Guest JMA Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Sorry if I left out your favorite. I tried to pick those with the biggest achievements. I myself will be voting for Lincoln, with Kennedy in a VERY close second.
Guest LooseCannon Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 People are gonna say that putting Kennedy and Carter on there and not George Washington is a little odd. But I don't think the choices one lists on the poll matter as much as the ensuing discussion, anyway.
Guest bob_barron Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 John F. Kennedy??? Jimmy Carter?? What kind of fucked up list is that?
Guest JMA Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 John F. Kennedy??? Why would you not like Kennedy?
Guest CanadianChris Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Greatest president isn't a popularity contest. I voted for Roosevelt, myself.
Guest bob_barron Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 John F. Kennedy??? Why would you not like Kennedy? He was only president for three years first of all. And that whole Bay of Pigs thing kinda soured my opinion on him. I just thinking leaving out George Washington and putting those two clowns is a bit weird.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I voted other. As presidents go, ya just can't beat John Adams.
Guest bravesfan Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I'm a bit shocked in the inclusion of Jefferson and Kennedy. My vote's for Roosevelt.
Guest JMA Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I'm a bit shocked in the inclusion of Jefferson and Kennedy. Why so? Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independance and helped separate church and state. Kennedy improved religious tolerance. I myself voted for Lincoln.
Guest bob_barron Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 But he didn't do that as president. Jefferson also did the Embargo Act which really hurt his presidency.
Guest redbaron51 Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Bill Clinton... and no i'm not joking
Guest JMA Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Like I said, I chose those based on the biggest contributions to society. If I didn't list your favorite, I'm sorry. But it's no big deal. Just pick "other" and explain who your choice is below.
Guest bob_barron Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Okay- I'm just pointing out flaws of Kennedy and Jefferson
Guest JMA Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 So far in the "Other" category we have one vote for John Adams and one vote for Bill Clinton.
Guest LooseCannon Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I don't want to get into an argument over the merits of Jefferson, but just about everyone would consider him one of the greatest presidents, including most historians.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 1. Abraham Lincoln 2. Andrew Jackson 3. Ronald Reagan 4. Franklin Roosevelt 5. James Polk
Guest Kingpk Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I'd put Lincoln and FDR 1+2. Kennedy had a lot of things to deal with in his short presidency: The Cuban Missile Crisis, dealing with the Soviets in general, putting into motion the events that would put man on the moon, etc. He was also the only Kennedy I don't hate with a passion (I'm from Mass, so I have to deal with Edward Kennedy shooting his mouth off between shots of vodka). Most of Carter's successes came after his presidency, I think.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 FDR, all the way. Most effective liberal president evar. I dig everything the first few presidents did too, as a general rule. Bonus points go to Taft for being so freaking fat.
The Robfather Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Not only was Carter a horrible President, even today he continues to meddle in affairs he has no business being involved. I voted for Ronald Reagan.
Guest JMA Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Not only was Carter a horrible President, even today he continues to meddle in affairs he has no business being involved. I voted for Ronald Reagan. What affairs does he have no business meddling in? And I'd gladly take Carter over Reagan or Bush. Both men I consider to be deplorable human beings.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Most of Carter's successes came after his presidency, I think. What successes? He should just stick to building houses. George Washington. I love Ronald Reagan, but G.W. created 2- 4 year terms, the cabinet, and the title Mr.President, when he could of had people call him King George. Without "Dad" the Presidency wouldn't be what it is today. James Polk is underrated. Texas, and the land that would become California were added under is presidency. Happy Birthday Ronald Regan. 92 years old....sadly he can't celebrate
Guest JMA Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Happy Birthday Ronald Regan. 92 years old....sadly he can't celebrate Carter did win the nobel peace prize. Does that not count as even a small success? And I won't be losing any sleep over the Reagan thing.
Guest Mad Dog Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 1. Washington 2. Monroe 3. Lincoln 4. Jackson - hey the guy beat the shit out of his own assassin 5. Jefferson 6. FDR 7. Polk 8. Regan 9. Teddy Rosevelt 10. John Adams - was just hampered by having Jefferson as his VP
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 "Carter did win the nobel peace prize. Does that not count as even a small success? Yes, I'm sure the country loved insane lines at the pump, an energy crisis, and general horrible times. He's a great person, and a much better ex-president than most others, but he was not a good president in any way, shape, or form.
Guest RobJohnstone Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Washington, no one is even close. 2nd choice would be Jackson. --Rob
