THIS is how to handle a title reign

I'm loving this. As long as they keep giving Angle CLEAN WINS over faces on Smackdown, it will make him look super-strong heading towards Wrestlemania.

I'm proud of WWE, if they keep this up, I'll forgive them for ever taking the title off Angle :)

BTW, Awesome finish in that Angle/Rey match.

Bah. Heels shouldn't win clean often over faces. It's okay to do it sometimes or over weaker opponents but when the faces are at the top of the card also it's counterproductive to have them lose cleanly.

Angle wearing the hoodie like a boxing champion was awesome. He should keep doing it.

I am diametrically opposed to this philosophy.

Is it just me, or was it awesome to see Heyman serving as Angle's manager? That worked out really nicely.

I didn't really love that match though. Alot of awkward shit.

Well then tell me why you are opposed to it.

I liked the finish a lot. And I really liked it when Angle caught Rey in mid-619.

If they build Angle up as a huge heel that wins cleanly, I feel it will be easier for him to turn face later this year.

I'm opposed because building a strong heel automatically makes stronger faces.

If, like you suggested, Angle had to stab Rey 18 times, break a chair, cane and title belt over his head, and pin him with his feet on the ropes in a super fast count, then the beatdown afterwards wouldn't be as good.

As am I. I'm actually opposed to many of the "must's" in Pro. Wrestling.

I think it's awesome they're making Angle look a strong champion in preparation for Wrestlemania. Too bad they couldn't do the same for Jericho last year.

I didn't Suggest that Sault. Not at all.

Supershit said "Clean" win. I don't think a heel should win clean normally.

Also a heel doesn't have to do a immense amount of cheating to win either. It doesn't take alot to say...use the tights for leverage or to put your feet on the ropes.

Or even have one of Team Angle hold down his opponents legs so he can't kick out.

Sorry I thought we were going back to 1st title reign Angle.

Or, you could build him up as an arrogant son of a bitch who can back it up, and have the fans screaming for him to finally slip up. Like they are doing.

Yes they can. But I wasn't applying my statement JUST to Angle. It's just a general rule. As long as they do it correctly than it's okay.

The problem is doing it so that the faces aren't made to look weaker and thus ruin the illusion that they have a chance to win in the fan's eyes.

Well, the have Superman waiting in the wings anyway, but who has looked bad in a loss?

No one in the angle series of matches yet. Though I haven't watched the Rey match yet since i missed the early showing here and am just watching the show now.

I loved Angle going over clean against Benoit and Mysterio, really makes the matches better rather then pulling the predictable shit.

HHH won matches clean in 99 and 00, and I think it got him over more as a heel. And his matches were pretty good back then.

And I can handle cheating more then a run in...if the guy or his manager cheats to help him it's good for the heel, but run ins have been too overused the last few years.

I was getting tired of the same old cheat to win tactics regardless of who was in them. I like that the heavyweight champ can beat someone who isn't the top contender. Sure, cheat to win against a Brock or a Benoit, but someone small like a Mysterio or another mid-carder he should be able to beat clean. If you want to elevate a Mysterio then you can still do so by making it harder to get the pin, but getting the pin clean should still be used.

I agree with this. For the first time in a long while the title match seems like the culmination of a long amount of time and effort rather than a rushed 5 week feud. Right now, Lex Luthor has control of Metropolis as lessar heroes attempt to unseat him. They fail, and the city calls on it's greatest champion.

THIS is epic stuff. THIS is what wrestling can be at it's best : Lowbrow pop mythology. We're about to see two titans do battle for the first time in the greatest event in wrestling. Hell, all we need is a John Williams soundtrack for the vidoe package and you have a comic book movie.

I can't see why people are complaining about an Angle loss. Angle hasn't been so outstanding as champ that he would make me consider breaking the tried-and-true "good prevails" formula at WrestleMania. Brock on the other hand, is supported *rabidly* by the fans , and they can't wait for his next reign to begin.

Angle is being built up so that when he falls... it will be all the sweeter.
