Not sure if you guys know....

Recommended Posts

"Okay, now for the other news: As you may or may not know, 411 is doing a big reorganizational type thing on 3/3/03, and I made the decision last night not to keep the Smarks as a separate section when it happens. Myself, Jay Bower, Tim Livingston, Justin Baisden and GP Ryan will join the main site and continue posting as usual there. The rant archives will of course remain intact after the re-org. There's just no point in keeping a subsite in place when it's pretty much just me at this point. So I'll see you on 3/3/03 for 411Mania.com!"

Well, this has a bit of irony to it, in my opinion. TheSmarks.com is going to be officially dead as of March 3rd and we're still around and thriving. Funny how things work out, isn't it?

Occasionally, I wonder what SK thinks of TSM. Is it cool we built something great out of the ashes of another site, or are we just second-rate imitators? I know Justin Baisden still posts here occasionally, so we know at least one Smarks chap doesn't hate us. :D

Fuck Scott Keith. I wouldn't post here if he was still around.

The only times I see Jason post is in feedback bitching about something. but i could be wrong.

Hmm. For some reason I always liked the name Rantsylvania better than the Smarks...just a personal preference I suppose.

I've seen Justin in the Puro section a few times and he has the odd post in the TV and Videogames folders. Jay Bower also gives the site a plug once in a while in his War and Peace-length news reports.

I told you Dames, get me on the staff and TheSmarks is finished. ;)

Idolizing and bashing SK are so passe. I admit I read his stuff as a review of certain shows to see his ratings, and I 90% disagree with them. But thats me, if someone else did * ratings on their reviews I'd check it out too. Reviews that stricly cover the action without any insight bores me.

an excerpt (sp?) from SK most recent writing:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Scott Keith is the author of the best-selling debut The Buzz on Professional Wrestling (Lebhar-Friedman Books, 2000), in addition to his follow-up about the WWF, Tonight…In This Very Ring! (Citadel Press, Fall 2002) and an avid follower of wrestling since almost the day he was born. He is currently the owner of one of the largest and most respected independent websites about wrestling, TheSmarks.com. Garnering nearly 2 million pageviews per month, TheSmarks and its predecessor, Rantsylvania.com, have attracted a loyal following over the years, and made up a good portion of the online sales of Keith’s first book.

Keith also worked as a contributing freelance writer for the CBS Sportsline affiliate Wrestleline.com, doing weekly columns and recapping the WWF’s weekly RAW television show. Wrestleline was, in itself, one of the largest and most successful wrestling websites in history, doing numbers on par with those of the WWF itself, and along with longtime Internet insider Rick Scaia, Keith is regarded as one of the main reasons for that site’s longevity and success. Keith has reviewed and recapped nearly every pay-per-view in the history of wrestling and is generally regarded as the foremost expert on the sport by insiders and observers alike.

Ahhhh...no ego there!

I know that Bower actually reads stuff on the main page. As for Baisden, all I know is that he floats around the board every now and then.

Someone should send a question into SK's feedback feedbag with a cleverly placed plug. Something like... I just read Retro Rob's review of WrestleWar 1991 at TheSmartMarks.com. He only gave the main event ****1/4 and you gave it *****. Could you please back up your reasoning for calling an obviously flawed match perfect?

OR

I just came from TheSmartMarks.com and read Teke's Ted DiBiase Shoot. What are your thoughts on the Million Dollar Man?

Odds are he won't post it, but it would still be humorous.

I actually just interviewed Scott Keith for my latest column.

I asked him what he thought of The Smart Marks, and he answers.

The interview will be posted on the Main Site ASAP.

Honestly, I wonder if SK even knows we exist. He'd probably think we're beneath him though...

Dames

You could probably make the "Well, he IS fat" joke, but I dunno if that'd get over to well.

Oh wait, I just did. *slaps head*

well he says he doesn't read the site but i do find it funny that his jj dillon shoot interview recap bears a striking resemblance to brandon's format. if you read SK's earlier shoot interview rants, there wasn't much detail. this one was surprisingly truitt-esque. hmmmm

I’m familiar with a lot of the writers and they’re all good people, though.

I guess he doesn't know that *I* write for the site. ;)

He was trying to get a book deal so of course he's gonna make him look really good in his 'About the Author' part

Scott: Allowing my picture to be taken for a publicity shot in 2001 and thus erasing the air of mystery that had built up around me.

Who wants to make the fat joke this time?
