Guest Downhome Report post Posted February 3, 2003 I just downloaded the offten made fun of, Chamber of Horrors Match from WCW Halloween Havoc 1991 pitting Sting, El Gigante, & The Steiners against Vader, Cactus Jack, The Diamond Studd, & Abdullah the Butcher, and I had to ask this question. Just what would you say is the worst gimmick match, of all time? Not just the quality of the match, but the actual gimmick involved also. I still am in awe that someone had to sit down, present the idea for the Chamber of Horrors, and that someone agreed that it was a good idea. From "The Ghouls" that waited outside of the ring with the stretcher, to that damn "Refer Cam", to the Chair of Torture itself, this was 100% manure. Not to mention the match itself was just horrible, HORRIBLE. Back when this first took place, what was people saying about it? I mean, could anyone take it seriously seeing how the purpose was to actually kill (or at least look like you kill) someone on the other team by putting them in an electric chair? I just love the quote by Tony in reference to Abdullah when he opened his eyes after being "shocked" in the chair... Well I guess when he opened his eyes he thought he was in Heaven, and he knew he shouldn't be there! ...I could go on, and on, and on about this, but I feel that's enough. Did any of the guys involved ever say anything in an interview about that match, and what they thought of it? I mean, surely they thought it was retarded as hell just like everyone else, didn't they? Anyhow... ...what would you say is the worst gimmick match of all time? Sincerely, ...Downhome...
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 3, 2003 I don't think the Chamber of Horrors was THAT bad if they just made it a Thunderdome Match...Which is an forgotten Gimmick. Pole Matches always sucked...however worst ever? Scaffold. Worst and most dangerous.

Guest Downhome Report post Posted February 3, 2003 The Shark Tank match on the Wrestling Gold DVD was just hideous Oh my God, you are the second person to say that! This other guy told me it was Jay Strongbow vs. Don Kent for what it's worth by the way. Now, please, can you explain just what in the hell it was?

Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Gimmick Battle Royal of 50-70 year old "legends" from Wrestlemania Cross Dressing match of Pat Patterson vs Brisco Shit on a Pole WCW matches Oklahoma or David Arquette as champion Whoa...Back up Nessie. This was great merely for the Nostaliga factor and besides the match was like 25 seconds.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted February 3, 2003 These guys wrestled in this shark tank that was really small and they couldnt move at all- all they could do was punch
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Another Induction The Asylum. A Mini-Octogon that only allowed 3 steps total and it hurt with having Borefest Tank and Steiner (both).
Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Kennel from Hell. Just an absolute garbage match, made only barely watchable because of what the dogs were doing.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Kennel from Hell counts as a gimmick, right? That match was God-awful, not even funny. ^ beat me to it

Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 3, 2003 I am more refering to the Intros...all the memories flooding back. The match was quickly done it didn't hurt anything...It was a treat for the Fans who stuck through the rough.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted February 3, 2003 How about the Doomsday Cage Match pitting Hulk Hogan & Randy Savage against Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Lex Luger, Kevin Sullivan, Z-Gangsta, The Ultimate Solution, & The Faces of Fear. The match was so bad, that at the end, Savage forgot to pin whoever it was, left the cage, and Hogan had to tell him to go back in and make it be officially over, just UGH. Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted February 3, 2003 I loved the gimmick battle royal. It is probably the only time I have ever seen the WWF look back on its past like that.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Or how about the King of the Road Match with Blacktop Bully vs. Dustin Rhodes? You know the one, where they were fighting in the back of a flat bed truck, and it was so bumpy and the such, they just about couldn't do anything at all. I loved how the annoucers had to make it seem like a "hay shot" was something horrible!

Guest Downhome Report post Posted February 3, 2003 How about the Crybaby match which was Razor Ramon vs. The 1-2-3 Kid? The match wasn't all that bad, but the gimmick was f'n horrible. Ok, it was more of an after match stipulation, but still.
Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Earthquake/Yokozuna sumo match. I understand both guys have backgrounds, but it was pointless.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted February 3, 2003 It's a scaffold match. There's been dozen of them and they all suck and all look stupid.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Inferno Match...cause there's only one rule; Kane loses. You can tell who's going to lose right away by who's wearing the protective clothes. And I hate how JR will bust something out like "The Inferno Match is Kane's specialty"...even though he's winless in them. Does the same with Taker and a casket match, even thought he's lost a few/
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Any stupid gimmick match from a WCW Uncensored PPV. The Viagra on a Pole Match from Nitro And the WCW Junkyard Invitational match..

Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Didn't half the participants in the Junkyard Invitational get legitimately hurt? I think Hak (Sandman) got hurt and never wrestled in WCW again, but it might not have been the junkyard match that did it. Finlay (who won it) got hurt at a house show shortly after the PPV and never wrestled again (I don't remember if they blamed that on the junkyard match or not either)..the whole 1999 WCW stuff was pretty much a blur for me and I made the stupid mistake of ordering BATB. All I can remember was that the camera work was horrible (from a hellicopter?) and you could hardly tell who was doing what anyway because of the poor lighting. It was just..stupid. They could have just had a regular hardcore match in the arena and let it go all over the place and it would have been 10x better easy.

What happened was Fit got hurt going through a table at a house show. The table shrapnel tore his leg open so bad that muscle was visible. Fit returned under the Russo regime to take Brian Knobs under his wing, and did return to the ring after the injury. I remember he took Vampiro on in a Falls Count Anywhere match at Uncensored 2000. Guest XdojimeX Report post Posted February 3, 2003 In all my years as a puro-phile I never got up the courage to see one...but the trademark Inoki "Island Death Match" are the stuff of legend for astronomically bad gimmick matches. Two words. Tiger Jeet. Of course the seedy indy underbelly of Japan gave us the greatest gimmick of them all in the Bath House deathmatch. So it all evens out in the end.
