Royal Rumble 1990: Greg Valentine vs Ron Garvin, I Quit match A very surprisingly good match which featured good psychology, a smart ending and the North American PPV debut of the sharpshooter(to my knowledge). Summerslam 1993: Lex Luger vs Yokozuna, WWF title match Consdering the millions and millions of restrictions involved this match was pretty damn good and had a very hot crowd. As for good matches that should have been crappy: 1987 Wargames. Out of Flair, Arn, Tully, Lex, and JJ vs Dusty, Koloff, Hawk, Animal, and Ellering. You got in order: Great, Good, good, ok, Crap, vs Crap, Crap, Crap, Crap, and Crap. With that much crap, you think the match would be shitty, but it is one of the best matches I have ever seen. Both are really good cruiserweight stars, but WCW put them in the opening match so I'm sure they didn't expect them to put on a match that pretty much outshined the entire PPV. To add to this list, what about Hogan-Warrior from WrestleMania VI? Granted, they rehearsed that one about 75,000 times, but who would have thought Warrior was carryable? Forget that, what about Warrior vs Savage from WM VII I mean Savage was on the downturn since losing the title and Warrior had never been that great, his champ run had bombed. cawthon777 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2003 I second Warrior / Savage at WrestleMania VII. One of the best Mania matches of all time. Others worth mentioning: Bret vs. Owen ... WrestleMania X ... Owen had hardly been able to shine prior to this match so it was basically "former world champion vs. glorified jobber" ... I figured it would be a throw-away Furnas, LaFon, & the Godwinns vs. Owen, Bulldog, & the New Rockers ... Survivor Series 96 ... any match with the Godwinns can't be that great - but the offense from Furnas & LaFon and the great selling from Owen & Bulldog not only made the match a lot of fun but created a pretty decent and underrated rivalry for the next few months I was going to add Taker vs. Kane at Mania XIV but now that I think about it ... just about any *** bout involving Kane (Austin at KOTR, Angle at Mania, etc). Now, at the time, I was a mark and couldn't really care less about Furnas/LaFon since they seemed so bland to me. I didn't give them a chance in the world and really wasn't paying much attention to the match at first. However, the match got really interesting and got me enthrawled. I figured Furnas/LaFon would walk away with the straps and I was actually cheering for them. However, they only managed a DQ win. Still, it was a TREMENDOUS match!
