulldog / Vader bout and Rude jumping Davey before the contest. This was right after the November Clash of the Champions where Davey issued a challenge for Rude's world title. As I remember, that was the last time Davey was on WCW tv. A week or two later, they were supposed to fight on Saturday Night (in addition to Starrcade) but the Big Bossman came out instead as Davey had been let go. But they played up the injury angle, saying the no show at SN had to do with Rude injuring his arm.
Guest NoSelfWorth Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 The tournaments were both works.
