We haven't seen Haku Wrestling wise in the states since 2001 and he did the one show in Asia vs DDP. I just saw on Gerwich.net they moved his name off the WWE page to the Indi page, so I assume yes they finally released him.

Now, Im the sole Haku Fan on the planet....But I totally understand this..

What I dont understand is why were they holding onto him so long?

First...lets genuflect

For you youngins who only started watching wrestling after Mike Tyson went to Wrasslemania, Haku was a WWF mainstay from 86-91. From there he went to Japan to work for Tenryu's Now defunct SWS Promotion. Haku then went to WCW and Became Meng. As Meng he accomplished more Successful Singles wins in WCW had he done in old WWF. Getting wins on PPV events over the likes of Jim Duggan, and Chris Benoit in a Deathmatch. Even went so far is to win the WCW Hardcore title....only to pass it to His buddy the Barbarian...when He Jumped back to WWF!

But WWF coming back they had no clue what to do with him. They went into a interesting path using Haku with Rikishi to go against Taker and Kane, which means if Haku coming back and Is picking fights with people like Kane and Taker...he must be One Bad Motha (Shut yor Mouth)

Butttt asides from the Invasion angles... Haku disappeared..

Now on to the original question.

Why hold onto him?

Haku even in decline could have been builded as a Tough wrestler. Not pretty or technical just a Brick Shithouse. But they didn't. They could have fired him after No Way out 2001 but....They didn't. Haku went to OVW helped by "Managing" The Island Boys there, but when they made their move, Haku was left behind. After OVW and WWE split, Haku was left in Limbo.

So Instead of releasing him to pay those Valuable nWo , Hogan, and Steiner Contracts??? No the Mike Sanders and Ron Watermans went down. Haku remains on contract but never used.

Hell I know alot of you say he is a Shitty wrestler... well at this point he is. But even Shitty wrestlers get on Tv.... Like Albert for one??? HellLLO.

With Haku for a while I said, either Release him or let him wrestle. But they didn't they kept him at home for more than a year since his Last WWE/OVW match. Now they finally release him. Its one of those things as if they really FORGOT they had him before they released him.

Haku now can retire, will be 50 by 2009, or he can go to the place where they still respect the declining wrestler....and since WCW is gone, Japan Awaits him. was suggested that Inoki could get him a position on the Pride Circuit so he can finally show why he has been given the Reputation of being a "LEGIT" Ass Kicker.

Why did you waste all that time writing about Haku? You bored or something?

I don't much consider it a Waste of time.

Much like any Post you do is not a Waste.

Its a Valid Question why did they keep him on the payroll for doing nothing.

You got a problem with that? Sorry that I didn't come up some thing clever to post about that Drunk wife beating Saint that you want back....

A few facts are wrong...

It was HWA that got canned from the WWE developmental, not OVW.

Haku/Meng was the WCW Hardcore Champion when he jumped ship I believe. He didn't lose it to Barbarian. At that point he was tagging with Kwee Wee.

Why I know this, I dunno.

Well Since I didn't post this for your personal Benefit I don't much care what you think, since obviously you got nothing Valid to say anyway. But there are plenty of Austin stroking threads for you to spew on.

Thanks Zack for the clairifications your right, it was HWA.

He had handed off the WCW Hardcore title to the Barbarian, not lose it, he phyiscally say hey...want the belt im going to WWF.

Haku does suck... release him NOW.. hes dead weight

See even thats more valid...

yes he is a Dead weight..and He could have been released Months ago, and sparing the careers of those like Sanders, Waterman and Jett.....

Something is just wrong about what they do or what they consider bankable or talent.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Haku was injured for a while in this last run. I think that would explain why they didn't release him.

that did not stop them from giving jerry lynn his notice during his knee injury.

True. But Jerry Lynn also wasn't employed by the WWE in the 80's either. I'm guessing Haku and Vince had a better relationship than Jerry Lynn and Vince.

Well since this thread blows,

Huh? What in the world would make you post that?

Anyway, I myself was wondering the same exact thing--is it only out of "loyalty" that Vince kept Haku on for so long? He clearly should have been released a looong time ago. Though one wonders why Vince's greatest loyalty is always to hosses and HBK.

It must have been loyalty. Plus Vince probably loved the fact that Haku jumped when he was a WCW champion and screwed up an entire division.

Vince is somewhat loyal to some workers, which is why guys like Bossman are still employed. It makes sense, sort of, in a retarded Vince kinda way.

I was a big fan of Haku's when he was in the Islanders with Tama (Tonga Kid)!

They were my favorite team at the time right behind The Hart Foundation and the Bulldogs.

Haku's probably on as a favor...I guess he's friends with just about everybody and has a history there.

If Haku keeps his job then Credible should have kept his...I mean he's skin and bones, Haku's not starving.

Haku (real name Uliuli "Tonga" Fifita) is (was) used as an "enforcer" backstage with other wrestlers who are acting like pricks.

Remember "Jimmy Jack Funk" in the eighties? (It was really Jesse Barr, but they slapped a Lone Ranger Mask on him and claimed he was related to Terry and Dory Funk.) He was being a jerk to some woman in a bar, and grabbed her boob, and Haku beat the crap out of him.

Both Foley and Dynamite Kid mention in their books that Haku is one of the REAL toughest guys in wrestling.

They actually brought him back into the WWE to work backstage, and work as a trainer with kids in the developmental system, probably to teach them how to conduct yourself backstage. As a former Sumo wrestler, he also knows a fair bit about Shoot Wrestling, and how to stretch a guy in the ring. He is also an accomplished Martial Artist.

You've heard of the infamous "wrestler's court" process backstage in the WWE, where the Wrestlers can dicipline each other with Vince's permission? Haku was reportedly a big part of that system.

If Haku DID get cut, I assume that it was a cost cutting measure, and they probably got him a job in Japan like they do for people they like when they have to let them go.

So, in answer to the original question, he was probably brought back to the WWE more his rep backstage, than his role on camera.

You know, WWE could be a dream job in a way we never considered. Get on the payroll, and then sit at home doing nothing. But the cheques keep coming in.

Listen to these endorsements by REAL wrestlers:

I see nothing wrong with this thread, and anyone who came in here acting like an ass needs to grow up, seriously.

I don't think they released him because he helped out backstage, he has a VERY long history with WWE thus I'm sure he has many friends here, and I think they might have thought him to be of some sort of use on TV.

I was still a fan of his in WCW, and at one point he was VERY over, both in the tag division and in singles. I'll never forget the time he finally got his shot against Goldberg for the World Title after having a "streak" of his own. He put on the Tonga Death Lock, or whatever he called it, and had Goldberg down on the mat, PINNED, for like 20-30 seconds. My point is this...

...in ANY of his other matches, that would have been called a pin, and he would have won the matche. So, yes folks, Meng was cheated, CHEATED, out of the WCW Title damnit!

I've got nothing against you Trivia, so I don't understand why you went on your little rambling rant about people liking Steve Austin because it makes no sense and has nothing to do with Haku.

And I was joking around with the "Wasting your time" comment. People need to take a few chill pills and not be so uptight.

Haku should of been released a long time ago, but The Thread Killer's post was pretty good and probably gives explanation on why he hasn't been canned just yet.

And thanks, Use Your Illusion, for the compliment on the banner.
