Shannon Moore

Okay, time to call out the Shannon Moore defenders one more time, because I'm having a hard time trying to justify him getting all this exposure.

Granted, this program with Matt Hardy is pretty entertaining, but only on Mattitude's part. Stick any budding cruiser in Moore's place and it would probably be that much funnier. Moore is just not holding up his end. He's got no in-ring charisma. Although he's got high-flying moves, they seem tacked on and pointless, not to mention repetitive (somersault neckbreaker, tumbleweed, lather, rinse, repeat). During his bout last night, he completely ignored the two minutes or so of Nunzio's armwork. And when Matt lambasted him backstage, his feeble attempts at emoting fear and/or determination were undermined by his goofy face. He looked like he was always on the verge of giggling like a schoolgirl.

I know a lot of this push rests on his former association with Matt in OMEGA, but this kid is borrrrrrring. Hell, Nunzio did 10x the acting that Moore did in his backstage segment, and all he did was talk like his normal self. When the eventual blowoff between master and servant happens, can you see Moore displaying the righteous indignation it takes to get the crowd behind him?

I don't.

To quote boxing legend Roberto Duran, "No más."

Translation: "No Moore."

When they did the first backstage skit, did Moore walk into the women's bathroom?

Oh Moore, sucks. But he is being used to the best of his abilities in this role. You just know when the breakup up occurs and after the inevitable feud with Matt he is going to be buried. It happens to everybody. Hell, it happened to Virgil and he was probably the most over of anyone in this type of angle.

Better to waste Moore than someone good.

Since I bitch and moan about this stuff, I guess I ought to rise to the occasion.

I woudn't defend Shannon anymore than I'd defend, say, Jeff Hardy. Actually, strike that, I probably would, because Jeff looks terrible, and not only are his spots as repetative as Shannon's, but they're usually blown left and right, too.

But if Jeff Hardy can get chance after chance after chance, and sell quite a few Hardyz pendants while doing almost no talking at all... Well, forgive me if I dont believe you need to be Mr. Charisma to be over at the midcard stage.

Your main points of bitching seem to be issues directly addressed in the angle itself. Billy Kidman had a promo a few weeks ago laughing about how interviewing Matt & Shannon is about the same as interviewing Matt by himself. Matt prompted him to speak in this week's interview, the camera zoomed in for the big quote, and he just shrugged his shoulders while making a kind of an "hnf" noise.

There's a diferrence between Steve Austin's Ringmaster never ever being given the mic and an angle where they intentionally point out a guy's silence.

And let's get this out of the way, the angle isn't meant to get Shannon over, it's meant to get Matt over. And anyone with above average mic skills probably wouldn't be able to save things anyway. Let's admit that, as funny as the Mattitude gimmick is meant to be, "where are you, my little MFer?" doesn't give a guy a whole lot to work with.

And yes, Matt chucked Shannon into the women's locker room. I thought that skit was perfect. While the WWE traditionally hits guys over the head with comedy (ala, Shannon goes into locker room, loud squealing, lots big-breasted women in their bras and panties come bounding out of the place), you could barely see the "Women" on the door and just heard a slight scream as Matt walked away.

Subtle humor can be BETTER than in your face humor, but after so much of the latter, it can be hard to detect the former. Glad to see someone in Creative finally mastering the aspect of subtlety.

At first I didn't like this angle, cause the whole "tough love" and "I'm beating your ass for no reason" stuff just come off bad.

But for comedy I liked it...Shannon had me laughing in the rumble when he was on his back trying to prop Matt back up in the ring with his feat. And the stuff Thursday at least was entertaining.

Although anything's better the Al Wilson on tv

Shannon Moore has a lot of talent, he just has never reallu had a chance to shine. This angle is great for both him and Hardy.

Well, Shannon hasn't been in wrestling that long. It's like the Natural Bron Thrillers(apart from Stasiak) and quite a few guys who WCW brought in too early. They didn't get great training, and are still green.

Shannon is learning off of Matt. And he's learning off of Matt, because Matt is his freind. Vince probably thought it'd help Shannon to learn some stuff from someone he's been in the business with before. Plus, it helps get Matt over as the nasty, slightly messed up in the head sometimes heel. Oh, and he's one HELL of a bumper. The belly to belly to the outside still makes me cringe every time I see it.

As an aside, Scott Keith once said in a mailbag that wrestlers hit their peak at at something like 32, and how guys like Rock, which become popular in their late 20s, are like finding a diamond in the rough.

Shannon is 23 or something. There's PLENTY of time for development. I don't see him as a "future of the company" person, but down the line in the future when they find that guy and business booms again, he could be kind of useful. Assuming Vince stops being so scared of small guys (and with Mysterio so popular, there's still hope yet) and he doesn't pick up Jeff Hardy Disease.
