Who else was there on Raw for Austin to work with at that time?

I don't know about anyone else, But I didn't expect that Austin/Taker match to turn out to be the Train Wreck it was.

I was also disgusted at how Austin v. Taker turned out. They're previous matches had all been pretty good and they seemed to mesh well together but Backlash was just ugh ugh ugh.

I don't think you even read most of the earlier posts, especially mine about 7 or 8 up. Austin gets asked to put over the flashes in the pan, and won't do it. I say good for him. Shit, I only wish Rey wouldn't put over Albert or Brock wouldn't have jobbed to Big Show. Everyone Bill DeMott has beataen, it just sucks. When Nathan comes in, it sucks for people to have to put his talentless ass over. You can bet your ass someone like Benoit or Eddie will have to lay down for Jones at some point. It's sad. Austin has enough swing after all he's produced to be able to give a second opinion. I'm telling you, give him a few months to feud with any DESERVING talent, and he'll put them over. He does things differently than Rock or anyone else as far as it is concerned, but don't think he won't do it.

Austin has had many matches with both Benoit and Jericho. Jericho has never won remotely clean and Benoit has never won a singles match against Austin period. The only clean win Angle holds over Austin isn't really clean at all due to Austin's bullshit "my hands were under the ropes" which NEVER factored into any serious storyline and served only to tarnish Angle's win. If the guy is back to being entertaining its OK, but please let's not pretend that he is in any way someone who puts others over. Let's not pretend that he isn't an egotistical arsehole when all evidence points to that being the case. That doesn't make him any less of an entertainer.

I'm telling you he WANTS to put over guys.  But when Vince comes up and says "Hey Steve, put over Billy Gunn, Jeff Jarrett, and Scott Hall" What the hell is he supposed to do with that?

What's wrong with Jeff Jarrett that Austin should refuse to work with anyway? I never really got that decision from Austin.

JJ had some sort of promo where he denounced Austin 3:16 as blasphemous. Austin and JR came down on it b/c they feared it would hurt Austin's merchandise sales would go down. Thus starting a riff between the parties, and ultimately led to JJ going to WCW.

You know Hamburglar there is a way to put someone over without jobbing to them.

Well, the only person that Austin "made" was the Rock. And he "made" nobody else.

One could argue that he "made" Mick Foley but on the other hand, The Rock and his "Odd Couple" back-and-forth with Foley did more to get him over than his feud with Austin....

Austin never made Rock, he only thinks he does. Rock made himself.

Now to answer the question, you have to keep Austin happy. The WWE doesn't have any choice. Their ratings will at least stay stablized if you have Austins character fresh and you have him whooping the Horsemans ass.

The thing is, Austin can't be like he was before when he left. He can't be having ridiculas "what" leading promos. He can't act like a goofball. He has to be a serious badass who whoops HHH's ass leading to a title win at Wrestlemania. He has to be like he was in 1997-1998. 2001-2002 Austin can't draw anything because he's too damn goofy! Comedy can't sell, but serious feuds can. HHH is the biggest heel on Raw, and the problem has been that he hasn't had an equal calibur face to square off with. With Austin, he has somebody who can finally take the title away from him. Give Austin the screentime he needs, but still continue your current storylines. Fans will watch for Austin, and than they will catch on to the rest of the storylines like they did in 98.

Austin is the key for the WWE to get back to the promise land. People will start talking with Austin and Rock coming back, and they'll catch on.

Austin never feuded with Benoit or Jericho in anything that was worth a shit. You can sit here and argue that he had a one on one PPV match with Jericho at NWO 2002, but that was NO FEUD. For storyline purposes, they hotshotted the title back to Austin after they felt Angle's face turn bombed. Angle tapped clean and they aired that footage and set it up like that as a backup plan.

Austin just isn't going to go out there and job on a one month BS program that serves no purpose at all. That's where people like the Rock fuck up. You can't lay down for anyone and everyone on command or IT HURTS YOUR CAREER. Vince says do it on insticnct, but even he makes mistakes and may regret it in the long run.

Austin will make a deserving talent look like a million bucks if you give him time to do it and you lay out a story worth a dman, which is what WE , THE FANS WANT, and what he knows we want. It makes sense!

Oh, indeed. In fact I'd say that had the 2001 Benoit feud progressed one could have said that even without jobbing Austin would have been putting Benoit over. Austin put Angle over despite not jobbing at Summerslam 2001. Problem was, he made that worthless by winning the title back two weeks after Unforgiven, and then turning face at Survivor Series and comprehensively beating Angle clean twice in two months, once at Vengeance and once at Raw. Austin's never put Jericho over period. Hell, even in the supposed watershed Austin loss against Triple H at No Way Out 2001, people conveniently forget that Austin got his heat back straight after the match with his lame as hell one last stunner routine. Austin "making" Rock is laughable considering Rock's height was when Austin was out injured and also that Rock has never beaten Austin one on one, including two Wrestlemania main event losses to him. Austin's great when he's on form, but I can't think of anyone he raised to the next level or indeed lost to in any meaningful way.

In time.

He doesn't throw away his rub. And he has more of a rub than anyone has ever. Austin knows to much about the business and has done so much for it to be consdered someone who wouldn't do what's right. The bullshit he was fed before (not opponents, mind you) never amounted to anything worth him laying down for. Even Shawn went down when it was the righ thing to do(Yes, I hear it was by force in more than just being injured)

Fact is, even people who have done it the right way (Foley) end up getting shit on. I think Austin is just quite the precatious one and will try everything in his power to make his sacrifices and the end of his career mean something.

And the thing about getting heat back?Ha. Don't even go there. ALL faces do that. Benoit does it with Angle and that's just to name something recent (I know he didn't at the Rumble) It happens. It's all about the booking and sending the fans home happy.
