Chunk 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Today's GWF Aftermath show has been fraught with troubles due to the ring not turning up as planned. The show, held at King George's Hall, Blackburn, was set to feature stars such as CZW's Trent Acid, Johnny Kashmere and Ian Knoxx, as well as top UK talent such as Doug Williams, Jodie Fleisch and GWF champion Jonny Storm. The show was also to debut the UK's first-ever 'Fans Bring The Weapons' match pitting the aforementioned Knoxx versus the UK hardcore icon Iceman. Wrestle-Zone UK's own webmaster Gary Graham has been present throughout today's events and had earlier informed me that promoter Jon Farrer had hoped for a replacement ring to arrive for the Blackburn venue at 9 o'clock tonight. However, it is now confirmed that the show has been cancelled, leaving the remaining fans 'baying for blood'. Earlier in the day, fans were upset after having their home-made weapons for the Knoxx/Iceman clash confiscated by police before the fan-fest prior to the show. In further backstage news, disgraced promoter Jon Farrer was slammed to the floor by Jake Roberts, kicked in by the CZW lads, and alos given a big leg-drop from the huge Bulk of the Pitbulls!!! Fans and workers alike are said to be raging with Farrer as a result of today's debacle. NOTE FROM GARY GRAHAM Farrer offered the fans a full refund on the ticket price and a free ticket to the next show. The fans as Farrer was on stage booed and shouted at him. Speaking to a group of lads who travelled down from Glasgow, they were really annoyed as the ticket price was only a fraction of what they paid, apparently £300 on a the hire of a coach. A few of the wrestlers I was speaking to were not to happy with the way things were dealt with. Any way its 3.05 am, and after 4 and half hours drive through snow over the pennines I will write a full report tomorrow. Explaining exactly what went wrong!!! From www.wrestle-zone.co.uk I know this is pretty specialised towards the UK scene, but when have you ever heard of a show being cancelled because they didnt have a ring. Honestly, its unbievable. Good job all UK wrestling isnt like this ChUnK!

Guest magell Report post Posted February 7, 2003 I read the whole report of the story and apparently the people they rented the ring from apparently never sent the ring and screwed him over. Although Farrer still could have have handled the cancellation better by not waiting so long and cancelling fairly quickly.
Guest deadbeater Report post Posted February 10, 2003 WWF had a show in Ohio cancelled a few years back for the same thing.
Guest NoSelfWorth Report post Posted February 10, 2003 Steve Lynskey, the 'man' who was supposed to deliver the ring, has been boasting to people about how he screwed Farrer over. This thing exploded into a three way spat between Farrer, Lynskey and UK promoter Rob(?)Conway on a UK message board. Amongst other things said were Conway posting Lynskey's cell phone number, which got him banned from the board, and a supposed 3-way shootfight being set up. Guest ShooterJay Report post Posted February 10, 2003 HAHAHAHAHA! I actually knew Jon Farrer way back when, a couple of years ago, I used to write for his website. He's a nice guy, but a stereotypical wrestling promoter to the end, (he screwed me out of some pay, and he promised wrestler interviews that never happened). This story brought a HUGE smile to my face.

Yeah, don't get me wrong ChUnk, as happy as Farrer screwing up makes me, I do feel really bad for the fans- it sounded like a really loaded show, with the Backseat, Knoxxx, Williams, Fleisch and Storm- it would have been great. I think the Backseats and Knoxxx did stick around, even though there was no ring, and did a Jerry Springer-esque talk-show to entertain the fans.

Supposedly, it all ended up with them stiffing Farrer. I spoke to some people that went, and they said that it was entertaining, but not entertaining in the way that it should have been. (I.e. It wasnt what they went for, if you see what I mean). ChUnK!
