Guest Choken One Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 This was one of the VERY VERY VERY few Mid-season shows I was even interested in. I didn't have much expectations for the show, not really thinking Ed "Al Bundy" O' Neil would make a good TV Cop. I was wrong. It isn't the greatest cop show ever, But it was different from the fast action camera angle blah shows of today and simple Old school style with no supertech stuff, straight investigation. It's not the greatest hour of Televison but It stands above alot of horrible televison shows today. Hopfully, It'll catch on. What were your thoughts?
Guest EQ Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 Damn, i forgot to watch. What's the timeslot & channel, btw?
The Dames Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 EQ, I TOLD YOU....Sunday, Channel 7, 10pm, after Oz. The show was alright, I wasn't expecting a blockbuster or anything. I mark out for the two leads and I'll keep watching for a while. Dames

The Dames Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 HAHAHAHA....Excellent work, EQ. Dames
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 I'm sorry, but every show/movie Ed is in I can't help but expect him to say "hooters" and stick his hand in his pants...
Guest Choken One Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 I can watch Blue Chips and avoid the Al Bundy Stigma...and Dragnet...nothing else though...Maybe it was because he gained about 25 pounds and got grayer hair.
Guest El Satanico Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 It wasn't bad. Gave good homage to the original and has good lead actors. But it was still just another typical modern cop show. Most modern cop shows don't do much for me. I think The Shield is the only recent cop show i liked enough to watch every week.
Guest Choken One Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 Of course...I can't even stomach Law and Order and all it's other incarnations anymore... Mainly it's Shield and NYPD Blue for the Cop Shows...
Guest EQ Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 I really need to get the first season of Shield on DVD. I keep hearing about this show
Guest Choken One Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 What in the Fuck? Go NOW! While at it...Pick up "24". If ya don't got it.
Guest EQ Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 oh, i've HAD 24 =D I just don't have the money for Shield right now
Guest Choken One Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 Whew. Good...You gained some credit...
The Dames Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 Hey....I forcefed him 24 til he liked it. He's such a Superman mark that he was watching Smallville and didn't bother watching 24 til I made him get the DVD....with a personal money back guarantee. Dames
Guest EQ Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 He really did do the money-back guarantee too, but I didn't need to take him up on it.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 Before Married with Children all Ed O'Neil did was play cops and such. He even replaced Gene Hackman in the third French Connection film "Popeye Doyle." I caught a bit of Dragnet tonight and thought it was your standard cop show that you don't see anymore, but still a far cry away from the stylized almost camp of the original series. Or rather the later episodes of the second series that most are famliar with.
Guest DrTom Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 It wasn't bad, but it's no Homicide.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 I liked it a lot. As a big L&O fan, I found this to have a similar style but with a bit of a different character. I'll definitely be making this regular viewing in its timeslot, especially considering what else is available.
Guest EternallyLazy Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 As a fan of the original Dragnet series and of course the extremely underrated 1987 Hanks/Ackroyd film, I give the series a thumbs up... What irks me though is the mediocre reviews... I can understand if someone doesnt like it, but the common theme I'm reading is "It's NOTHING like the original series... why remake Dragnet if there's no Dragnet." In my opinion, you CANT truly remake a classic. If you try you fail and you fuck up the legacy. One reason I like the new Dragnet is because it doesn't try and copy the original.
Guest Lethargic Posted February 4, 2003 Report Posted February 4, 2003 I liked it a lot but I wonder if other stories lines will be as interesting as that one.
Guest Lil Naitch Posted February 4, 2003 Report Posted February 4, 2003 Damn. I meant to watch it, but forgot. I do that with a lot of shows, like 24 and Alias. Just have to pick up the DVD's when they come out.
Guest subliminal_animal Posted February 5, 2003 Report Posted February 5, 2003 As I said elsewhere, I thought Dragnet was the straight-up wackest (thing I've seen in a while). I hope the series doesn't get cancelled simply because I like Ed O'Neill. I thought the episode concept was okay, but it was poorly executed. And their detective work was so accurate despite the "why the fuck would he think that?" quality that it seemed ridiculous. Maybe I missed some things because I was kind of out of it, but I was laughing at points, seriously. I thought the old Dragnet was shit, and the show just confirmed how I thought it was just going to be mostly another cop show with the name attached. It was, but what else could they do? Mimic the voice and mannerism of Friday and the other guy (who I thought must've been named Dragnet because of the title and wondering why Friday seemed to more of the main character when Dragnet's name was the damn title wow this was a long note)? The name seemed to be just there to get more people interested in the show than there would be if it was called "Detroit South" or something cop shows are called. Then people would've been, "Look, another cop show with Al Bundy. I think I have some sleep to get."
