Blitzball

Recommended Posts

Personally, I play it every chance I get. It's like, okay there's a big boss battle comin' up...kewl...now let me play my damned blitzball. ^_^

Advice: Jumal in Luca, some time after you do the first ball game, is a GREAT goalie. Give 'im "Super Goalie" and "Grip Gloves"..and he's usually unbeatable. His name always makes me laugh, though.

Anyway, who else loves it, and who hates it?

I don't really like it all that much. I don't like being forced to play through a game with a really awful team and half-assed tutorial, so once I finish that part I never go back to do it again.

They shouldn't have made the first game such a chore. Maybe then I'd like it more.

I won blitzball on my first attempt, and never went back. Stupid, stupid little game in my eyes.

You won on your first try?

Damn... maybe I just suck at it... I have trouble getting a tie in that game...

You're not the only one who sucks at the first game, chirs3. Seriously, the team *really* sucks. Still, as you play it more, and add better players, it gets better. Besides, each opposing team usually as some unique weakness.

Sidenote: The Luca Goers are the most gay bishonen I've ever seen in a game! And, for anyone wondering, bishonen is "pretty boys"..which usually fits the description of most FF guys.

The game was terrible. In all of my time playing FF games this was the absolute worst mini-game. Oh wait Chocobo Hot and Cold in FF9 far outclasses it. And that damn play online strategy guide to......*grumble*

It was by far the worst mini-game I've ever played. It's so painfully boring. Despite this I tried to put together a good team and judging by the statistics of my players, I had the best team in the league. I would take huge leads against my opponents but suddenly they would mount a quick and miraculous comeback. I think something was wrong with my goalie. Fuck that NOISE!

EDIT: Is that better, Flyboy?

I thought this was about the Midway line of sport games with Z arcade action!!! I am a big fan of the Blitz and Hoopz games.

Actually, the first blitzball game against the Goers is really easy. Don't even attempt to score in the first half, just continuously pass, making sure Tidus passes a whole lot. When Tidus levels up in blitzball, you can equip the Jecht shot, and just waylay through. Build up a big lead, and laugh. Laugh a lot. Because somebody spilled the ether.

The first time I played, I absolutely hated it. The second time, I got the Jecht Shot, and, guess what? My opinion changed.

Just curious, does it matter if Tidus successfully does the Jecht Shot on the boat? I've missed it almost all the times I've played it, but still kicked ass in my Blitzball games.

You get Jecht Shot 2 or something if you get it on the boat...Blitzball is decent.

Heh, I lost two games in like 50+ attempts at Blitzball. The first was against the Goers and the second was an exhibition against the Guados. After that, I *owned* the fucking game and already have damn near everything needed for Wakka's ultimate weapon and Overdrives(I'm missing the Aurochs Reels).

Blitzball fucking kicks ass.

It's a kinda "luck of the draw" thing with the tourneys. Oddly enough, Status Reels and Attacks Reels came up one after the other. Only problem I had in getting either was beating the Guados because they upgraded their frontline people so much that it was pretty tough to prepare for 'em.

Here's a tip for anybody just starting out: When you're able to sign free agents, go after the Al Bhed who's piloting the airship. He's one of the fastest guys in the game and once he learns Venom and/or Wither Shot, he's friggin' unstoppable.

He's okay, but you have to *really* work on leveling him up, though. I actually signed him and he's still on my roster, too, but I never use him anymore because I found this lady from Besaid Island who's awesome when it comes to shooting and she even has Wither Shot 3 already equipped.

There's this Ronso in Luca when you're first starting out.. he's pretty good as a fielder opposite Tidus.

But you know what sucks? If you equip "Super Goalie" on your goalie..that meas the other goalie has it too!

I play it and pretty much own int. Lost first time against the Goers the first time through and lost once to the Al Behd's this time through when Nimrook (best goalie in the game BY FAR) stopped 2 point blank Jecht shots. Usually though the hardest part is keeping my defensive players levelled up since they usually don't do anything, since I stomp teams like the Ronsos or Kilika Beasts 9 or 10 to nothing.

BTW Wakka's ok with the Auroch shot (as long as you play a LOT of the original team) but do not team him with Tidus on the front line. You won't be able to tackle worth crap and won't get the ball as much.

I remember this mini-game. I was able to get quite excellent at it after I picked up a few good players. I found it fun for what it was, though I have not touched FFX in long time.

Absolute ownage: Tidus w/ Jecht Shot and the Ronso in the blitzball stadium on offense with Wedge w/Tackle Slip at midfield. I had them hideously leveled up compared to my defensemen and goalie (which was Jassu, Letty and Keepa, respectively) and they killed nearly every player that came at them. Ended up going undefeated until I decided to sell the game after beating it. It was fun seeing how much of an asskicking I could administer.

My tactics were a bit different. I just leveled up Tidus like a bastard, and a defensive guy, scored a goal or two, and played keep away the rest of the game.

Blitzball is a lot of fun for awhile, but it's way too easy. Tidus gets way too good way too fast, and once he's adequately leveled and has Sphere Shot and Jecht Shot, he can basically score at will. Plus, he has so much endurance that if he bumps into anyone, he can just dribble, walk up to the goal, Jecht Shot everyone away and score. And if any team becomes even remotely competitive, you can just sign their players when they become free agents. I ended up using Tidus, a bunch of Al-Bhed and Miyu in goal (she's really good early on), and we were winning most games 10-0. It got boring after awhile because it was too damn easy.

I enjoyed it for a bit, but it did become too easy.

If it's included in FFX-2, they need to revamp is an awful lot.
