A Question About...

The eliminating oneself rule only comes into play when they want it to.

I was just watching Rumble 92 now and in the rumble match, Savage eliminates himself going after Jake, but he is allowed back in because no one propelled him over the top? Was this the only Rumble with that rule? Because I know in the 89 Rumble Andre eliminates himself, as many others have done since.

I know it wasn't the only. This was the rule rather than the exception.

It wasn't much of a defect, though, it was Savage beating the shit out of Roberts, who was looking over his shoulder the whole match.

The 92 Rumble match is one of the most brilliantly booked pieces of pro wrestling I've ever had the privelege of seeing.

I completly agree...It was so perfect...

Just wish Patterson would get that Groove back...I thought he had it for the first 30 minutes of this years...

The best thing about was that there were so many people who could've feasibly won the thing. Savage, Hogan, Sid, Taker, Flair, etc.

Yeah, there were some lumps in there like Berzerker, Nikolai Volkoff and Repo Man, but really, did they detract from the match? Not at all. They came in, did their thing, and got eliminated, all without detracting from the story that was going.

Flair's performance in the match is what really put it over the top, though.

Yeah...It still would've been great if Flair was #15 or something...but that just added to it...

Best moment: Flair lying face down in the ring by himself at about the half way mark. Next entrant: new I-C champion Piper! The roof blows off the place!

Heenan: Noo! Noo! Not Piper! This Isn't Fair To Flair! This Isn't Fair To Flair!"

Goddam, that was a great match...

Incidentally, I think Savage jumped over the top rope and 'eliminated himself' by mistake while pursuing Jake. The announcers kinds of scrambled around it for a bit, and eventually covered for him with the fatuous 'self-propelled' exemption rule. Savage was booked to be in the final four, so they just let it slide and had Taker drag him back into the ring.

The 1992 Rumble is probably the one match I could put on an audio cd, listen to it during a long car drive, and still be entertained.

It's a kilt, it's not a skirt, it's a kilt.

Why you no good freak, you skirt-wearing freak, it's not a kilt, it's a skirt!

Yea-

Savage's was definetely a fuckup on his part.

Piper coming in at #15 is fantastic. Ric is beaten up and exhausted and you can tell he's praying for someone easy to come out. The look on his face when he sees it's Piper is great.

This year's Rumble kinda did a wink wink to that with Jericho and RVD

This year's rumble was going SO well until the testination of jericho's push and the 'boy I don't think I've ever seen so many fat samoans' portion. The thing I liked about the first half hour or so was that it was carried by the undercarders so well. Nowinski, christian, etc all made the most out of their short stays. Piper/Bret is a tremendous match, probably **** for the storytelling alone, and they beat the shit out of eachother as well, which is never bad. Another great example of how you don't need an overly complicated moveset or a flashy finisher or any stupid swerves to have a great match.

The only other time osmeone was eliminated and was allowed back in was HBK in 1996.

Vader illegally eliminated several guys, not just HBK, in the 96 Rumble.

Don't forget Austin in 1997 and Xpac in 2000...

Has anyone every accidentially eliminated themselfs or another one unintentionally? I remember Brock had to SAVE UT from falling out in this year's...Taker was scrambling to pull himself up...Same thing happened with Jericho but luckilly the camera didn't catch it completly and the refs had presence of mind...

I remember Jericho this year. I could tell that his feet hit the floor but luckily no one saw it so they could cover it up.

I can't think of anyone else besides Savage

Ummm i'm not sure aobut this but I remember some confusion on the announcers parts to whther Mil Mascaras was spposed to eliminate himself but maybe he was. Not sure there.

And only for HBK(the rest were all gone soon enough) and Savage they changed the rule since Taker(1993) and Maven(2002) werren't allowed back in depsite being eliminated by someone who waso ut.

Austin & X Pac chetaed so it's different.

If the stories about Mascaras' refusal to job or sell is any indication, I'd say he was supposed to eliminate himself - thus not give the rub to anyone else.

Hmmm . . . if I were Mil, I'd rather have a couple guys throw me out of a ring than look like an ignorant bozo who doesn't have a clue what's going on. Oh well.

These are some of the many reasons why I always pick the 1992 Royal Rumble as my favorite match.

Does it have the best wrestling? No.

Does it have the most emotion? No.

Is everything done perfectly? No.

But it's still the best one for me!

Didn't Edge's feet hit the floor, on camera I think, with Lawler and Ross trying to cover it up by saying that only one foot touched?
