EL DANDY~! Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Yuji Nagata today became the second most decorated IWGP Heavyweight Champion in history, breaking two reigns that lasted seven defenses (Fujinami and Hashimoto), and finding himself one defense short of matching Shinya Hashimoto's second reign as champion. Nagata fended off a very strong challenge from fellow technician, Osamu Nishimura, putting him away in just over 20 minutes with his new Nagata Lock III, which Mr. Muga (who wrestled in bare feet) wasn't able to counter after all. This was reportedly a very intense and emotional match. -Strong Style Spirit I personally think he'll get to nine and then he'll lose the title to Takayama. Of course, if he doesn't get another title defense in there before he faces Takayama, then I think he won't get to tie Hash's record. Probably another good match out of NJPW, but that should have been expected from these two. You all think he'll get to nine?
Guest RickyChosyu Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 "Nagata Lock III" That's a Regal Stretch without the step-over toe hold, right?
Guest TheGame2705 Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 It looked like a Rings of Saturn and the Regal Stretch headlock.
EL DANDY~! Posted February 3, 2003 Author Report Posted February 3, 2003 It's basically a Ground Abdominal Stretch, but maybe DACE could help us out with this...
Guest PlatypusFool Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 Cobra twist, using the floor to add leverage on the other arm - sounds about right. He'll make nine, almost definate, not sure if he'll lose it to Takayama though, he might survive that challenge. Tenzan is next likely, or maybe Nakanishi, but neither of them will be able to get it until towards the end of the year.
Guest Evil Ash Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 Well, for as long as the link works, it looks like this: Nagata Lock III
Guest Ace309 Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 That'd be even more badass if he covered the lower body to decrease the possibility of the guy shrimping out to counter. Sorry, as a freestyle/Greco guy, these things bother me.
Guest TheGame2705 Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 I doubt he jobs to Takayama. Takayama's push got stopped cold by Misawa. I think if anyone he jobs to Tenzan after doing V9.
