Question about Raw

Recommended Posts

Guest the 1inch punch

Okay, I only saw Raw this morning (I'm in Ireland)

Coach was commentating, because JR was fired

Do you think Coach was been auditioned in case JR decides to call it quits (here's hoping)

I hope not, Coach has got to be one of the worst announcers in WWE , next to the Cat Miller and that 15 year old from Tough Enough 1.

At least his voice isn't as God awful as Lita's.

I don't think Coach was that bad when he was allowed to call the match. I wouldn't let him work with Lawler anytime soon though.

Don't even remind me about her, Lita needs Matt to give her some "cough drops" for that frog in her throat.

I only just Raw last night too and I enjoyed the Coach on commentary.

It was certainly a step-up from Ross, I have to say.

Although, Lawler seem to acting like a dick towards him with his constant "I miss J.R." whines.

I BLOODY DIDN'T MISS J.R.

I was glad he had gone, if only for a little while anyway.

I never used to like the guy too much but Coach made a fan in me last night (watch him blow it with Heat).

Replace Ross with Coach I say.

Coach isn't as bad as Lita, Tazz, or Miller...and on some nights JR and King.

That angle just sucked to high hell to begin with...why was Eric given his job back when it was JR that got Austin? My brain's bleeding now.

I liked Coach. He put the emphasis on the match instead of hyping Austin's return, like JR would have.

I have to agree. When given the chance, Coach is a pretty good play-by-play man. I doubt we'll ever hear him call a Fujiwara Armbar a Wakigatame anytime soon, but he can keep up with what's going on in the ring and, damn -- if it wasn't nice to hear something other than JR's backwoods euphamisms for once.

I'd still like to see how Coach would handle a JR "MAH GAWD! DAMN YOU! MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON OUR SOULS!" moment, though.

Coach was trained as a TV personality, not a commentator. How can anybody say he's better than JR? Name me one match where Coach has been able to add even one ounce of emotion or excitement. He can't sound spontaneous, ever. He's got a good voice for TV, I'll give him that.

What I like about Coach is that he sounds like one of us would sound if we were thrown out there to do commentary, or at least me. A lot of joking around and laughing and stuff.

The only reason Coach was in the booth was so J.R. could watch the Oklahoma basketball game.

He may not add as much emotion or excitment, but at least he concentrates on the fucking match. If Jim Ross was in his place this past monday we would have heard 2 hours of JR having an orgasim with "BAW GAWD STONE COLD WILL BE AT NO WAY OUT~!!!!". Coach only brought Steve Austin up once or twice in the main event, which was Jericho vs Jeff fucking Hardy.

That's your preference, I guess. I hope your friends don't sound as dorky, or say "D-d-d-d-d-d-d-dudley dog" whenever you see Spike's finisher. I tend to be more favourable towards the commentators that are capable of adding some quality to the matches.

Coach never does this? Have you seen Sunday Night Heat? Every WWE announcer does this. They're told to.

Coach is a fine commentator/on-air personality. He was a sports anchor in Kansas before joining WWE in 1999. He is more than capable of calling a match.

And he's sexy, too.

Obviously, not a wrestling match.

Anyone is better than Ross. The reason being that since as long as I've been listening to him he's been byist.

Mick Foley is his book says that Ross is the best announcer ever and has the ability to make a good match great and a great match super. The problem is that he also has the ability to make a great match good and a good match bad simply because he doesn't put any effort in a lot of his announcing. When he's in this zone he's the most boring announcer alive and takes down the quality of a match. I'll never forget how Benoit and Jericho were "boring" and then suddenly when they made it into the main event of a Raw show against Hunter and Austin their moves "were suddenly exciting". Basically, Jim Ross is part of the glass cieling. When the fans watch Raw and see who's boring and exciting, at least some of them are going to react accordingly when they go to the wrestling shows. This makes it more difficult for wrestlers to break out of the pack. Therefore, in conclusion, absolutely anyone is better than Ross.

Ross used to be a great announcer. I'll give him that much. His problem is he only cares about the main event caliber wrestlers. That means we get 2 hours of him calling Triple H the "Best in the business" or Steve Austin "the rattlesnake". He should focus more on the matches that are in the ring (I can understand hyping the main event, but it shouldn't be done at the expense of the match in the ring).

I think the Coach did well on the announcing booth, and it was a nice change. JR is the better commentator, but the problem is that his character is rather stale and cliche at this point. At one point JR damning the heel's soul to hell added to the moment so well, but now when he does it, it fails to have that same effect, at least in my opinion. This seems to be due to overuse and just generally bad writing.

I think JR would be fine if he could change up his character a bit like he did during his stint with Paul Heyman, but if he continues to be "Good Ol' JR" then I think he will be nothing more than another bad part of an already bad show.

I hated Coach's commentating with Dlo. Their commentary was funny, distracting and annoying all at the same time. I think he has the tools to call a wrestling match but needs a good color man to play off of.

I am really convinced that Ross is Contemplating steping down from the booth by A few Months (Perhaps announcing quietly during Mania that it's his last time calling a Wrestling Event and King calmly saying "We'll miss you J.R" just before the intros for the Main Event start.

I think Shawn or Triple H should have given Bischoff the old Sgt. Slaughter spit guards.

I didn't mind Coach. At first it was pretty strange, but it grew on me. I don't watch HeAt very often, hardly at all since I'm rarely home on Sunday evening, so I can't really comment on that. But it was okay for RAW.

And I LIKE Josh Matthews commentary. I think the kid does okay.
