Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 Has anyone seen this surprisingly funny movie? The promos for it were totally misleading. I thought it was going to be a dumb spoof like Not another Teen Movie, but it was a little different. Steve Oedekerk put himself within an existing 1970s kung fu flick, with some pretty funny results. This was the hardest I laughed at a movie in a long long time. Anyone else see it? It's on cable now, so if you're flipping, give it a shot.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 I've seen it and liked it. I'd imagine some of it might be harder to appreciate if you're not a fan of the Kung Fu flicks. The dvd has some of the weirdest special features, such as the "book on tape" version. Just a guy with a dry British accent speaking all the dialog over the movie.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 I've noted it on here before, but King Pow is directly inspired (re: ripped off) from the old Woody Allen movie "What's Up, Tiger Lily?" So search that out if you liked Kung Pow.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 Did Woody Allen put himself in that movie, or did he just alter the dialogue? I've heard 2 different things...?
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 He's not directly in the film itself like Oederkirk was. He does pop up in a couple bits outside of the text of the original film. One he's being interviewed about the movie and another is a girl stripping over the credits. He does the narration and a couple of the dubbed voices as well.
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I love this movie. I can't wait for the sequel in 2004.
Guest converge241 Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 This movie looked god awful in commercials when it came out in the theater and i avoided it like the plague..on video as well..but i saw it while channel surfing and fell in love with it They did a bad job marketing it becuase you couldnt get a good feel for what the movie was like from those commercial spots now i watch it/quote it religously I relaly hope they make that sequel "and then I killed the dog" "THATS A LOTTA NUTS...YOU WANT FRIES WITH THAT??" SD LMAO when "cant touch this", "baby got back" are played
The Dames Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 "THATS A LOTTA NUTS!" was SO Random....I DIED laughing! Dames

Guest Ravenbomb Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 Movie looks dumb, but with dialouge like this, I'm watching it
Guest art_vandelay Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 THERE'S A SEQUEL? WEEOOO WEEOOO WEEEOOO
Guest phoenixrising Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 I wanted to see this movie in theatres but never got the chance...one day I saw it on the movie channel and saw the last part of the movie...then waited for it to come on again to see the whole thing. Loved the movie, liked the cow piledriving him and the Matrix effect when he's dodging the milk. The narrator's pretty funny: "At that moment, I learned something about iron fists...THEY REALLY HURT MAN!!!" "YESSSSSS...The Evil Council is based in France!" ...and when he opens his mouth, the ship says "Sacre Bleu!" Will the sequel be like the preview at the end of the movie? "Oh...I see you brought your friends this time..."
LaParkaYourCar Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 If you loved the movie the DVD is a must. The DVD has alternate audio where you hear what Steve and Co. were really saying since they dubbed other lines over their own words to make their mouths be a little off from the lines. So what they really said is a bunch of nonsense that is hilarious to listen to.
Guest CED Ordonez Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 I watched it halfway and liked what I saw; The people that brought it stopped it because they thought it was dumb, and they went on to watch Super Troopers right after that. *shrugs*
The Dames Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 Oh, I just saw Super Troopers tonight...that was crap. Dames
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 Super Troopers > Kung Pow. I almost couldn't finish Kung Pow, as it was pretty much equally as stupid as his retarded Thumb movies, only it was three times as long. At least Super Troopers had "I LOVE ACID!!!!...cops." and the Meow game.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 you mean that guy makes those stupid fucking THUMB MOVIES?! Shit...now I'm torn on seeing it and not seeing it...
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 this is nothing like the Thumb movies. It's as funny as hell... my roomie described it as Kung Fu Theatre on Crack Chosen One: Who are you? Ling's Father: I'm Ling's Father- wweeeo weeeooo weeoooo Chosen One: Oh dear.
