Guest Redhawk Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I remember back when I wondered what would happen if The Rock fought Booker T, or if Stone Cold fought Taz (ECW-style). Now with the addition of Smackdown, the WCW/WWF merger, and monthly PPVs having overexposed pro wrestling, are there any dream matches left? Since everyone has seemingly feuded with everyone else already, can you think of any matchups between two big-name guys we've never seen face each other? I can come up with... Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair Goldberg vs. The Rock Goldberg vs. Steve Austin Sting vs. Shawn Michaels
Guest saturnmark4life Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 yeah, but I wouldn't really be interested in any of those today. I wouldn't mind austin/flair, but on the wrong day it could just be crap. I really think hogan's the ONLY person you can use to any extent for 'dream' matches, and they pretty much did it with everyone. Hogan/austin might still have money in it though. I'm not sure how excited the general fanbase is about goldberg.
Guest NoSelfWorth Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Ric Flair has face Shawn Michaels before. It was in late '91., during Shawn's slow heel turn.
Guest Tim Cooke Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Hogan v Austin Goldberg v Rock Goldberg v Austin Goldberg/Hogan v Austin/Rock There are still plenty of matches that would do well if booked properly. Tim
Guest RickyB Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 What about Hogan/HBK and Hogan/Jericho has money in it (I know it's been done once before) if it's built up properly. Hogan/Benoit, Hogan/Steiner hasn't been done before to my knowlege. Hogan/Goldberg should be done again, in my opinion (though it would have to be merticulasly overbooked to be any good).
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Lesnar/Angle & Lesnar/Benoit are the two biggest matches I'm looking forward to now. Also, Los Guerreros vs. Team Angle vs. Edge & Christian in any sort of combination of the three.
Guest Lightning Flik Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 That's also another problem with WWE being the only big name in town. There really isn't anybody whom you could get a dream match with. Unless you include some guys in the NWATNA, RoH, and others. Like Ron "The Truth" Killings, Christopher Daniels, Low Ki and such people... But the problem with that is they'd have to be built up in the WWE and thus you might have a dream match squashed for just a regular boring match. Yet, actually I can think of a dream match. Christian(heel) vs Chris Jericho(face) for the WWE World Championship. Seriously, if built right, and they actually just let both guys cut loose while being themselves, I'd pay for that Main Event. Then again Christian will never become greatness in the WWE cause the WWE likes hosses... And management continues to make Jericho a joke to the Main Event.
Yuna_Firerose Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Christian(heel) vs Chris Jericho(face) for the WWE World Championship. I'd pay $35 just to see that event. When it comes to mic work on the Raw side, I think only HBK could pass these two up. E&C vs Los Guerreros -or- E&C vs Matt/Shanny That's about all I can think of at the moment.
Guest El Satanico Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Are you joking? HBK is second only to HHH in giving long drawn out boring as hell promos. I think HHH has been training HBK in the art of "taking forever to get to the fucking point".
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Probably the other way around. Shawn was always pretty crappy on the mic.
Guest El Satanico Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 All of the big name "dream matches" would suck so I hope we don't see any more. Austin vs. Hogan would be a terrible match, but it's the only "dream match" that should happen. Just for Historic value of "#1 guy of the past vs. #1 guy of the present". "Dream matches" are suppose to be matches you never thought would happen in your lifetime. Angle/Lesnar nor Jericho/Christian should be considered "dream matches".
Guest Just call me Dan Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Esepcially as a face. No doubt about that.
Guest Brian Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Has Jericho/Edge been done yet other than in tags? That, in the future could be a good pay per view main. Eddy/Jericho hasn't been played out as a WWE match, especially a main event calibre match. I think Rock as a heel and Benoit as a face qualifies, because it freshens up everything. HBK vs. Rock. HBK vs. Edge. HBK vs. Jericho. Hogan vs. Edge. Hogan vs. Austin. It's easy with the part-timers.
Guest JericholicEdgeHead Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Hulk Hogan vs. Steve Austin Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels Rock vs. Shawn Michaels Jimmy Snuka vs. Rob Van Dam---I doubt this will happen due to Snuka's age. Triple H vs. Randy Savage and my personal dream match... Chris Jericho vs. Rowdy Roddy Piper
Guest Brian Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Angle and Lesnar is really one-of-a-kind and I think that qualifies it. Here are two guys who achieved everything so fast and both had amateur backrounds, locking up in a WWE ring at the biggest event of the year. Really, the future of the company.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Another dream match, although I'm not sure it will count is Benoit/Angle in a 60 Minute Iron Man for the WWE Title. I would love to see that match.
Guest Just call me Dan Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I'd much rahter see Eddie and Benoit go at it for 60 minutes because I think they would bust out some insane stuff, and have more "holy shit" stuff thrown in there than either of them with Angle. Angle is an awesome performer and his moveset expands every week, but it is usually stuff like a top rope clothesline or a powerbomb. There is no telling what we could see from Benoit/Guerrero. For heat purposes, Angle would be better off in there with Benoit, and if you want a long feud to get the honor of taking on the Iron Man match, Benoit/Angle would be best. I guess I'm just saying I'd like to see Benoit/Eddie go 60 more, but it might not come off as the better match.
Guest Redhawk Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 That's all well and good, but imagine how many German suplexes we'd see with benoit and Angle in the same ring for an hour. 25? 30 maybe?
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I realize that Benoit/Guerrero would likely be the better match, but that pairing doesn't hold the same kind of almost mythic status that several pairs in wrestling history have (Flair/Steamboat, Savage/Hogan, Bret/Shawn, Austin/Vince, HHH/Rock, etc.) Benoit/Angle are rapidly approaching those guys as far as being associated with each other, and have been pushed as the two best technical wrestlers of the current era. Benoit/Angle for 60 minutes to me would be far more of a dream match than Benoit/Guerrero.
Guest Zero_Cool Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I think that if Benoit and Angle got sixty minutes, they'd be allowed to open up a bit a try different things. Maybe we'll see that dragon suplex from Benoit count for a pinfall, or maybe have Angle...uhm, do something cool too! Does Angle have anything we haven't seen for a while?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Austin vs. Hogan would probably be the biggest match I can think of
Guest The Son of Sting Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Edge-Jericho had a cage match on Smackdown around summertime. Without an other competitive company dream matches cant really happen.
Guest Redhawk Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Maybe Angle can do a pop-up German superplex? Nah, he'd probably hurt someone. I think with enough rehab (reputation-wise, not drug), RVD and Benoit or Guerrero could get to I-want-to-see-them-go-60 level.
Guest Anglesault Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Does Angle have anything we haven't seen for a while? Impact wise? Uhm, other than the 800 Austin-plexes from Raw, no. He does have a bunch of submissions he hasn't used in two ywars.
Guest wildpegasus Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 If Benoit and Eddie got 60 minutes, it'd probably be the best match ever, especially if it happened in Japan where there would be no restrictions on what they could do. Just imagining Guerrero countering Benoit's top rope powerbomb brings a tear to my eye. If Benoit and Angle got 60 minutes, it'd be awesome as well although not as good. In fact, if Benoit and Angle have another title match before Angle drops the belt, this is what they should do. Have Angle submit right at the 60:01 mark. This keeps Benoit strong and maintains the story of the ever elusive chase for the heavyweight title. Some other dream matches to me would be seeing any combination of Kawada, Nagata, Kobashi, American Dragon or Lo-Ki going up against any of the top WWE's wrestlers. I'd also love to see Benoit vs Johnny Smith one more time.
Guest Banky Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I'd say 1. Goldberg vs. Austin 2. Hogan vs. Austin 3. Lesnar vs. Goldberg 4. Benoit vs. Guerrero (done properly) 5. The Rock (face) vs. John Cena (heel) - magical mic work would be done.
Guest ManKinnd Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 I thought it would be obvious what we haven't seen Angle do in a while - - - the MOONSAULT! Have you forgotten so quickly?
Guest Anglesault Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Well, he did it to Big Show and stuff. Kind of. Well, in theory.
Guest Just call me Dan Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 I'm wating on an Austin/Lesnar with good build. austin in heel 2001 form with much offense and Brock's Goldberg like ring presence would make for some pretty entertaining crap if you ask me. I doubt we get anything like that, though.
Guest THE MIGHTY THOR Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 I would've paid to see RVD/HBFEY on a ppv but they gave it away for free not too long ago, but how about a HBK/Angle match???That could be a dream match too.
