Two packs of spinach in the fridge? (Y) Two cans of chickpeas? (Y) Two small onions? (Y) Pack of paneer (Indian cheese)? (Y) Can of crushed tomatoes? (Y) Spices, pan, butter, &cet? (Y) Fire it up. My god, my saags are just fucking amazing, and I say that without hesitation. My Indian simmered spinach dishes are far, far, FAR better than they have any right to be, considering that I'm almost entirely Irish and German.

I'd like to try making it someday (I guess I can buy paneer from some stores in "Little India" in Queens on the way to/from work)

Butter and spice mixture in the bottom of the pan and sweat the chopped onions over it. Add half the spinach, wilt that a little, throw on the chickpeas, saute the paneer, add that, then the can of crushed tomato (I prefer to do it with two real tomatoes, but that's just me), and the other half of the spinach. w00t.
Chunk Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 I was cooking at a school open night (sort of like advertising the class) and we had to stay late, so we had nothing to eat. Anyway, one of the guys with me brought in some Indian take away, and offered me some Saag Aloo. Id never heard of it before, but ive been hooked on it since. I love saag. But when I buy it from the Indian it always has potato in it, which just tastes awesome. (Saag Aloo). Hmm. Not many people appreciate Indian cuisine. Good food it is, but its kinda hard to find authentic indian cuisine. Where are you from? Over here in the UK, Indian food is really popular, and Thai is becoming more popular all the time. ChUnK!
