SJL Historian's Rankings - February 2003

Recommended Posts

Guest Longdogger_Pete

Notes: This month debuts the (possibly) prestigious Superstar of the Month award! This month's rankings include the four bumpees, since their SWF debut isn't until tomorrow. It's good to see a lot of new faces in the stats over the last couple of weeks, so I expect next month's roster to be just as loaded with talented guys. The top ten workers now have smarks' commentary attached; this will now be a regular feature in the rankings. This month's guest commentator is none other than JLCC member Zed, who penned comments for the top five JL superstars on the list. Thanks, Zed!

AND NOW WITHOUT FURTHER DELAY...

YOUR SJL SUPERSTAR FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY 2003 IS.... A TIE!

*** CROW & JANUS ***

Runners-up: Dace Night, Wildchild

SJL FEBRUARY RANKINGS!

Top Ten Now With Commentary!

1) Janus (up 1) - Current SJL European champion with a reign that has extended over 50 days. His sudden defection to the JL division of the Magnicent Seven has proven to be wise, as the crowd's response to his heel character is louder and more difinitve than as a face. However, his mic skills in general are questionable and unproven, but he shows the ability to improve. Has silenced most of the cynical internet community, who were critical of his early push, with talent unusual for a man of his size, and his ability to put on entertaining, fun matches, as well as raw power exhibitions, evidenced with his win in the Mall Brawl at the Malice in Wonderland PPV. Considered the front-runner in the World Title Tournament.

2) Ejiro Fasaki (down 1) - Unquestionably the top heel in the JL at the time of the PPV and his bumpage. The buyrates for the Malice in Wonderland PPV prove that the feud between Wildchild and he was very successful, drawing the fans in unlike any since CIA/Mak Francis. As fundamentally sound a wrestler as could be imagined, Ejiro used his ability that was once critisized as "boring" as feul against the more high spot-orientated Wildchild, and succeeded in captivating the fans attention toward his meticulous, submission based offense. His microphone skills, a weak spot when he debuted, have been polished to reveal a rather charismatic personality, although they could still stand some work. Looks to make the most immediate impact in the WF.

3) Wildchild (up 3) - Finally toppling Ejiro at Malice in Wonderland, Wildchild won the SJL world title, although he was forced to vacate the title immediately due to being bumped to the SWF. The fans love Wildchild's unique and innovative high-flying offense; but it was his underrated chain wrestling ability that got an oppertunity to shine in his feud with Ejiro Fasaki. (Although some will endlessly insinuate that Ejiro carred the wrestling aspects of the feud) On the other side of the coin, Wildchild's speaking abilitys are still largely unknown, as the JL office would not allot him much mic time. It remains to be seen how this will affect him in the more character-driven WF, but Wildchild shows unlimited potential, has a very bright future.

4) Fugue (down 1) - Also a member of the JL Magnificent Seven, Fugue remained a main event player through out his feud with Johnny Dangerous, even after losing the world title. His wrestling style is a nice balance between Wildchild insane spots and Ejiro's technical wrestling utopia. Fugue has shown GREAT speaking ability in the rare oppertunity's he's been given, and hopefully the WF brass will be able to allot better promo time for him. Will be a rock-solid WFer.

5) Dace Night (down 1) - Though Dace has still not been able to get his hands on any gold in the WF, he surely will soon, as he is considered a favorite in the World Title Tournament. His technical talent is mindblowing for a man of his size, but what has truly gotten the audience on his side are his stomach-churning, blood-spilling exploits in horror hardcore, exemplified in his PPV match with Spike Jenkins. The harnessing of the fans unending bloodlust has made Dace the top face in the JL at current. However... his mic skills remain totally untested, and he has yet to be given an oppertunity to work on them.

6) Chris Card (up 2) - Chris debuted right before the 2002 holiday break, and has proven to be a rock solid competitor ever since, racking up victories against the likes of Mike Moran, Crow, Insane Luchador, and the Disciples of Discord. The fans, however, seem to take a liking to his escort, Natasha, and whether that will ultimately work in Card's favor or to his detriment remains to be seen. Card has a promising future in the SJL but should watch out for the flood of newcomers not far from his heels.

7) Crow (new) - Crow finally answered the question many fans have wondered for months, "Will the mysterious Crow ever sign with the SJL?" Sure enough, Crow debuted right after the holiday break and has proven his worth as a newcomer with loads of potential. Crow's storyline involving Chris Card and Natasha has generated interest among the fans, and it'll be interesting to see how the unusual relationship plays out. Crow seems to have an affinity for specialty matches; it's still unclear how he'll perform in a technical matchup. This is one worker that has gold in his future.

8) Spike Jenkins (up 3) - Two words - Gauntlet Match. The January 19th epic made a legitimate competitor out of Spike Jenkins, who until recently had been floundering in the midcard ranks. An impressive match coupled with increasing promo time has raised Spike's value in the SJL. With the four bumpees leaving the league, Spike has a chance to break his way into the main event, if he can continue to step up his game.

9) Johnny Dangerous (down 4) - Don't let Johnny's low ranking fool you. This man is still every bit as Dangerous as his name implies. The biggest factor in Johnny's drop was some additional time off taken over the holiday break period. Despite possibly being saddled with a ridiculous gimmick, Johnny has gotten way over with the fans, and has proven his abilities time and time again, winning the SJL World title, teaming with Dace Night and Wildchild, and earning himself a promotion to the SWF roster.

10) Mike Van Siclen (new) - Veteran SJL competitor Mike Van Siclen is back in the rankings after some time away from the big show. Though good on the microphone, Mike's matches have a tendency to be hit-or-miss, which has hurt his credibility in the ring. Mike's character has been repackaged many times, but has never received the strong push he could use. Mike still has the potential to succeed, but will need to express the drive to match his talent in order to keep pace.

11) Christian Blackwell (new)

12) Insane Luchador (up 3)

13) Leon Sharpe (new)

14) Cutthroat (new)

15) Omega Storm (new)

16) Arianwyn Rivenstone (down 3)
