Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted January 30, 2003 I'll admit it: I loved the first season of the Showtime version, and I've wanted to see the original British version for some time now. As for the second season, I lost Showtime at home and moved to college, but I've heard it's become really hackneyed and pretty silly this season. O_o Anyway, I watched this a few times. The UK version is way way way better than the crap version on Showtime. Both shows are simply okay, I can't really say they resemble my life at all since almost everything in these characters lives revolve around the fact that they're gay (in fact, the show can never overcome the "OMG THEY'RE GAY" part and find something new) while in my life (and it seems in the lives of many others), it's hardly an important facet. I can picture the directors now: Director: OMG THIS GUY IS GAY JotW: Wow. I'm gay too, big deal. Director: OH SHIT OH SHIT THEY'RE UNZIPPING THEIR PANTS. THIS IS PROVACATIVE TELEVISION! JotW: I can't even see anything. If you're going to use every word under the sun for "penis" and make jokes about them, you might as well show them, too. Director: HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE HAVING ORAL SEX! OMG! JotW: This actor is so bad at this that he's obviously straight. I'm outta here. *changes channel* Director: WAIT!!!! You haven't gotten to the part where we get depressed and talk about how the entire U.S. and half of Canada hates gay people yet! Watch the first season if you must, but ignore the second, where all the deep and meaningful drama of the show is thrown out and it basically becomes a gay porno with an equally mindless plot. Even in the first season, the plot is "Being gay SUCKS, and this is why..." Way too many stereotypical gay-hating straight people, etc. The dialogue is about as bad as an HHH D-X promo. Dick jokes galore. Reccomended only if you're closeted and thus never see homosexuality live and in person, or you have a serious love for penises and penis humor. * Means women who are attracted to homosexuals. They're nowhere near as annoying as the gay guys (usually the complete flaming type, but not always) who insist that every guy on the street they see is gay. I had heard about the show and figured to myself if it's a well written show and doesn't do anything to turn me off of it right away I'll give it a shot. an episdoe was a good ways through so I turn it on... And RIGHT there in front of my eyes with first thing I see is a guy who looks to be about 30 taking it in the BUTT from a guy who looks 60 in an airplane bathroom...9 seconds of my life I'd like back. Ohhh... you saw Emmett (the young guy)! Okay, I don't know anything about the old guy, but Emmett is quite the hotty (thus..he's in my sig! ). You should watch more episodes, though. You can't judge the entire show based on 9 seconds. How did I know you'd be a fan of this show? Well, actually, I've never even heard of the show till about two weeks ago. Then, my mom got Showtime. Basically you're saying its OK for men to lust after lesbians because men are naturally sexual predators who want to have sex with everything that moves and has an orifice regardless of whether it wants it or not, but it's not OK for a woman to want to see two men getting it on because "sorry honey, they're gay"? The program really does revolve around their orientations rather than have the orientations be an accessory to the main action.
